  1. I think he'd break it, but to be fair, there have probably been a bunch of guys in Sano's position. Anyone on pace to break that record probably was in line for a promotion.
  2. Well he's limited to 1B/DH so that limits his potential. He strikes out a lot but maybe not as much as expected. Guys like him generally don't make it but if he puts up strong HR numbers he'll likely get a very long audition. He's hitting well now but a lot of guys do in this league. We likely won't have a good feel for if he'll make it to the big leagues until we see if he can keep hitting at the next two levels.
  3. Looks like the Red Sox took a shot at Boldt in round 15.
  4. Only 4 HS players taken by the Twins in 26 rounds so far. Can't say I'm not a little disappointed. I would have liked to see them take a few more long shots at this point considering how many of these guys at this point the Twins will actually put in a uniform.
  5. Stewart will probably eat up more of the pool than a few other 1st rounders but the Twins have taken a lot of college guys. They might have some money to offer today.
  6. Good chance they move here soon. It's been discussed here a ton. Likey after the league's All-Star game and the new draft picks start signing.
  7. Yeah I'm sure here wll be a few gambles. Not signing these guys won't count against the draft pool. I'm sure there are some HS kids available who appear to be tough signs but in fact never intended to go to college. No surprise, I see last year only three HS players were selected in the 10th round. That number jumped to 12 in round 11. Similarly only four HS players were taken this year in the 10th round. I'd assume more gambles on HS players will start right away today.
  8. Baxendale went in the 10th last year. But without a 3rd pitch, yes he's almost certainly a reliever.
  9. So the Angels and Blue Jays have only taken pitchers, I know the Tigers have taken 7 pitchers in 8 picks. Pitchers are flying off the board everywhere. What is the causation that I'm missing? Did a bunch of teams do a study that found it was best to take pitchers early and position players late? Are all the pitchers just that much more appealing? Is there a new approach to load up on pitchers to see what sticks? Are they loading up hoping quantity will overcome the inevitable injury bug that will surely bite a large percentage of these young men? Something seems unusual about this high volume of pitchers in the first 8 rounds. Anyone have a better take?
  10. That's not something this organization does well. Generally the guys in the system who have power, brought it with them and in some cases had to fend off challenges to keep it. He will probably have a difficult time adjusting to downtown Minneapolis prices then. It might be for the best if he stays in the Midwest League.
  11. 3B Dustin DeMuth. Another Hoosier, I'm guessing their scouts like to stick around Big 10 country? Sounds like he doesn't have much power potential.
  12. Well "teeth-gnashing" may be hard to define but I'll go under. Robertson didn't excite people with raw talent like Benson did. There was still a lingering memory of Benson being a top 3 organizational prospect. No such distinction for Robertson though I do have to say I was pretty happy for the guy when he finally got promoted last year after seven years struggling in the minors.
  13. Another catcher? Edit: Not complaining, just curious. Only catchers and pitchers thus far.
  14. Between Slegers and Meyer the Timberwolves are probably jealous.
  15. Not surprised with the CF situation. But with all those surgeries can he still play CF even if he's mostly a bench option?
  16. This pick makes me think the Reece McGuire bluff perhaps was not a bluff after all. Anyone unhappy with picking Eades in round 2 due to lack of upside is probably going to throw a fit about this one.
  17. This pick makes me think the Reece McGuire bluff perhaps was not a bluff after all. Anyone unhappy with picking Eades in round 2 due to lack of upside is probably going to throw a fit about this one.
  18. So they're not the same pitcher then?
  19. I guess I just like starters with 96 MPH fastballs.
  20. I don't think he overplayed his hand, I think he played it well in fact. Remember, it was only about a month ago that Stewart became the defacto #4 BPA. We had a half dozen other names that were popping up to the Twins at #4 and Stewart was a dark horse. Stewart was originally projected in the 8-15 range below the HS OF's and college pitchers. Surely he was planning to use his football scholarship as leverage had he been drafted in that range, the threat of school was probably legit. Once he became solidly a top 5 pick where the money is much higher, the signability likely became moot. If he was looking to break the bank, he likely would have picked Boras to advise him. He did not so it's possible he was just looking for fair market value as he percieved himself to be a top 5 pick.
  21. Maybe but sounds like he and his family are already throwing his leverage out the window. His dad told the local paper last night: “He’s going to go (with the Twins),” Mark Stewart said. “You don’t get drafted fourth and not go. It’s a once in a lifetime offer. He looked at me when they made the call and said, ‘Dad, I’m going to accept the (Twins’) offer.’ He’s made the decision, and he will talk to (A&M coach Kevin Sumlin).” Ultimate Astros » Kohl Stewart to bypass A&M after being drafted No. 4 by Twins Stewart also Tweeted to Eades, "good luck in the CWS" and he can't wait to be teammates with him.
  22. I'd like to see Bobby Wahl though he's another RHP. He has the stuff Ryan Eades does not. His K numbers dropped off this year but they were pretty strong in 2012 so the ability is probably there. I'd also be interested in Ryon Healy, 1B/3B out of OR. Sounds like a pretty solid defender at either corner infield spot and he can hit. His power is in question though one guy at baseball prospectus who is in love with him says the power is there. Sounds like a poor man's Colin Moran to me.
  23. Hicks had a big night for the Kernels on draft night. He went 2-5 with two more HR. That's 2 mulit-HR games in the last five along with 10 RBI in that time frame. He's pushed his BA over .300 and his OPS over .900 once again.
  24. Eades wasn't my top choice but seeing as they signed a precieved tough sign HS arm with the #4 pick, it was almost a given that the #2 pick would be an easy sign college kid. Most of those in round 2 don't have the upside we would like, but Eades is pretty polished from a big time program, perhaps they were looking for someone they can plug right into Ft. Myers. Dollars to donuts, I'll bet with DJ Baxendale's impressive debut and quick movement, they saw Eades and thought he has the same kind of potential career path. I wanted Hunter Green but assumed the Twins would have to go the college route. I was hoping for Cody Reed or Bobby Wahl, Reed however was a JC guy so I suppose he could go to a 4-year school and be a tougher sign, Wahl is still available.
