    Also Michael Nakamura, Brad Thomas and Glenn Williams. They've also had Justin Huber and Josh Spence in the system. 33 Aussies have played in the MLB and eight have played for the Twins. They certainly have their fingerprints on Australian baseball.

    This is what I suspect, however, it would then imply the Twins already have an offer out to their top target. We have also heard that the Twins do not have an offer out to Nolasco, implying neither he nor Arroyo are their top targets (awesome). Do they have an offer out to Garza now? Perhaps Johnson who might take his time as he has said he wants to pitch for San Diego or San Francisco and neither may be interested? While only having an offer to their top target would make sense, it has been reported that the Twins are trying hard to acquire two quality free agent pitchers. Do they have two offers out now? Seeing as top athletes often like to play with other top athletes, perhaps signing your second or third choice first might help sway your top choice into picking you.

    Logic would agree with this. However at the same time, if a prospect like Polanco or Kepler were available for the Twins to nab, there would be plenty of us begging the team to do so. Many of us were hoping the team would take a flier on Braulio Lara last year and the Marlins actually did, though they soon returned him. I agree that Wimmers, Achter and Darnell are most likely to get picked up. I would think Achter would be pretty close to a cinch to get picked in fact. If the Twins strong bullpen wasn't still intact, he'd probably be among the favorites to win a spot coming out of spring training anyway. I'd probably gamble that Kepler won't get picked up, it's a long shot that he would, but his corner OF/1B availablility does provide some bench versatility. The lack of versatility is why we should not worry about Vargas getting picked. I'd also wonder about Wimmers and Oliveros but the Twins should at least have the advantage of being the only team with a reliable evaluation of their recovery timetable. If they are ready for a full season workload, they both have a strong shot at being claimed.

    Most people were saying that the Giants got a bargain though. I don't think his contract will be percieved as the measuring stick if that's the case.

    Specifically Arroyo mentioned "the Phillies, the Dodgers, the Angels, the Giants, the Twins, maybe even the Orioles," as the teams who have called on him. Playing armchair psychologist, I'd guess being the first team he named, the Phillies are his preferred choice.

    They didn't have to give up more. The Twins just needed to get whatever the equivalent value was in non 40-man roster players.

    I like LaTroy and I want more vocal personalities on this club. Still, I doubt LaTroy's sage rhetoric can reach from the bullpen to the dugout. This team needs to look for dugout personalities. Last year, in-game shots of the bench looked like the last pew at a 10:00 AM church service.

    I agree but I still don't know what we should expect from the results. What if we tried this on the 2012-2013 Indians? That club went from having a rotation full of liabilities to having a rotation full of assets while basically retaining 80% of the personell from the previous year.

    Trading Liriano would have been bigger news than trading anyone from last year's rotation not named Gibson due to Liriano's name value and the fact that he is the only pitcher the Twins have had since Santana was moved that had the pitches and make up to be higher than a #3 starter. Still, even if the Twins had traded Correia or Pelfrey last year, it wouldn't have been "small stuff." Unless the team is dumping a utility player or extra bullpen arms, I don't think moving anyone from the 25 man roster is a small move.

    I've said it a bunch, but the biggest issue with the trade was that the Twins ridiculously took on two guys who required 40 man roster spots. They gave up one roster spot and took on two. For a clearly rebuilding team it was a terrible decision considering both Hernandez and Escobar were among the five worst players on the 40 man. It made no sense. Surely they could have gotten someone that would not have required a roster decision but the front office was adamant that the team was not rebuilding and they needed pieces that could help right away. I think that's news to many of us, do you have a link to that? I don't recall that at all last off season.

    I don't think age has much to do with the Twins unwillingness to move pitchers. I think experience does however. Stewart probably could have been given a start or two in full season ball but he was only used sparingly in the rookie leagues. Whether he should have been given more than 20 innings pitched in professional ball is the question that should be asked. That's what would be putting a quick advancement in peril, not his actual age.

    I wonder if Santana's partially torn UCL is a factor in the Twins interest. He's pitched with it for several years and has been durable, but it's a red flag and you'd have to think a guy with a partially torn UCL may not be the pitcher you want to give a four year contract out to despite his track record. It just seems like a time-bomb.

    Well the person who buys my ticket on Stubhub will be pretty disappointed when he goes to recline then.

    I'm a skeptic and a pessimist, but even I'll admit that this is a new level of public disclosure. It could be a masquarade, but we have not seen this before, the Twins have never been linked to top free agents aside from unlikely and unsubstantiated rumors, at least not since Andy McPhail was running things. This information is coming from sports writers (with sources) and agents. This is totally new territory.

    I don't think they could do more then sell the seat backs. The seats are anchred into the cement and all connected on the same base. Each would only have one armrest too if they were to some how cut them apart. Still, I'm trying to figure out which sized socket wrench I need to bring to the last Vikings game in December.

    I think the Cubs hang up pretty quick on that one. The Cubs have a ton of middle infield prospects, I don't think Dozier could be a key to this trade, nor do I think he has all that much value. The Diamondbacks are reported to be hot on Samardzija and while they won't have to give up Archie Bradley, the rumor is that they should expect to part with Tyler Skaggs. Prospect-wise, you would have to think the Twins would have to give up Alex Meyer to counter. I'm not interested in doing that.

    Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the angst has as much to do with free agency roster spots as much as it does the crunch already created with the Rule V threat. I'd hope guys like Vargas, Wimmers and Kepler had priority for 40 man spots. Things are getting tight again, but as mentioned, cuts can still be made.

    All but one? Pelfrey, Marquis, Hernandez, Ortiz. Correia was better than expected but am I missing someone else? The Twins free agent starters from the NL not only fail, they all are so bad they usually get their walking papers by June. Pelfrey was an exception but only because the Twins had no one else to plug in at that time.

    I'll bet Kazmir gets more than anyone is predicting. But it should be from the Twins. An overpay on a two year gamble will not hurt this team in the long run. Nor in the short run, really.

    Arroyo is a good pitcher, and if the Twins signed him after signing a couple other guys who can miss bats it would be different. I shouldn't speak for others who are frustrated, but I think it boils down to one question: If the Twins are serious about getting a top 20 free agent pitcher, why are they targeting one of the two guys who can't manage an acceptable strikeout rate? Missing bats is a huge problem for this club, why are they looking to add to that issue?

    I'm just not interested in trading for a guy who will go looking for big money about the time this team is hopefully ready to contend. I'm not giving away decent prospects for two years of capable catcher play during rebuilding years. They Twins aren't going to give Weiters a big money contract, nor should they. His value still seems to be driven by his prospect hype and he has not lived up to it. Not even close.

    I'm confused, am I the "fanboy?" Perhaps I have a faulty interpretation of the term but I thought it applied to brown nosers who wouldn't dare speak an ill word of the idol in fear that said idol was listening. The Twins don't have to listen to me. It's just frustrating that they continue to be attracted to the same kind. There are plenty of free agents with league average or better strikeout rates available.

    Damn I want to cry. It's almost like the front office is taunting everyone who points to the fact that the lack of strikeouts is a major cause for the ineffectiveness of the rotation.
