  1. Where do you see that rumor? Rhett Bollinger's new article implies the opposite: https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/twins-miguel-sano-progressing-after-surgery/c-263909332 The Twins aren't looking for a full time DH as they plan on splitting Sano's days between 3B and DH. Sounds to me interest in Napoli might have been overstated or just a product of due diligence.
  2. I got no idea, and since my kids don't watch Thomas, I'm probably more in the dark. All I can say is, anyone who thinks they know how to parent a child has absolutely no clue how to parent a child. It's about 5% dumb luck, 5% what your parents did and 90% "winging it". And so I'm clear, my comment about a female Hitler being sexist isn't one of those "reverse sexism!" bits, I think implying that a woman dictator isn't equally as dangerous as a male dictator is completely misogynistic.
  3. Then the end of the article it implied that the issue was that all the the people in charge were white males, but if they were replaced by females there would be a positive message of gender equality. So female Hitler = progress? If anything that sounds sexist.
  4. I don't know. My kids never got too into either of those shows so I can't really speak to the criticisms. According to the article, the gripes with both shows seem to stem from a social hierarchy wherein the protagonists dutifully take orders and kowtow to their superiors. From what I can tell in the article this is teaching our kids that Fascism is good. To me, it sounds like a lesson in working in an office. When did the majority of jobs became strictly collaborative and nobody had a boss? Also, did I miss some new parenting memo? From my experience, kids tend to do best when there is structure, a schedule and learning that actions have consequences. These can't seriously be bad things now can they?
  5. Hmm, seems wise to at least wait to make sure they don't end up signing Darvish and Davis before getting out the pitchforks. Not that such signings will happen but it seems odd to me that few seem content to wait to post their criticisms until after we know what will happen this off season. Why is there so much impatience? Venting angst in February is just as cathartic; I'll be there too if the team doesn't put together a rotation to compete with the big boys.
  6. Redirecting to this article: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/28245-article-twins-to-sign-zach-duke-maintaining-interest-in-mike-napoli/
  7. I'm just not interested in the lack of versatility. A right handed bat would be useful but doesn't that bat have to have a viable path to platoon with Kepler? If they want an old vet who wasn't good last year to DH, get Jose Bautista, at least he can stand out in RF.
  8. McCann, Reddick and Beltran were all coming off of strong years and were supposed to be key additions ON the field.
  9. Not really a fan of this move; I'll just say what I said last year, why can't the "leadership" traits be found in better quality free agents? I guess the silver lining would be that the team must feel pretty confident in Sano's ability to reclaim 3B if they are willing to give a 25-man spot to a guy can only play 1B.
  10. I agree that the Pirates probably want better than Kepler/Jay, however I might guess that Frazier doesn't have nearly the prestige with front offices as he did with the media promoting him when he came up. He probably winds up in a corner OF spot, he probably has better than average power but big contact and strikeout issues. If the Yankees are pushing Frazier on me I probably look at it similar to the Dodgers and Jose De Leon last year; a guy with a ton of helium who doesn't appear to have the skill to match the hype.
  11. I don't think a change in pitcher skill level necessarily means a change in the pitcher results. The impetus of this change is the batters' new swing. Both 2016 and 2017 were extremes for Cole and likely will represent a career best and worst, but either way, his stuff did not appear to react well to a league-wide epidemic of uppercut swings. I wouldn't expect things to even out, I'd expect things to more resemble last year, and I'm not going to rely on historical trends when last year looked to be a significant offensive revolution. And Cole is not alone, sinkers are taking a beating league-wide. Like Kyle Gibson, Cole really cut down on his sinker usage at the end of last year, unlike Gibson, his results weren't very good.
  12. Agreed, because a trade and a free agent signing should not be a one-or-the-other proposition. I'd say "both" is a completely legit and reasonable answer.
  13. Until we see batters change their swings away from getting extra lift and maximizing launch angles, I'm going to work off of the assumption that most pitchers will resemble their 2016 figures rather than the figures prior to when that type of swing became the latest rage.
  14. Gerrit Cole's HR/9 tripled last year. Tripled! I don't see this working out well at Yankee Stadium. The Twins can go and Phil Hughes him in two years when his contract is up; a buy low candidate after NY scrubs off the last of the former top prospect's luster. I want new starters, and several of them. Cole is quite a ways down that list though.
  15. Any trade for a starter is going to be painful. I'd pay extra to get the better pitcher for four years than the lesser pitcher for two. No more half measures.
  16. I have merged the second 'Trade for Archer' thread. I think one is enough.
  17. Maybe I've always had the wrong impression, but I thought Longoria was Rays' version of Kirby Puckett or Tony Gwynn or Ozzie Smith, simply the most beloved of all Rays players. I thought that's why the Rays even felt compelled to give him that second extension to begin with.
  18. My only concern is that being the only current reliever not on a rookie contract, that the manager might cling to him in clutch situations too long even if it turns out he doesn't belong there. I don't have a problem with the signing at all, just the possibility of mis-use.
  19. Outside of Reed and Davis, I'm not too excited about the remaining free agent relief arms. I was all for getting some strikeout monsters in free agency but that doesn't look to be in the cards. No one wants to hear the "Trust the young guys" approach, but it looks like that's the hand this team is being dealt. Outside of performance issues, my biggest worry with this approach is that even if the fans are forced to watch this tactic, the team still is going to need Molitor to use it. If say Chargois and Busenitz start using their gas and are mowing guys down, what are the odds that Molitor would even run them out there in clutch situations in May or even June? I'd guess low, he likes his veterans, it's still likely to be Rodney and whoever this year's veteran spring-training invitee on a minor league deal is.
  20. It wasn't really Kinley OR Bard and Burdi though, they had the roster spots for all of them. I think we're missing an entire thread of logic (or foolishness) that just hasn't been made available to us. Kinley didn't cost the team Burdi and Bard, those actions were not cause and effect, their only relation is that they all were transactions during the same event.
  21. I'm rather indifferent on Rodney, I'm still going to be disappointed if they don't go bigger and better with free agency. But who cares if they paid more than market rate? It still ain't much. Also Rodney isn't going to determine if this team makes the playoffs, that will hinge on the starters. AZ got to the playoffs with Rodney as the closer.
  22. I agree with the logic; Longoria was less of a need and the team could more afford to lose him and stay competitive. But he is the face of the organization, to me it seems like trading Longoria was like ripping off the band-aid. TB absolutely should rebuild considering how the Yankees and Red Sox look right now and considering that the other two also-rans in the division, Toronto and Baltimore, seem to be indecisive. Trading Longoria makes it so much easier for them to detach themselves from their other valuable assets.
  23. Can you count The Avengers? That new trailer looked like a bunch of them were going to bite it.
  24. OK, now Zach Britton has torn his achilles and is likely out until late in the season. He's a free agent after this year but the O's would be on the hook for about 12M in arbitration salary if they keep him, so odds are they'll release him. If the Twins happened to make the same move with Britton I assume it will come with the same derision?
