  1. It just kind of feels like this is the case. Not that Molitor is or would be insubordinate, just that he has that option available to him should he so choose. Pohlad should have never made that decree. If he absolutely wanted to mandate that his GM keep Molitor, it should have been a private matter which would allow the new GM to look like it was his decision. Now with any GM/manager disputes, public or private, the manager has all the leverage.
  2. Just a hypothetical then: You're the GM and the manager flat out tells you that Joe Mauer is going to bat 3rd and will be his full-time 1B in 2017 come rain or shine and you can't stop him from setting his lineup. You can make any player moves you wish but you cannot make a managerial move.
  3. Didn't they both defect to the blue side before they died? Or perhaps defecting is what killed them?
  4. You can say that again, only neanderthals too afraid of evolution.
  5. I agree in principle, but then you have to have a manager that buys into the bench/platoon option. You could also say the same thing about Plouffe. Or Suzuki. Or Milone.
  6. Interesting, it almost seems like I'm plagiarizing your material, word for word.
  7. An ignorant answer from another non-athlete. Players do tend to get stronger and add muscle as they age, but I think the arm strength is largely due to flexibility of the joint. Using pitchers as an easily visible example, guys tend to lose velocity in their mid-20's. Since throwing over-hand is a largely unnatural thing for the human body to do I don't know that arm strength typically increases due to muscle growth, but instead decreases as wear on the joint accumulates and flexibility lessens.
  8. I just want to see moves that are consistent with a vision, not just throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks. Polanco can stay at SS, but then get rid of the sinkerballers like Gibson and Kintzler, (or tell Gibson to stop throwing his terrible sinker). Polanco can be a utility guy, but then make sure your manager isn't so stubborn in his positioning at the other positions that Polanco doesn't play six games a week. Polanco can play 3B, but then there better be a plan to upgrade the SS position because it's not like Eduardo Escobar playing SS everyday is a huge upgrade. Polanco or Dozier can be traded, but the players coming back better make sense. Both players are too good to be traded just for the sake of a trade, because the above three options could work if they are made in conjunction with other moves to make a specific organizational vision. This just can't be another, "Eh, we're kind of just winging it, just stick Sano in RF for the time being" situation.
  9. In the films, I'd guess they already have plans to start killing off an Avenger or two, likely those with the most prohibitive salaries. But I hear you. While the comic book shows are pretty modern in many ways, the main characters who you know will pull through are kind of a throw back to past shows, many of them poorly written. Now if they had the guts to kill one of them off in The Defenders, my level of interest may go up again. As for the fighting, while I'd be interested in a more introspective comic book show, I'd bet they'd lose a pretty large part of their audience. I'd guess having at minimum one action sequence a show is going to be standard going forward.
  10. In fairness to Beck, I haven't listened to a word he's said in the past decade. So if he isn't the same conniving, sniveling, fact-twisting, excuse-maker I remember, then congratulations to him and my apologies.
  11. Me too. I was going to say that Turner and Slegers just seem like guys the front office would protect needlessly, but then it occurred to me that that is what the OLD front office would have been tempted to do. No clue what Favley will do, but I can't wait to find out.
  12. Yeah, I'll take the Wisconsin woman Tweeting above over 200 Becks. I mean I'd like to rub the Beck bit in Trump's and the RNC's noses, but they can keep keep him.
  13. Yeah, look at Roy Hobbs. He was a stud two way player but didn't make it to the majors until he was like 35, and it seemed like he must have had to give up pitching anyway! Also, he looked waaaaaaay older than that, closer to 50, that much development time must really take it's toll.
  14. Yeah, she's got nothing to gain in terms of the election if she goes on without Trump, and again him not showing is only a random thought I pulled out of my butt. But would she have to answer questions? Or could she put on a variety show and invite all the Republicans who have endorsed her over Trump to do skits and musical numbers? No doubt Glen Beck would show up and sing a duet, he can't resist the spotlight.
  15. Another thought, with Trump's history of creating lawsuits and threatening them, there's got to be a pretty big chance that he decides to sue somebody following this election trying to hold up the results even if/when it's a landslide.
  16. Trump's attacking any and all Republican's now. Tweets everywhere including this one: "Disloyal R's are far more difficult than Crooked Hillary. They come at you from all sides. They don't know how to win - I will teach them," he tweeted. This is awesome, he's going to do something "yuge" and irreconcilable for his party I can just feel it. Also, anyone know what happens if Trump refuses to go the the last debate? Does Clinton still get to go and do a solo improve show? Because at this point, my money is on Trump not doing it, perhaps trying to do his live Twitter commentary like he did during the RNC debate he skipped. http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/11/politics/donald-trump-paul-ryan-tweets/index.html If the Republican's are already ceding the White House, but are still worried about losing House and Senate seats, shouldn't they all start endorsing Clinton now, simply in an attempt to get more of their faithful out to the polls? Because seriously, the people Trump are turning off are more likely to not go out to vote at all unless there is some kind of implicit message from their leaders that it's OK to vote for the non-sociopath.
  17. Same thing happened to McCain. Bush ruined it for the party as he gave the lunatic fringe a voice and now they expect it to be heard. If they don't get their way, they're A-OK ruining it for the rest of the party. I will give Trump credit in that he's the first Republican nominee of the last three that didn't change his rhetoric upon getting the nomination. Of course in this case it's the candidate simply saying crazy s*%& the whole way through instead of only during the primaries.
  18. Yes, I was thinking Billy Beane v Art Howe. Beane knew what he wanted but he also knew that if Howe had options, he would choose the opposite. It's easier sometimes to just remove the option. And frankly, a manager who loses 100 games and somehow keeps his job probably has little reason to second guess his new boss.
  19. Agreed, she doesn't have to be like able in 2020, the economy does.
  20. If I'm a new GM/POBO who doesn't have authority to hire a new manager, there is no chance I tender Plouffe knowing the incumbent manager can't help himself when it comes to finding starting roles for vets.
  21. My rebuttal: "You're going to imprison your political opponent? I guess you really have been taking advice from the Russians. Clinton's retorts aren't gold that's for sure. She's no Obama, but we already knew that going in and it's a large reason why Obama won eight years ago. But she's running for president, not auditioning to be a James Bond script writer.
  22. At least Rosario Dawson had a bigger role. Thumbs up there.
  23. I have one episode left. Saying three was the low point might leave you disappointed. All the things I said above about culture and authenticity seemed to go away in the back half of the season. The second half seemed like a sequel created by an entirely different team and one that didn't pick up on the original view. Harlem was a character in the first half and the neighborhood theme was the undercurrent for all events. The second half of the season could have been set in Peru.
  24. Post debate gab is discussing Trump throwing Pence under the bus, but why isn't any one pointing out that Trump's dis of Pence included implicit acknowledgement that he backs the Russians in the Syria situation?!? How is that not a huge problem?
