  1. Jeremy's list of recent HS righties drafted top 5: Dylan Bundy, Baltimore, 4th overall, 2011 Jameson Taillon, Pittsburgh, 2nd overall, 2010 Matt Hobgood, Baltimore, 5th overall, 2009 Mark Rogers, Milwaukee, 5th overall, 2004 Chris Gruler, Cincinnati, 3rd overall, 2002 Clint Everts, Montreal, 5th overall, 2002 Gavin Floyd, Philadelphia, 4th overall, 2001 Markos' list of recent HS righties drafted 6-10 Strange that the guys picked 6-10 are better than the guys picked top five. Perhaps this just indicates that teams have been more cautious than needed with HS pitchers. Many of the guys picked 6-10 would have been well worth a top 5 pick.
  2. I haven't been to positive with Gardy lately but if your lineup is broke of course you need to try something new. Obviously batting Mauer 3rd wasn't his first choice seeing as Mauer has been batting 2nd all year and stayed that way for an entire 10 game losing streak but he had to try something. When the Yankees were slumping Billy Martin used to create his lineups by pulling the names out of a hat. There was no rhyme or reason to it other than to mix things up and hopefully to create a spark with the players.
  3. As I think four of the top five players are pitchers, unless Bryant is on the board, the BPA will be a pitcher. Lately the debate has been should the Twins take the BPA or go underslot. If they go underslot I will be very upset.
  4. Hicks has not gone deep since May 9th. Without developing power he's not likely to go far. He is continuing his strikeout trend and he only has one extra base hit in the last ten games. Like the rest of the Kernels he's in a funk.
  5. I feel as though I should recieve a refund of some sort. Who do I speak to about this?
  6. So the signal is out on direct TV the last 5 minutes. The paused the game for us folks in Fargo did they not?
  7. I've said before that the Pohlad's are better owners than the Griffiths but that's not saying much. Carl gained his fortune through terribly unethical means and put the fans and the state through a gut wrenching ordeal to secure a stadium his family needed only pay for 33% of as opposed to Tigers ownership (66%) or St. Louis (87%). This sentance is difficult though: Another World Series championship may calm things down a bit, but with the way things have gone, perhaps Twins fans will complain of a lack of ticker tape at the victory parade. Surely they want to win another World Series, but unlike a club like Detroit, they do not appear to be willing to make the (financial) sacrafices to aggressively do so. Instead they will passively wait and hope that in the future they will be able to field a team to compete at this level. Do owners have every right to squeeze every possible dime out of their investment? Yes. In turn do the fans have the right to make them the goat if they do so? Absolutely. We certainly have the right to wish our team's ownership was as aggressive and willing as Detroit or St. Louis or San Francisco or Texas or Anaheim or Atlanta or Washington. Edit: In full disclosure I put most of the losing onus on the teams front office, but I'm going to defend anyone who gets a cathartic release from ripping one of the least willing ownerships in baseball. They do not have much of a track record to defend.
  8. Ok, ace is hard to define so lets make it simpler, how many times have the Twins had a pitcher who could be considered a top 15 starter in the league? With 30 teams, the Twins should have a guy like this every other year, yet they don't. It shouldn't be hard if the odds are 50/50. Santana certainly qualified, he was a top 15 pitcher multiple times. But why is this consistancy so terrible to expect of our GM? We could expand the peramiters to the top 20 pitchers, even top 30 and we would all too often be coming up empty. Santana is the only Twins starter in 40 years to have made more than one All-Star game. That is not acceptable.
  9. Well then I can change my stance to Santana was the only ace caliber pitcher the Twins had sustained success with since Bert Blyleven in the 1970's because while I loved Brad Radke, he was no ace.
  10. I know but that's because you alterd the timeline when you and Biff put all your money on the 2018 Twins and became rich. I had to go back to 1955 to undo the mess you made when you created the alternate 2013. Fortunately Stewart turns out OK now. McGuire is still a mess though and often takes a facefull of manuer.
  11. Provus is a great addition. I like that he feels his job requires him to be familiar with all aspects of the game, anecdotal, visual and statistical. I think he's the first person associated with the Twins that I've heard utter the word Fangraphs.
  12. Not that I'm aware of.
  13. Well not to get in the middle of anything, but none of the guys Gunnar listed had sustained success at the top of the Twins rotation. Perhaps you could argue Garza would have, though if he is actually a #1 or #2 may be debatable. Ryan nailed Santana as a great Rule V pick but he's the only ace caliber pitcher the Twins have had sustained success with since Frank Viola. If you refuse to pay an ace in free agency, you need to need to find them in the draft or through trades. This club has not been doing that. Mike may be incorrect as there have been some good pitchers developed, however this team is lacking great pitchers and you need those to win championships.
  14. You mean: 1. Yes I'm serious and I don't give a damn 2. Surely Scarlett you didn't call me Frank 3. Are you trying to seduce me Mr. Rodgers?
  15. I'm afraid to say you are thinking of a 1990's movie starring Jim Varney from the Ernest movies. The rest of us are discussing the 1960's reality program it was based on.
  16. Isn't California full of hippies who go around wearing unwashed t-shirts?
  17. I'd say about five years ago.
  18. I see the pole vaulter is back. Nice move, I think it classes up the joint.
  19. Actuallly my wife got me a Puckett jersey (with name) some years ago. I don't know much about liscencing rights but it's a Majestic brand and the tag says Classic Collection. I've seen others too, mostly the classic powder blue retro version. Mine is the dark blue road jersey.
  20. Agree with Mike. A collegiate pitcher picked number four overall has no business in Rookie League. Probably not even low A. To me it seems guys who have yet to develop a change up have the most development time, that doesn't seem to be the case here. Still, if the Twins agree with the above time table and development issues, there really is no reason not to draft Stewart instead.
  21. Great write up. I don't know why I didn't read the previous ones but I will certainly go back and check them out now. Trading up for Verlander sounds like an awesome idea, but it would have required the Twins to open up the wallet. San Deigo drafted Bush over Verlander surely because they weren't going to pay Verlander's price tag. The Twins always were in the same boat as the Padres, they too were known to avoid paying large draft signing bonuses back in the day when that was more relevant. Besides, Ryan has always seemed to prefer the rare quantity over quality approach.
  22. Any team that makes a first round pick based on defense needs a new front office. As much as some may like to think defense is the most important part of baseball, it isn't. At least not any longer. It's about pitching and driving the ball. Stay away, not a safe pick, not a smart pick, it's just wrong. I agree with Grover, if the Twins want to go underslot pick Shipley. Though I would not be happy if they went underslot.
  23. This is encouraging for Sano. Of course it's discouraging for the pitching staff. I notice like the MLB club, this team is also a bottom feeder K/9 team. Only Baxendale has a K/9 +5.6 as a starter and his 7.5 K/9 is the only less-than encouraging thing about him this year.
  24. I'm sure you just mis-read my post but my unstable ego forces me to defend myself by pointing out that I said the same thing.
  25. The lottery is made up of a combination of the teams with the ten lowest revenues and the ten smallest markets. St. Louis believe it or not is one of the ten smallest markets while Detroit recieves revenue sharing due to playing in the financial sinkhole which is Detroit Michgan. So yes, the two teams I wish the Twins would most strive to emulate are supposedly in a worse financial situation than the Twins. Not surprisingly Detroit's owner paid for 66% of his stadium while the St. Louis ownership paid for 87% of theirs. The Pohlad's paid for 33% of the costs for thier park. And it was more expensive.
