    I'm fine with the Derek Falvey never letting us know what he's thinking, that's how it should be. If we know, the other GMs know. Just like when my kids only half over-hear a dirty joke dad tells. Sorry, no I'm not going to repeat myself and I don't care if your curiosity is nagging at you son.

    But do you think Darnold can carry a team to the Super Bowl? Because that's what every GM who has to pay a QB 40M+ is asking himself. I don't think he can, and based on the league-wide narrative after he choked in the two biggest games of the season, very few others think he can. I have serious doubts that there is any team that would both pay Darnold 40M+ AND trade draft picks. Maybe if it was only one or the other, but not both. Due to his poor drafting, I'm ready to move on from KAM, but I'm in the complete opposite boat than you on this topic. I think if he IS able to pull of a trade, it will be the slickest move any GM pulls on another GM all off season. Any GM who pays big money and gives picks for Darnold is either desperate or a sucker, and probably both. If I was a fan of the team doing this, I would be furious.

    Going with Darnold seems like doing the original Cousins deal in 2018 but with much higher chance that Darnold will implode. If things go OK, Darnold also takes you out of a top 5 pick next year. It also probably takes you out of a deep playoff run. And he's getting a longer deal, which means a longer period of not top 5 picks and not deep playoff runs.

    I'm not sure tagging Darnold would hurt their 'good guy' standing. I mean, if they trade him, he'll be gone and the rest of the players surely would prefer to have the better draft capital to try to build a better team. I think it comes down to what we've all been worried about since the playoff game. Will they get stuck with Darnold if they tag him? I still think that's a significant possibility. While he's probably the consensus top QB available, I don't think he's the unanimous top QB available. He indisputably has the most upside, but Rodgers, Cousins and Wilson probably have a much safer floor. And most of the teams looking for a QB, are probably looking for a bridge QB; as a Vikings fan, I wouldn't want ANY of these guys long term. The safer, cheaper, older QBs may be more attractive to the teams that actually need a QB for just a year or two but still want to see if they can squeak into the playoffs. Put ourselves in the shoes of a Raiders or Giants fan. As a team that's not close to a championship, do I want to give Darnold 40M for three or four years? Or give Rodgers/Cousins/Wilson 20M for a year or two. I'd go for the second option in a heartbeat. Because while Darnold has the higher ceiling, it's not high enough to make you a legit contender.

    Honestly, if there is one disconnect between the front office and the manager, I suspect it's this. Some of these guys do move fast, but the manager doesn't seem to want to use them or put them on the roster. I mean, I get it. I would rather work with mature adults than a bunch of 21-year-olds using words like 'sus' and 'bussin' and having conversations I can't follow, but this is pro sports, not a bank. This job requires the best physical talent, not best inter-personal communication skills. Deal with it Baldelli.

    I'll be disappointed, but I'll wait to see what Darnold actually gets on the free agent market. If he gets less than anticipated, then we might have to give KAM a pass (not that I want to). However, I am concerned about how the league is letting Brady and the Raiders tamper with no repercussions. The official story is that Brady and Stafford just happened to bump into each other in Montana? Come on. This league is seriously worse than the mob. I could see Brady telling Darnold's agent to angle for free agency and they'll guarantee paying him 40M or whatever. Atlanta tampered last year and the NFL didn't give one rotten crap about it. If it happened to the Cowboys though, watch out, there would be hell to pay.

    Even though the Vikings need one, it would be cool to see RBs get the respect and paychecks they've been shorted for most of the last decade. Anyone who thinks they are plug-n-play didn't watch Dallas, NYG or KC last year.

    The Twins clearly have been wavering on this theory for over half a decade. Bomba Squad succeeded in 2019 = strikeouts are fine. Bomba Squad failed in 2020 = strikeouts are bad. And their draft classes reflected this shift. Then, we have a shortage of power in 2022 so let's sign some boppers again in 2023 = oof, Gallo, Taylor, Wallner and Julian are just too much for one roster, let's over-correct in 2024. But yikes, these guys don't strike out but ALSO don't generate runs? I mean, I agree with the article, but offensively, it's all a balancing game. You aren't going to win the World Series with nine Jim Thomes, but you also aren't going to win the World Series with nine Luis Arraez's either. But I guess when in doubt, go for the Thomes.

    Yeah, I was being sarcastic. It's a preseason game. Anyone reading too much into one of these in February is only looking for a reason to complain.

    Almost like deciding Dan Gladden should lead off because he leads the team in laundry bills and hustle despite a .310 OBP was more of a 'gut' feeling than a smart decision.

    I'd like the idea of Wallner leading of if the bottom of the Twins lineup didn't project to be so terrible. Vazquez and Bader are awful at getting on base and France's OBP fell off a cliff last year. Though they are veterans. I suppose it's possible Baldelli bats them in the top half of the lineup and pushes Lewis, Larnach and Miranda down.

    I know it's a scary position, but KAW has been fantastic finding affordable and decent CBs both early in the off season and late. Or maybe it's not him, maybe it's Flores and his system. I definitely want this addressed in free agency and not the draft, but I'm not going to sweat it if they don't get someone exciting. The unexciting guys have been working out pretty well all things considered.

    If that's the best answer, I stand by my assessment. My post was mostly tongue in cheek, but I seriously can't find any successful staring pitchers from the Big 10 in 35 years. This seems like an overlooked piece of notoriety.

    Yeah, but the Twins drafted Povich and Hajjar back to back in the same draft! As if they didn't learn from Tyler Jay, Alex Wimmers and Aaron Slegers. I mean Glen Perkins was good, but not as a starter. I seriously don't think there has been a decent starting pitcher drafted from the Big 10 since Jim Abbot. I'm sure somebody can find another good starting pitcher from that conference to prove my Abbot theory wrong, but I'm also sure nobody will be able find enough to justify ever drafting these guys in the top 10 rounds. Just don't do it, it's a trap!

I wanted Chris Kuper replaced as I think that OL isn't just ineffective up the middle running the ball, but absolutely lost when they get out in space for screen and swing passes. The language O'Connell used about the new guy makes me think he also knows the current OL coach perhaps was lacking: “I want to get stronger overall,” O’Connell said. “I love what Chris Kuper’s been able to do in that room, but I wanted to take the opportunity to get a former [head position coach] that’s been involved in some of the best rushing attacks over the past four, five, six years in football. I think he’s at a great time in his career where he really wanted to come to Minnesota, and I really think he’s going to be able to help us a lot, infuse some things into our run game.” I think the 'but' says it all. And it sounds like the 'assistant' might be more title than a function. The new guy sounds like he has more experience and success than existing guy.

    I picked Polanco, but it might be Jones. But it would be Jones in a spring game in 2010 when he briefly rejoined the organization but never made the big league club. That photo was definitely more recent than when we were accustomed to Jacque playing. And the spectator in the Panama hat says that's Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, not Camden Yards in Baltimore.

    I'm going to need 'Star' defined. There might be a dozen players in the history of the game who were 'stars' based on their defense alone. And most of them played shortstop. Not saying he can't be a useful player, just sounds a bit like hyperbole from the manager.

    I don't disagree. The lack of offense is why I was so disappointed in Bader and France. Castro may be at the low end of the spectrum of what I want in the batting order, but at least he's in the spectrum.
