  1. I think you probably need to link some evidence of Mike using We vs. They if you're going to throw around those kinds of accusations. I wanted Gausman (or Appel), and I didn't think the decision should have even been close. But I'll admit I was wrong and am now happy with the Buxton choice. Still wish the Twins had an arm like Gausman ready to contribute though. Comparing Gausman/Buxton to Bowie/Jordan is a pretty dramatic leap however. It's not like Buxton and Gausman were ever really that far apart on the prospect scale, they were pretty evenly matched. It was more like the Josh Beckett/Josh Hamilton debate though on a lesser scale, those two were bigger names at the time.
  2. This report is breaking way too early for me to feel comfortable with it. Think about the backlash the Twins would be taking right now from the local media and educated fans if they were in the Astros position and were thinking about picking Moran. More reports like this could create a wave of negative public opinion that convinces the Astros to take the BPA.
  3. Just like with Gardenhire, I don't want Anderson to get the axe just so Ryan can defelct some of the blame, nearly all of which should be on his shoulders. Though, like Gardenhire and Ryan, I'm not so sure the modern game hasn't passed Anderson by. These guys all seem to prefer 1980's baseball which no longer exists. On a totally unrelated note not at all related to this situation even in a little bit, has anyone noticed Liriano's start with Pittsburgh? His 1st two outings he didn't make it out of the 6th but was pretty dominant. He went seven and was dominant again yesterday. I wonder what got into him, he was always a slow starter in MN?
  4. That's the part I would have highlighted. I don't think there could be a phrase that better defines the Twins rediculous pitching philosophy. I realize that is not likely a direct quote but I swear I've heard both Ryan and Gardenhire utter that phrase a dozen times each. Are some pitchers afraid to throw strikes? Did Liriano not throw strikes because he was afraid? Or was it because he did not possess the ability to do so consistantly. The Twins actually think this is the recipie for success? The guy doesn't have the stuff to miss bats, but at least the batters will be well aware that his pitches will be in the strike zone. Well done. This line of thinking is so conceded it my blood boils. He's not afraid to throw strikes, even as a soft-tosser. Wow bold statement. Is the implication that most soft tossers don't throw strikes? I'd like to know who that guy is because I don't know how that formula could translate to any sort of success.
  5. You really want to throw that meatball out there?
  6. They pulled a similar stunt with Parmelee last year. It was suspected if the Twins called up Parmelee, his best bet to get playing time would be in the outfield yet he never played any at Rochester. Either the front office doesn't have much foresight or Gene Glynn is telling them to screw off and stop messing with his team. I doubt Glynn would still be employed if the later was the case.
  7. Yup, Ryan still hasn't learned his lesson. Go big or go home in free agency. Use all of you money on one or two quality players. If you nickle and dime a half dozen guys all you end up doing is paying players free agent prices when you could get the same results from the below average talent in AAA.
  8. Hard to complain about the move. He has an option so I understand the decision but I wonder if yesterdays rain delay helped Pelfrey avoid an 8-0 deficit after three and spared him from being exposed to waivers. The Rochester rotation is far from exciting outside of Gibson, still, it would at least make things exciting for about two weeks if they just swapped them all out.
  9. He never did to me considering the other options. He got demoted for poor performance. He currently has the 2nd best ERA and WHIP of the six starters the Twins have used this year and after another start or two Correia will pass him in both catagories making Hendriks #1.
  10. Don't do it Mike, you have a lot to live for. It upsets me too but the Twins will be good again. Someday.
  11. So the small sample size arguement only applies to people countering your point? He is a strikeout pitcher, his minor league numbers show that. Unlike the the other starters, he can miss bats, so if he can start getting the 3-2 pitch over the plate his K% will go up. The other Twins arms don't have the ability to miss bats, and there generally isn't a solution for that. In other words, Deduno can improve on his K%, the othes cannot. Besides, I'd take a walk over a hit any day. Runners don't advance as far.
  12. Though usually when those two words are used in the same space, the rewards reaped are soley for the person being cheap and wise.
  13. Well why did it take him so long? We need to settle for the last GM that recognizes the value in a strikeout?
  14. Ha, yeah, normally it takes the Twins at least 7 days to make these decisions. Can't wait for Colabello. You never know, perhaps they found the next Michael Morse.
  15. If I liked more than four players it would be a good stratagy, however this class looks sketchy outside of the top three or four. Any GM who happens to agree would then be passing up superior talent just to get a steal in the second round. The Twins have a ton of prospects as it is. They need to go for quality not quantity now though judging from Ryan's free agency stratagy I don't think he agrees.
  16. Duensing's pitchouts looked like they had more life than anything Pelfrey has thrown this season.
  17. The Braves suddenly need lefty relievers, is Duensing auditioning?
  18. Not a bad pitch. Wish the Twins could hit that one over the fence. On second viewing it had more of the plate than I first thought.
  19. Hey wait a sec, why isn't Willingham up?
  20. I hate the move to pinch run for Willingham. If the pen gets the job done it's moot but the odds that Dozier's extra spped scores a run are less than the odds Willingham would bat again.
  21. But terrible moves like pinch running Dozier for Willingham in the eighth is a good reason to can Gardy now. The odds that the game will go extra innings and Willingham will bat again is higher than the odds that the difference between Dozier's speed and Willingham's speed will result in an immediate run. There are very few situations where Dozier could score when Willingham could not.
  22. I've started watching the new TMNT with my three year old. My wife says it is too old for him, but damn, I'm just so tired of Dora.
  23. Why would you compare baseball with basketball? Perhaps you could look at last year and notice the improvement by the Orioles, White Sox and A's who all had the same suspect talent but unexpectedly competed due to managerial changes. Still I've said it before, I don't want to see Gardy fired unless Ryan is canned first. Gardy's in game management has been poor and he keeps throwing the young guys under the bus for petty mistakes, but this is Ryan's mess and I don't want to see him try to lay the blame on someone else. The game has passed him by and he does not seem comfortable with the current economic boon and contract trends that the other clubs are utilizing to stay competitive.
  24. True, but if Stewart was going to cost the full slot or over slot anyway, the bonus pool wouldn't have done any good to help throw around to HS kids drafted in later rounds.
  25. I was going to accuse this guy of being an obvious Twins fan but it looks like most of his contributions on SB Nation involve the Yankees. So it's legitimate. Legitimately insane.
