  1. I appologize for the derogatory label, I actually wasn't speaking specifically to you, I was addressing everyone on the board who appeared to believe Gibson should not be in the rotation currently.
  2. No, obviously the issue is that the 70 innings may change how he pitches in 2014. Then how he pitches in 2014 may change how he pitches in 2015. As it stands now, he likely doesn't have 70 innings left. Your arguement in defense of Terry Ryan seems to soley be, "It doesn't matter." If it doesn't matter then why not call him up? We have yet to hear from a front office defender a legitimetly negative consequence that would actually befall Gibson due to a call up.
  3. Unless one was to think 2012 was the exception not the rule for him.
  4. So make him wait another year before he gets regular experience at the big league level? Are we seriously waiting becuase we want him to be ready to win the Cy Young the second he gets called up?
  5. Can AP play CF? He's pretty quick.
  6. The consistancy line is total BS. Why are Hicks, Arcia and Parmelee allowed at the MLB level when thay have still have rough edges? Though to be fair I'm not too sure Ryan knows what OPS is let alone OPS against. If he did know and saw what the Twins current starters were posting he'd probably retire.
  7. Good. Let's get these guys in uniform. Looks like Appel, Gray and Frazier have all signed for underslot.
  8. I didn't complain about last year's stratagy, I thought it was a cleaver approach.
  9. It might sound strange, but Doumit's trade value may be at an all-time high simply because I don't think he's ever had a stretch of prolonged health as he has had since he came to Minnesota.
  10. Hicks went 2-5 with his 10th HR and picked up two more RBI. He leads the league with 56. Unfortunately he also struck out two times, something he has done in four of his last five games. He's still outperforming his 2012 drat position and looking good for a promotion to Ft. Myers in the near future.
  11. I'd be OK with moving Plouffe to 2B, but for a different reason. As has been said, Sano and Rosario will hopefully be manning 3B and 2B in the near future pushing Plouffe to the bench. He'd be a much more useful bench/utility player if we could count on him being 2B capable as well.
  12. I appreciate that you are willing to call out Ryan if he fails to perform as expected but next year's free agent pitching class looks pretty sketchy. There are some big names but they all seem to have fallen off a cliff production-wise.
  13. Anyone want to elucidate? Did he say something that hasn't been said a million times on this site? I disagree with the last line as I don't think the talent level in the minors has ever been stronger, and as much as I criticize Gardenhire I don't think he loses that many games a year but I don't think most of his statements are without a reasonable debate.
  14. They are behind the curve at this point because they started the rebuild a year and a half later than they should have.
  15. I didn't mean to imply his (possible?) above average velocity wasn't a welcome addition. All I meant was seeing as the Twins didn't seem to go velocity hunting in this draft, it shouldn't be surprising that the 6'10" guy was among the harder throwers.
  16. Ha, I was going to say the opposite. Makes me a little nervous rating Twins prospects so high nationally.
  17. However Gibson is on pace to be past his innings limit by the trade deadline. He'll likely only have 2 or 3 starts left in him once the MLB All-Star game occurs. He's already at 80 innings. They could sit him now at Rochester but then their whole speil about consistancy would kind of look foolish.
  18. In which case the Twins will receive a lesser prospect and the already under-budget front office personnel involved in the decision should be relieved of their duties. Make a trade that is favorable to the Twins or else keep him and give him a qualifying offer. Who cares if on the off chance he accepts the one-year-deal. An under-budget team can overpay for one of their former heroes, he still looks to be an upgrade to Chris Parmelee or any other internal options at this point. The money likely won't be spent elsewhere. Not that I disagree with Kwak's take. It is likely the Twins most favored position. It just shouldn't be.
  19. I would think a Coen Brothers movie. I'd buy a ticket anyway.
  20. I heard Slegers threw in the mid 90's. Not overly impressive considering his stature but still more impressive velocity-wise then most of the other possible starters the Twins picked. After reading some of the scouting reports on the gambles other teams took in rounds 2+ I'm a little disappointed the Twins seemingly went away from last year's stratagy of picking guys with plus velocity. Picking pitchers with "pitchability is what left the cupboards bare for so long. Hard to complain about the first pick though.
  21. Not to mention that Perkins just so happens to have the high profile, high paying job in the bullpen. He gets to be the closer under the traditional system. There are times to stray from the traditional role of the bullpen, but I would bet the two theories wouldn't stray as often as we think. For instance, there's a good chance Jared Burton pitches the 8th inning last night under either scenario. He would have blown the lead either way. The high leverage situations tend to be toward the end of the game anyway.
  22. I don't know, the article lost me at: "Mildren's fastball typically sits between 88-91 mph" Doesn't exactly scream large bonus seeing as he's a college arm.
  23. It was one. I said many, but it was unintentional hyperbole. I was referring to all the thought that Berrios should be ranked ahead of Stewart. Berrios is such an odd case. When drafted, most people were not familiar with him and in fact had a different choice for the 32nd pick with Mitch Brown, Lance McCullers, Matt Smoral and Joey Gallo getting requests from what I can recall of that night. Even though everyone seemed to have lost out on their horse, Berrios somehow instantly became a favorite, I think in part because of his tearful draft day video and the videos of his workouts. Interestingly, Luke Bard, the following Twins pick, who more people were familiar with, seemed to be a largely unpoplar pick. For fans of drafts, it is very rare that the unknown is embraced while the known is not. Anyway, I'm getting at the fact that Berrios became a favorite on this site even before he threw a professional pitch. Stewart doesn't seem to be driving the same excitment despite being taken 28 picks higher the following draft.
  24. So people seem fine with Buxton at #1, Berrios is many people's top pitcher and no one has complaints about Polanco or Harrison and Kepler has been thrown into the mix. However Stewart is a big question mark? Buxton, Berrios, Polanco and Harrison are still all low A and Kepler has yet to play there. Stewart was picked about 30 spots ahead of Berrios, I think people are underrating where he belongs.
  25. Especially since his main competition is Duensing who is starting to make a habit of allowing inherited runners to score again.
