  1. While the class did seem to suck, I don't think we can give Ryan too much credit for identifying it as such. He did after all go on MLB Network and exhasperatingly say that he was trying to give away money but none of the free agents would take it. Seems to me this would imply he wanted those free agents but he wasn't offering enough money, years or coupons to The Seville.
  2. If "going slow" is the proper course for Meyer, I'm confused as to why he needs to "go slow" at Rochester and not in Minnesota. If he's only got a finite number of bullets in his arm, why are they being spent in AAA. Besides, if "going slow" means you are a detriment to the club as you have to be yanked early, doesn't it make more sense to be a liablity in meaningless games? The Twins are playing meaningless games, the Red Wings are not.
  3. You talking about Gladden or Gardenhire? Gardy still refers to it as Cybermetrics last I saw. Going the other way is a nice tool to have, but everyone is acting like it's no big deal and can easily be accomplished by every hitter. It often requires recognizing that the pitch is going to be on the outer half of the plate very early and then staying back on the pitch. That can be a tall order for some of these guys. It would be great if everyone could hit to all fields with no expense to their pull power, but not everyone can. Mauer in his prime seemed to consciously sacrifice his power so he could stay back on the pitches and use all fields and few are considered as good as a hitter as Mauer was in his heyday. Hypothetically, if gaining 15% in contact rate also costs Arcia 15% of his power, are we good with that? I'm not.
  4. Nice work Seth. Hopefully shortly MLBTR will have an update to the original May item with a Seth Stohs and/or Twins Daily plug.
  5. That doesn't make it clear if it's a 25 or 40 man roster move. That would be more telling. Unless they haven't yet made up their mind, you'd think it wouldn't be May or Meyer. I'd assume they'd give us more than a one day notice about their promotion seeing as they would move the meter and finally give the Twins some good ink, which in turn brings fans to the park.
  6. As much as I like Molitor, I'd also like the Twins to go outside the organization just to prove they are willing to get away from the scholarship program. While Baylor was a former Twins (breifly) he's certainly not an organizational guy. Still, I think his time passed. However, Chili Davis' stock seems to be on the rise.
  7. I think the only question is if he can survive a month of roster crunches long enough to make it to September when rosters expand and he can sit on the bench unnoticed for the rest of the year. My money's on "no" as the Rochester/Minneapolis AAAA pitcher rotation will inevitably hit a snag at some point and the team will have to go to a 3 man bench, even if for only a day or two. I have no problem with Parmelee as the backup CF. Like the old saying goes, if your backup CF lacks range, does he really miss more balls if no one is around to see it?
  8. There has been a long history of players who were lower tier prospects who turned into MLB stars, still, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. While I'm hoping it doesn't and the Twins have a long term solution for SS, it would be just as welcome to have a legit solution for the top of the order. Of course if we're going off MiLB history, his OBP is the area that is most likely to regress.
  9. Thorpe and Berrios have been fast risers, perhaps they'll break the mold, but we can't assume that just because they got bumped quickly in rookie and A ball that they will be in the majors soon. Caution seems to be preached with pitching, which is fine, but with Gibson, May and Meyer, there seemed to be more detours than there were for the hitters in the upper minors. A near finished product seems to be the expectation for the pitchers while the batters are allowed some developmental time at the majors.
  10. The Twins have been very proactive lately calling up the young batters and I expect an earlier than expected debut for Buxton as well. The pitchers do not appear to be get the same consideration though. Perhaps it speaks to their confidence, or lack thereof when it comes to developing pitchers.
  11. Which is why Fangraphs said the Twins were quite possibly the team that would covet him the most. With a passion, I hate the acceptability this team has of soft-tossing contact inducing pitchers, still, I would have traded Fuld for 2012 Scott Diamond too. While it's near impossible to find a soft tosser with front of the rotation upside, getting one who has gotten by with his junk ball three years running for a stopgap OF is pretty good even if he profiles as a number 5.
  12. Looking at the roster the last half decade, there appears to be ample evidence to indicate that they are indeed OK with that kind of production.
  13. I'm glad it's two years, I figured Suzuki wouldn't agree to less than three. I could care less about the money. Still, now we'll almost surely never know what kind of offers the Twins had on the table for him and anyone who was hopeful the Twins would move him will get the old, "no one was offering anything for him," schtick. Maybe, maybe not.
  14. OK, lets put the whole team on waivers now and see who slips through. You'd think now would be the time that any questionable players would make it.
  15. Ha, who's going to bat leadoff for the Tigers now? Is a team that has Rajai Davis as an every day CF and leadoff hitter going to win the World Series?
  16. Ha, MLBTR keeps crashing. Can't wait to see what's going on here. No way is Smyly and Franklin the best Tampa could do.
  17. Let the Tigers have Price, he's a free agent after 2015 and Scherzer's a free agent next year. The Twins won't be competitve during that time, meanwhile the Tigers will have to decide which pitcher they want to give another albatros contract to for their decline years. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll give them both 7 year $200 million contracts.
  18. That sounds like a value all teams have. Even if it's not true, the national perception is that the Twins are the team that most disregards the strikeout and there has been plenty of commentary on that issue, multiple times from Fangraphs in fact.
  19. Good article, and Fuld is being undervalued. The one thing that the article didn't mention is Fuld's pretty awesome .370 OBP, which you know Beane likes. He's not better than Cespedes, but that is a .63 OBP gain. Still can't help but be drawn to this inferrence: "the team that might value him the most." And this one "Everything works out, then. Milone wanted a change of scenery, and he landed with the organization that most values his kind of skillset." Fangraphs and everyone else who studies baseball will continue to assume that the Twins refuse to look for strikeout pitchers at the MLB level until they start to prove otherwise.
  20. I think we asked the organization those questions about CF and SS this year. The answer we got: "Who the hell cares!"
  21. Other reports state they are not close do a deal: https://twitter.com/ChrisCotillo/status/494878040045133824 So talks today likely suggest it's a last ditch effort to sign him before they trade him. Good news to me, those suggesting this is just routine procedural stuff are probably right.
  22. Well reports are stating the Twins are having a hard time moving him now, in his career year. Negotiate with him after the season, he is playing at his peak now, why would anyone in their right mind think it's a good time to get into negotiations? I'll take him back (preferrably after a trade) but his price isn't going to go up from where it is now. If anything you can get him at fewer years and/or fewer dollars come the end of the season.
  23. Well he's also currently seriously discussing extending Suzuki instead of trading him or negotiating with him in the off season after he comes back to earth, so I'd say it's a push at best.
  24. Because players and coaches in a continual cycle of losing who aren't fullfilling their potential should voice their demands so as to keep the status quo. Most of these players and coaches shouldn't be on this team the next two years, why bow to their demands?
