1. No ones here. Who would notice. I won't rat. Probably.
2. I'm always screaming for pitchers but Bryant looks like he could easily become an elite player. I'd probably be upset if he went over Gray and Appel, but not over Stewart.
3. Only when John's in the station, then they humor him and pretend they understand what he's talking about. Oh and Barreiro will rip on the Twins daily, which actually annoys me even though I do it often enough. Barreiro only does it with the intention to piss people off. Pointless ranting is his schtick.
4. I agree, we have many more tools for evaluation and much more knowledge about what works and what doesn't. The scare with HS pitchers was largely the unknown. Not all, but some of the unknown is now available knowledge due to a better understanding of specific concerns and principles.
5. I would love to see that. Temporarily of course.
6. BS, he'd take the hot college intern unless she was demanding an over slot bonus.
7. Interesting, so if the Twins can't get the best player available they would be best off if they picked the 7th best player available.
8. And remember Wimmers was somehow pegged to the Twins at #21 by everyone. It was about as unanimous as who the Twins will take at #4 this year. I always assumed the most "MLB ready" arm in the draft fell to the Twins because every other team valued high ceilings in the 1st round while the Twins valued high floors. What if other teams passed on the "MLB ready" arm because they instead noticed something in the medical reports?
9. I doubt they'd even have to ask. I'm sure the small revenue clubs would line up to toss a 20th rounder at him to make sure the draft doesn't become the farce it used to be. I wonder if the idea that Appel will be a hard sign is getting blown out of proportion. Last year there was the notion that he would be difficult and he did have leverage, but what if it was a lot of huffing and puffing? Pre draft, sure Boras and his client are going to demand top dollar, but what if they actually would have signed for slot value in 2012 or perhaps just a shade more? We will never know because the Astros had no intention of paying slot, their stratagy appeared to be to go under.
10. My board is 1) Gray, 2) Appel, 3) Bryant, 4) Stewart I now think it plays out, 1) Bryant, 2) Gray, 3) Stewart, 4) Appel. I just can't figure why the Rockies are so tied to bats when they are likely the most pitching needy team in the league and stud pitchers are available. If it's signability related, Stewart is probably the guy.
11. Regardless of what a few people think in this day and age, stubborness is rarely a positive attribute. Adapt or die. I just wish the Twins be first to adapt, it's the slowest of the heard that gets taken down by the lion.
12. He was my Adopt-a-Prospect last year. I didn't have many positive things to say and I'm very surprised he is doing so well. He's finally looking at a AA promotion. He'll need to be added to the 40-man next year though.
13. Sick of getting burned, Twins focused more on pre-draft medical info | 1500 ESPN Twin Cities ? Minnesota Sports News & Opinion (Twins, Vikings, Wolves, Wild, Gophers) | Sportswire: Minnesota Twins I didn't see this anywhere. The Twins finally started to do extensive medical evaluations with prospective pitchers. I guess it only took Bashore, Gibson and Wimmers to blow out their elbows for them to get on board. I'm glad they are finally doing what the rest of the league has been doing awhile, but why does my favorite team always seem to have to be at the back end of any new baseball philosophy? Edit: I should have noted that this is a Phil Mackey piece.
14. Speak for your self, some of us think, others of us KNOW.
15. The Twins used to pick HS pitchers with their 1st pick often in the 80's and early 90's. Serafini, Todd Ritchie, Willie Banks, Derek Perks and Jeff Bumgarner all between 1985 and 1992. Were they basically busts? Yes but so was just about every other Twins 1st round draft pick. In fact Todd Ritchie's career 6.3 WAR (I know, I know WAR sucks) is the 9th highest career WAR for any Twins 1st round draftee who ever actually put on a Twins uniform.
16. I'm no IT guy but my work computer is suddenly throwing up a bunch of red flags on this site. Did Dave's new internet "girlfriend" dump a bunch of viruses in here?
17. Good stuff. I noticed one of my pet peeves in the post above though:
12:53 Mike Newman: The stuff is there for him to be a 2/3 starter, but command/control is always the question. It’s great to dream on pure stuff, but he still needs to refine some. One can’t say a pitcher will dominate until this happens.
Meyer will almost surely not be a #3. This is irritating and I wish these "evaluators" would stop grading pitchers this way. Meyer's three likely scenarios are as follows in no particular order. #1/2 starter. Back-end bullpen. Total bust. #3 pitchers don't generally have high strikeout potential. This is lazy evaluation and I wish it would end.

19. Good stuff. 20. I find it amusing that all these "leaks" occur shotgun style the day of the draft. Seems to me this would be the day of the most deception.
21. Of course if Appel fell that means another team above the Twins were going to underslot route. That team would still be picking before the Twins at #43 and would be able to snag Manaea or whoever you are hopeing for at that point. I don't think the Twins are going to pass up the BPA due to signability. Stewart and Appel won't be nearly as hard to sign once the deadline approaches.
22. I'm not too excited about DeVries but I can think of a couple other guys I'd DFA first. Triples instead of HR Buxton? Come on man, what a let down.
23. The Saints? Then what, go back into the draft again next year? The Astros are going to have the 1st pick for the 3rd year in a row what will change? Appel will be a top four pick and make more than the Pirates offered last year and Boras and Appel will get to have their petty victory and crow about how smart they are even if they are secretly disappointed he didn't go #1.
24. I was thinking about that this morning, if the Twins were going to go underslot, which they shouldn't, why would they go all the way down to get McGuire? Why not go for Ball, Shipley or Stankek? Or if they wanted to go farther down the list Bickford or Clarkin?
25. Agree and I'm a guy who's always screaming for a pitcher, even admittedly last year when I preferred Appel and Gausman to Buxton. But Bryant just looks special as does Appel and Gray. Stewart looks special too and I'd be thrilled to have him, but he just doesn't seem like the sure thing the other three do.
