  1. I find it amusing that all these "leaks" occur shotgun style the day of the draft. Seems to me this would be the day of the most deception.
  2. Of course if Appel fell that means another team above the Twins were going to underslot route. That team would still be picking before the Twins at #43 and would be able to snag Manaea or whoever you are hopeing for at that point. I don't think the Twins are going to pass up the BPA due to signability. Stewart and Appel won't be nearly as hard to sign once the deadline approaches.
  3. I'm not too excited about DeVries but I can think of a couple other guys I'd DFA first. Triples instead of HR Buxton? Come on man, what a let down.
  4. The Saints? Then what, go back into the draft again next year? The Astros are going to have the 1st pick for the 3rd year in a row what will change? Appel will be a top four pick and make more than the Pirates offered last year and Boras and Appel will get to have their petty victory and crow about how smart they are even if they are secretly disappointed he didn't go #1.
  5. I was thinking about that this morning, if the Twins were going to go underslot, which they shouldn't, why would they go all the way down to get McGuire? Why not go for Ball, Shipley or Stankek? Or if they wanted to go farther down the list Bickford or Clarkin?
  6. Agree and I'm a guy who's always screaming for a pitcher, even admittedly last year when I preferred Appel and Gausman to Buxton. But Bryant just looks special as does Appel and Gray. Stewart looks special too and I'd be thrilled to have him, but he just doesn't seem like the sure thing the other three do.
  7. In Hicks' last seven games he hast hit .500 with 7 extra-base hits including a 2 HR game Saturday. His K/BB ratio is a nice 1:1 as well, in fact Tuesday's 3K game was his first multi K game since April 23. Also a congratulations to Hicks on being named to the Midwest League All-Star team. Promotions are likely coming after the All-Star break and once the draft picks start signing. Many people will be looking for Hicks' more heralded teamates to be on the move but with the lack of 1B prospects in the system, Hicks may be on the move as well, particularly if Kennys Vargas moves on to AA.
  8. I agree. I think expectations were high for Moses and Span after picking in the top 10 seven of the previous 8 years. Moses probably should be in the same bust camp as Carlos Gutierrez and Kyle Waldrop considering their draft positions. Willie was a tough pick, I'm all for drafting HS arms but it's hard to argue Banks backfired. There was a ton of talent in that 1987 draft. No one has mentioned the Twins drafted Tim Belcher 1st overall in 1983. He was a damn good pitcher. Too bad he did sign with the Twins and there wasn't any sort of compensation back in those days. Edit: Ha, I never knew this but looking at the draft history, the Twins also drafted Billy Swift with the 1st pick of the 2nd round in 1983. He also was a pretty solid pitcher. But did not sign. What a bad year. Looking back, the Twins actually were quite awful drafting in the 1st round until recently. Chuck Knoblauch was the first 1st round pick that signed and played for the Twins to put up more than a 5.5 WAR for his career.
  9. There are plenty of painfully awkward analysts and color men. Surely most of you have had to listen to the White Sox Dyslexic Duo in the old days when the Twins were playing the White Sox but there was no regional coverage but the game was still on WGN. Dick and Bert are pretty well respected in the industry Blyleven in particular regularly gets tabbed to be the color guy on Fox broadcasts of the Twins games. They start to wear on me once in awhile also but that's due to repitition and reluctance to say anything negative about the team all while I'm internally cursing the product Terry Ryan gave us to watch. It's hard to fault them for that however, no team is going to hire scathing satirists to demean the brand. Realistically I don't think we could expect a whole lot better. Besides, the team doesn't care if you like them or not, if you're on this site you're probably already a die hard fan and give the Twins your attention regardless of TV personalities. The team cares if your mother and other casual fans watch, and your mother likes Dick. Bert too.
  10. I just read this. Not a ton of information but it's Buxton related. Good stuff. I did like to read about his approach at the plate and his view of what pitchers are doing to him. Surely some of his knowledge comes from discussions from his coaches but it's good to hear he clearly understands both his stratagy at the plate and the stratagy of the pitcher facing him. Sometimes it seems like a simple concept but I don't know that all young guys grasp some of the minutia.
  11. It probably depends on if they receive ribbons or trophies for winning. I'd jump ship early if it's just a ribbon.
  12. I agree and most of the complaints about them are accusing those two of being too homerish. The Twins are selling a product and trying to build a positive atmosphere. It may be quite obvisous propoganda, but they aren't going to hire Lenny Bruce to rip on the team. That being said I also enjoy when TK or Smalley get a chance at the mike. Though if either of them were on 162 times we would likely start to hear the same old Twins back-patting schtick quite soon.
  13. The first drop down menu on top of this site has some decent fan pages. Though I don't know that any are as organized or informative as this site. I typed in "Joe Benson" into the search field on the Rangers site and no results popluated. If the Twins would have picked up a similarly previously hyped prospect from another team there would have been many results on this site I'm sure. The Rangers site seems to have one thread for the draft and it has 23 replies.
  14. The Twins are loaded with tons of quality middle infielders as it is.
  15. So, promotions after this game is finally over? Duffy got a bump early, does that mean one of the bigger name prospects could get an early bump if Ft. Myers has a need? I'm skeptical. So after the draft picks start getting signed and after this game, who are the first promoted? All of these guys could make a case.
  16. A lot of people are picking Windle, I assume it's because he's a hometown boy? A lot of us have been critical of the Twins drafting low ceiling pitchers in the past, me included but that seems to have changed in the last couple years, particularly in the compensation and 2nd rounds. I don't think Windle is the choice due to this recent trend. I think they would go after someone with more electric stuff even if they are less polished.
  17. I'm not dissing anyone's prognosticating but I'd be pretty upset with that combo actually. I'd much rather have one of the top 4 players than McGuire. I don't think Manaea will be there at 43 either and his performance this year doesn't get me nearly as excited as the top three pitchers.
  18. Well on Baseball Reference, Braun's agents are actually listed as: Agents: CAA Sports (Nez Balelo), previously: Paragon/Joe Longo Trevor Plouffe's agents are listed as: Agents: CAA Sports (Nez Balelo), previously: Joe Longo / Paragon Obvioulsy that doesn't prove or even imply anything, but if we are assuming the agents are involved, well Braun and Plouffe have had the same track record with the same two agencies. They are old pals too. Likely unrelated rambling thought: I'd imagine if Gardenhire was aware of any of his players possibly getting suspended over this, they'd be in his doghouse and probably would have been for some time. Of course one could get into Gardy's doghouse with poor defense and chasing bad pitches too.
  19. Yeah, Panik was a SS drafted one spot ahead of Levi Michael in the 2011 draft and a lot of Twins fans were dissapointed. Had they both been available I guess we'll never know which one the Twins would have taken.
  20. Well the first sentance had me encouraged as they say they will take the BPA. After that it almost seems like the implication is that they don't feel a pitcher will be the BPA at pick #4. I hope he is saying this with the anticipation that the Twins will have the choice between Bryant and Stewart because if he is not giving this quote with Bryant in the back of his mind, I'd be pretty disappointed. They couldn't seriously say with a straight face that they think McGuire is the 4th BPA. Would they be thinking Frazier or Meadows? I hope this is a smoke screen or just a poorly spoken response.
  21. It's starting to look like your schtick is finding Mike's comments simply to make snarky comments about them. You're posts are starting to get pretty personal.
  22. Using that logic, I assume you consider every move by the Twins smart?
  23. Athletes = Thrill Seekeres = Addicts? How about the more likely: Professional athletes = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ = cheating
