  1. I guess I'd like to know when rehab is. The guys with season ending injuries where they are initially penciled in to be ready in the spring have lately tended to end up not being ready until late the next season, if at all.** If he's supposed to be start throwing again in January, great, if it's June, I don't see the point in holding a spot for him. It's not like the Twins can't re-sign him in 2018 should they so choose. **Which is good, get healthy, don't wreck your future to get back early.
  2. I would assume they would not if they are issued their out right release or reassigned. I could see some merit in DFA'ing Santana. Also, if the labrum surgery that Perkins had truly has a success rate of around 10%, I don't see why he doesn't get released. Is he really going to pitch in 2017 and if he does, what are the odds that he would even be league average? His 2018 buyout is only 700K. If he isn't likely to come back before the AS break, I don't see much reason keeping a roster spot for him based on the extreme long-shot odds that he can be just OK for the back half of 2017. The Perkins stuff is only based on the bleak outlook elsewhere discussed about his injury. If it's more like a 50/50 recovery and we know he'll be back in 2017, then sure, keep him.
  3. I liked Bush Sr. He got a bit of a raw deal.
  4. They're going to have a lot of people they need to knee-cap: http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/new-mexico/ In NM Trump should be looking over his shoulder at Johnson and worried about 3rd place.
  5. Well after Trump's failed coup November 9th he goes to jail for treason right?
  6. I thought his foreign policy was to let the Russians destroy ISIS just like they've been doing in Syria for the last two years. Thanks Putin!
  7. Well Fox News' Chris Wallace probably won't call out Trump for his lies like Cooper and Raddatz did. I'm sure he'll be fair, but there's a small part of my brain telling me that the media, including (especially) Fox News, would prefer a close race the last couple of weeks as a blowout by Clinton will get people to start tuning out election coverage early.
  8. Wouldn't all three of these things ensure that the best players all go to the big market teams? With the Twins sitting with the top pick and the next can't miss stud is there: Scenario 1: His agent tells everyone not to draft him because they'd be wasting their pick; after all 40 rounds are complete everyone can have a bidding war. Scenario 2: Since there is no cap, his agent tells everyone that his client demands $100M (but tells the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers that it's really $50M) basically reverting the draft back to how the Rule 4 draft was prior to the last CBA. Scenario 3: The Twins pick the kid and he tells them to trade him or he won't sign, ala John Elway and Eli Manning. The Twins would have no shot at anyone close to elite talent if these things were agreed upon.
  9. I think it just goes to show that most sane and humble people have no interest in the job.
  10. That sounds like the exact kind of mindset needed to work this out.
  11. I'm trying to phrase the question frankly, apologies if it doesn't come out right. I know young people leaving rural areas for the "city" is an issue, and really it has probably always been an issue. I would guess there is often great consternation regarding this, but do the parents and the other residents tend to get exasperated with the young people themselves for leaving, or do they blame the urban area for drawing them? I'm just curious, perhaps that kind of thing isn't really discussed.
  12. I don't fault a guy for auditioning for a job. When the pitching was as bad as it was last year, he really has no other option than to play the 'If only they would have listened to me' card. But again, I think they may be able to do better. Maybe not.
  13. It is embarrassing, but it probably shouldn't be. European countries regularly have nut jobs in a dead heat for elections, often winning. Look at what GB just did, look at what Greece continues to do. At least Trump isn't officially a leader of a hate group, lot's of those countries have mainstream parties winning elected posts who's platforms are 'White Nationalist' type garbage, and not just the struggling Balkan area, Scandinavia has some real elected lunatics espousing hateful stuff. America is the media capital of the world, so while Trump is embarrassing and unfortunately the whole world is watching, these other countries probably need to look in the mirror.
  14. To be fair to Allen, he didn't start anybody and a relatively new guy who was away from the team for half the year probably had little pull in organizational matters run by guys who have been here decades. Ryan put Duffy on the roster and Molitor stuck him in the rotation. Now that's not to say I want Allen to stay, I'd prefer fresh eyes. His game plan appears sound, but really it boils down to "Improve the minor leaguer's fastball command before they can advance", which when spelled out basically sounds the same as "Duh". If Falvey likes Allen based on his work with TB minor leaguers that's fine, consider keeping him. I wouldn't do it based on this plan though, it's probably something that was going to be worked on no matter who is running the show.
  15. No one swings between being sympathetic to maddenly insane as quickly and often as John McCain.
  16. Seeing as we never did settle the question about whether it was drafting or developing talent that was causing the problems (we were so close!), I'm all for bringing in new coaches/instructors to try that development angle again. We have to wait until June for that whole draft part anyway.
  17. Molitor also never poops as evidenced by the fact that the camera never shows him doing it. What kind of human never poops? I'm not cool with an android manager.
  18. That was a rough read. It's got to be tough to distance one's beliefs from their parents when that's all that you know about life, that's not usually a cord you want to cut.
  19. I get it, and I read the article posted here a few pages back, but the people suffering can't also pretend that there isn't at least a certain degree of stubbornness on their part as well. Hopefully a rural way of life can be preserved, but there is a reason why every futuristic show depicts large urban environments, that likely is going to be part of social evolution. But putting that aside, they somehow refuse to recognize that Donald Trump and his ilk are the reason their small towns are dying. His brand of ultra-capitalism is why stores, businesses and factories move out of rural areas. It wasn't all that long ago that these businesses had community involvement. Making a profit was essential, but MAXIMIZING profit was not the ultimate goal. Now the local agronomy company has gone public and has to kowtow to shareholders, not the community and that means packing up shop and moving to a more centralized location to keep costs down. Now the local supermarket realizes they can close the location in the town of 200 and move 30 miles away to a larger metro area knowing their market base will be bigger because those 200 people will still have to come get their groceries, even if it's 30 miles away. I get that Democrats haven't stopped this, but it is the Republican supporters that are causing and endorsing it. I think too many of these people think being fiscally conservative is going to save their communities when they don't realize being fiscally conservative is why these businesses are moving away. It's less cost effective to remain open in these areas; it probably always was, and probably always will be, so stop supporting politicians that encourage policies that push businesses to maximize their profits.
  20. These types of guys are fine by me, but is a guy like Feliz going to be getting big money? I guess these were the type of guys I was referencing as bounce-back pick ups. I also like the idea of manufacturing closers and trading them at the deadline, I've been advocating it for years. The Twins could have done it with Perkins for several years and they never bothered to pull the trigger. They also did it with Kintzler last year and never moved him either.
  21. But what good does a bullpen do for a bottom feeder team? Kenley Jansen would hardly ever pitch for this team as they never have the lead late in games, it seems like a major waste of resources.
  22. I'm not against getting some free agent pen help, but I think it should be of the bounce-back variety. I don't see much logic in a 100 loss team spending big money on a closer. My dark horse prediction. Phil Hughes gets the job and runs with it by the end of April if he comes back from his surgery (and maybe he doesn't, I have no clue how long it takes to recover from sawing out a freakin' rib). Prior to his decline, which one would hope was due to the nerve issue, he had decent velocity, which tends to increase in the pen.
  23. That seems light to me. Not inaccurate, just disappointing. The problem is, Dozier has been such a streaky hitter through his career that hanging on to him and letting him try to prove his worth again in 2017 then trying to trade him mid-season allows for a gigantic chance that he losses value.
  24. Well at the very least, she'd be a hell of a lot of fun to tortuously dangle in front of the RNC if they don't get their act together. She's also more well liked as a First Lady than Hillary was. Which I think is part of Hillary's problem now. People remember they didn't like her back in the day, but they forget it was quite possible it was due to a more misogynistic culture. Hilary was the first First Lady in decades that wasn't either a matronly grandmother-type figure, or a girl-next-door/housewife-type. I remember personally giving her crap for Bill's indiscretions, likely because she just seemed like such a cold fish. Good lord that's awful, I wish my world view then was half of what it is today.
