  1. I'd be interested in swapping him for Cron should Castellanos be able to play 1B. Of course the problem there is that he's never played 1B.
  2. I doubt pro athletes are wired much differently than the rest of us Average Joes, they're still humans who have worries, biases, fears and preferred comforts. We hear every offseason that Free Agent A wants to play on the West Coast or Free Agent B wants to be closer to his wife's family. I'd think the biggest difference in wiring is between the swinging young bachelors and the folks married with children.
  3. I can't speak for the players, but I could list at least a half dozen MLB cities I would never move to if I was offered a raise to move there. I'm sure plenty of people would chase the money, but I'd bet most of humanity wouldn't put that at the top of their list. It would probably be about 4th on mine, and I'd find it hard to believe that most other people don't feel the same way. Most of these guys have wives and children, baseball isn't automatically their top priority.
  4. A catching coach? Is he going to be like a roving instructor? Of is he going to be a specialty coach for Rochester? This sounds a bit unique and the way I'm picturing it, I like it. The all-bat/sketchy-glove catching prospects usually end up at another position. If a team figures out a way to keep these guys behind the plate, that's a pretty big score. These types of players seem to be on the Twins radar come draft day, Ryan Jeffers and Chris Williams came to mind when I read this post.
  5. I have no clue about his analytical capabilities nor if having those proclivities at the AAA at all matters to the organization, but if that's what the organization wants, it seems like their prerogative to find individuals who fit that bill. What is there to sue about?
  6. It seemed to me the biggest issue was that Verlander vocally said he didn't want to be traded and then only just agreed to do so at the literal last minute; to the team that was already the hands-down favorite to win the WS no less. I might think team's weren't falling over themselves to get him only because it had been made clear to them by Verlander or Detroit that it wasn't going to happen. Not that some teams might not have been turned off by him as a pitcher also.
  7. Would that many people be involved though? I can’t imagine they need a whole division to order baseballs. I picture George Costanza who reports to some one else who has additional duties (that’d be Mr.Wilhelm obviously). No idea if this un-juiced ball theory has anything behind it, but it would seem like a 2-3 person conspiracy most likely.
  8. Well Ruth would probably strike out 300 times having never seen a modern slider or a 95 MPH fastball in his life. But that obviously just reinforces the same point.
  9. I thought Morton originally said he was going to retire or pitch on the East Coast so his wife would be closer to her family did he not?
  10. Obviously this won't stick, but if they didn't include Graterol, the one guy aside from Berrios who has the upside to be more than a swingman, then they're doing it wrong. Based on his usage down the stretch, I think he's already ahead of Smeltzer, Thorpe and Stewart in the pitcher hierarchy. That's assuming the front office hasn't decided to move him to the pen full time.
  11. I’d guess they’d be favorites to retain him, but I don’t think there’s a long history of teams keeping a guy who opts out their current deal. Anyway, I’d think winning it all increases those odds.
  12. In a vacuum, I’d probably cheer for the Nats to win it all. Since we’re not in a vacuum please tell me which of my two reasons they are the LAST remaining team I want to win the WS is most shallow: 1. I don’t want them to have enough steam to feel compelled to work something out with Strausburg. 2. I’ll be damned if another long suffering team who hasn’t won the WS since the Twins last did in 1991 wins it all before my Twins do.
  13. The threat of the QO is going to be one heck of a negotiating tool. It's hard to say where Odorizzi sees himself in the free agent pitching hierarchy, but after last year it should be very clear that unless he puts himself on par with Cole, it's possible his phone won't ring until June 11th if that QO is around his neck. How long has this QO system been around? 8 years maybe? The Twins finally have a player who is actually worthy of having this discussion! Hooray!
  14. True, but you can also pick up usable corner outfielders on the free agent market real cheap. If someone is willing to offer some pitching for one of ours, I'm more than fine picking up whomever next year's Avisail Garcia, Nick Markakis, Adam Jones, Cameron Maybin or Hunter Pence is and bide our time with them waiting to see if the prospects emerge.
  15. This team wasn't expected to do what they did this year, the playoff loss stunk but it didn't come close to crushing me. 2006 was really painful because they were supposed to win that year. Winning Game 1 of the ALCS in 2002 was also a pretty hard tease as then Rick Reed proceeded to get trounced in Game 2, then they lost Game 3 when Romero blew the one run lead in the bottom of the 8th and then nobody showed up for games 4 or 5. Had I been alive for the 1965 WS, surely that would have been the worst though.
  16. If Kepler bats, I might prefer he doesn’t swing.
  17. Seemed like a pretty good season to me. Usually the season doesn’t end with a game thread up to 60 pages.
  18. Good idea. What channel is the squirrel Skinamax on? We should all switch to that.
  19. Sorry, I skipped lunch and was hungry. Was it like a pet or something? Sorry about that.
  20. Well they did have to win the division to make the playoffs.
  21. I’m still not going to believe in this curse nonsense until one of these defensive BS plays happens with two outs in the bottom of the final inning and the go ahead run on base. I mean until that happens a second time this year.
  22. Arraez gets more balls above the zone called strikes than anyone.
