  1. They probably liked his middling 7.7 K/9, but since the reports of multiple team's scouts showing up to watch, I think he's been striking out more guys, that may have turned the Twins scouts off.
  2. Is witty banter permitted?
  3. Yes, number one has been hurting this team the last decade, timing is everything. The Twins should have a huge advantage when deciding between two of their players; they should know these guys better than any other team. Though teams that utilize advanced metrics may be able to project them better.
  4. That's true, though they did try the defensively challenged Cuddyer at 2B more than once. They also went with the rangeless and aging Orlando's at 2B in consecutive years and traded superiour JJ Hardy to take a flier on a Japanese SS they knew next to nothing about. I don't disagree with you, but I think they have overlooked middle infield defense for varoius reasons in the past With the struggle of the offense, I wouldn't be surprised if they did it again to get as many weapons as possible in the lineup some time next year. Also, Dozier was a pretty bad SS last year, but he was pretty good in the minors. If the Twins beleive that 2012 was the exception offensively, I think should at least entertain the idea that it was the exception defensively also.
  5. The problem with a team with a 2B surplus trading with a team with a SS surplus is that the team with all the SS could easily move one of them to 2B, which is likely what the Cubs will do with one of their many SS prospects. They've also got #2 overall pick Kris Bryant for 3B, I'm thinking the rebuilding Cubs would much prefer their young middle infielders to Dozier and the Twins infielders.
  6. But you also have to consider the Reds bought Latos for four more years from a 23-year-old still under arbitration and the Nats bought Gonzalez for three more years from a 25-year-old who was willing to negotiate an extenstion with possilbities through 2018. Shields was 30 and had only two years under contract, in my opinion Latos and Gonzalez should be more valuable.
  7. I haven't suggested the Twins will do this, I've just suggested they should do this. What else are they going to do with these throw away games if they aren't going to go the experiment/experience route? I doubt they move him, but even if they don't try it this year, I don't think it's out of the questiong considering the last couple of years the Twins called up Colabello and Parmelee and plugged them right into RF despite the fact they hadn't played the position the entire season in AAA.
  8. I disliked John Moses and did so vehemently. Mostly it was unfounded as it was because he simply replaced Tom Brunansky in RF when Bruno was traded for the human puddle of vomit. Side note, I also disliked the human puddle of vomit. I loved Bruno and no one was going to replace him, I would have felt better if the team had run only eight defenders out each inning and just asked Puckett and Gladden to cover the entire outfield. I did enjoy one thing about Moses; he was the first position player that I remember coming in to pitch in a blowout. It wasn't a new practice but it was novel to me. The Twins actually asked him to pitch three times, though Cuddyer, Butera and Carroll laugh at his 9.00 career ERA.
  9. I'm in the trade Dozier over Rosario camp. He's basically found money, he went from zero trade value to pretty solid value in the space of about 40 games. As noted by others, he's looking legit though the power might be a mirage. But really, if the power isn't legit what do we have? Even with the 17 HR he's only a .735 OPS and .311 OBP. I think the last couple weeks of the season he should play some at SS to see if it is viable, if that isn't an option however, perhaps the Twins could finally trade a guy when he's at his peak value.
  10. Yup, but of course only if Ryan brings it up first for them to mull over.
  11. Why were injuries mentioned at all? The Twins were long out of any playoff race when Willingham and Mauer went down. The Twins were among the healthiest teams in the league at the beginning of the year.
  12. Agreed. Reading the minor league reports during the spring and summer, Walker's name was always popping up and I thought he was quite underrated. But when you take a closer look at that Low A OBP it takes the wind out of your sails. A power hitter with a .278 average you would expect to see a very high OBP.
  13. I don't know, if people only talked about baseball in the game thread, it seems it would just lead to increased negativity which is already causing friction.
  14. Which means there is only one who has been named BA's high school POY, MiLB POY and MLB MVP. Let's make it two.
  15. I don't like it, but I agree. That would be such a classicly passive way to dismiss Gardy, it does sound like it's right in the organization's wheelhouse. Though in my post I said "if" not "when" Gardy is replaced. Though I don't necissarily agree with it, I still think the adds are Gardy gets an extension.
  16. Agreed, I'm tired about hearing about getting better value for their money. They will be comfortably within the confines of their self dictated cap no matter how they put together the roster. If you NEED something, you have to pay for it even if you think it's overpriced. None of us have stopped buying gas even though its price is beyond what we perceive it should be. We need it. Ryan needs top of the rotation pitchers.
  17. What does this mean, you're sleeping with your boss? What on earth does this have to do with the Twins 2014 payroll? So the Twins are backing out of this stated but non-binding agreement and they are to be applauded?
  18. Good write up. Buxton's name has more meaning this year than last year but overall I think it's a step back from last year as Arcia, Gibson and Hicks were higher profile than the draft additions of Stewart, Gonsalves and Eades, though I really like Stewart and am intreagued by Gonsalves. I don't care much for Eades though. A side note, Eades is the highest picked college arm that played pro ball this year that didn't pitch in A ball. In fact only 4 college arms from the first 3 rounds exclusively pitched in rookie league, and only 9 in the first 5 rounds hold that distinction (Slegers was another). Most college arms picked in the first 5 rounds actually started in A ball.
  19. I kind of wish we could invoke some kind of media and fan injunction to stop any talk of Buxton until he actually plays a MLB game. As a fan of Minnesota sports, I've been conditioned to believe hype for my teams leads to utter disappointment and fate is going to come along at any moment and kick our would-be star square in the ding dong. Please restore my faith and become what these karma-tempting prognosticators promise you will be Byron!
  20. If Gardy is let go, they should do it now and give Gene Glynn the interim label now that his Rochester team is done playing.
  21. He's got some power and some speed and I'd prefer him over Florimon, but I suspect Ryan and company would pass due to the very high strikeouts and poor OBP, even if it is an improvement over the incumbant.
  22. Bored at work so I was checking out what else the Japanese leagues have to offer. Forget Tanaka, when does this kid get posted? Shintaro Fujinami Japanese League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com A 6'5" Japanese pitcher?! Wow, and only 19. I say if Ryan losses the posting fee bidding war on Tanaka, he puts a team together and starts rebuilding the pitching staff with a little extrodinary rendition.
  23. I actually think Ryan will look for an excuse to extend Gardenhire. There hasn't been any point in the season the Twins have played well enough that Ryan could justify going out and offering an extension based on current performance. However, I think he's painted himself into a corner based on past comments implying the failure isn't Gardy's fault. The Twins have won two in a row, I wouldn't be surprised if they win a few more using these young guys, if Ryan uses that as justification to offer an extension before the season ends.
  24. Unless it was posted backwards, they are actually giving the edge in arm to Buxton.
  25. You must not have been following the Twins during the first rebuild attempt from 1995-1998. That was a disaster. So he's basically 1-1 when it comes to rebuilds, not exactly proof positive he will succeed in his third attempt.
