  1. I don't think the Twins will lose Javier and Rijo, but those are the only two I really care if they get taken. If someone wants Jax, Clay or Wiel, good for those players.
  2. Archer is and was pretty affordable in terms on contract, while he wasn't in terms of prospects. I'm all for trades when it's a better option than spending on free agents, but Pittsburgh sure finds reasons to never spend on free agents every year.
  3. He was the Baltimore's 2nd best player last year (arguably their best) and they only have 59M committed to payroll next year. I can see why the other 29 clubs didn't trade for him as they can likely pay him less than that 10M arb projection, but no way does he give the Orioles the same consideration. Not that they didn't already know it, but this will sure show the fans that they're in for another long season. Doesn't that franchise always complain about Washington encroaching into their territory? Moves like this sure won't help build the fan base.
  4. Yeah, I really like starters turned relievers 1 full year after the conversion so I was all on board to over pay for him. But I thought that was going to be something like 2 years 12M!
  5. I'm more surprised about the years than the money. With his illness knocking him out of spring training then again making him ineffective late in the year, I thought he'd get one of the 1 year + a team option deals we see given to guys who have uncertain injury concerns.
  6. I'd be more than happy to roll the dice on him, I love the idea of grabbing bounce back candidates, but even in the pen he probably still has below average velocity. I don't think Bundy is the guy we remember him as, he's only throwing 90-91 now. I think his ceiling is very low, which isn't ideal considering his floor is also very low.
  7. Well probably, it'll be good for his resume at least. As much as I've always liked to cheer for Pittsburgh, it's shameful how little they put into their on field talent. They are never outside of the bottom 10 in payroll, even when they were good and competing for their division. I guess they did escape the bottom ten once, when they generously bumped payroll to 19th place when they opened PNC park nearly 20 years ago. Shelton is going to have to get the most out of the least, that's for sure. I'm not sure why the other owners agree to revenue sharing when Pittsburgh pockets all of theirs.
  8. I'd trade for him, but I think that trade offer is high actually. At this point any value is almost entirely based on his status as a one time top prospect. While a 5.7M arb figure isn't pricey comparatively, it isn't cheap for a guy who typically performs as a #5 starter. While it probably wouldn't happen, I'll bet Baltimore has at least had internal discussions about non-tendering him if they don't move him.
  9. Good for him. Less good for us, I really liked that guy.
  10. Also, this deal looks about as foolish as the Lynn deal last year. If Gibson follows in the footsteps of Mike Minor and Lance Lynn their pitching coach, Julio Rangel, is going to start getting looked at as the next new pitcher whisperer.
  11. Ha, well I guess my wacky prediction was similar, not my sensible prediction. Which I suppose makes my prediction nonsense-ible? Anyway, good for Kyle.
  12. Also, looks like Pomeranz is going back to San Diego. I think many of us were hoping for him. I'd assume they'll put him in the pen, but they just traded one of their starters to Milwaukee, and I don't think much of SD's baseball acumen, I could see this deal coming together because SD told Pomeranz they'd give him another shot at the rotation if that's what he'd most prefer.
  13. This early of a signing makes me think national projections (MLBTR at least) for Gibson's free agent stock was probably too high, and at least in this case, Twins fans' perspective might have been more accurate. What's everyone's predictions? I'll go with 1 year at $8M with a $10M option for 2021. But it is the Rangers, they might have done something wacky like 3/36M.
  14. I really don't want to give Marwin a permanent position to play, I like him as a super utility player, but don't like him enough offensively to give him a corner spot. I'd still take Brock Holt though. With the expanded roster this year a 2nd super utility player with a non-negative bat sounds like a fantastic idea to me.
  15. Well there’s really only three maybe four pitchers that could be considered a big signing and there are 30 teams. I’m guessing just about everyone here would like the team to get one, but should they come up empty, isn’t it better to upgrade the offense than nothing at all? And really, it’s not an either/or scenario. They can comfortably do both.
  16. *****Moderator Note****** Stay on topic and keep it civil. Even if it's a minority of posters who are unable or unwilling to do this, they will ruin the possibility of having discussions on sensitive topics for everyone. Lots of posts have now been hidden. It doesn't necessarily mean your post crossed any lines, but it almost certainly means it contributed to steering this thread off topic.
  17. Geez, I didn't realize a 5.9 K/9 was statistically possible anymore.
  18. With the only lock being Jeter, I predict a big jump for the non-steroid-accused also-rans. I'll predict that Larry Walker misses out, but just barely maybe getting close to 70%. I'll also predict surprisingly big jumps for Rolen and Wagner, nearly approaching 50%. Vizquel is tough because the community seems pretty split on him, I'd guess he sees gains, but not as big of a jump as the others. It's been awhile so I'm a big foggy, was Andruw Jones suspected of PEDs? Seems to me he was only suspected, not actually busted so he could be a big riser as well. I also predict that I will be wrong on over 50% of these predictions because I am terrible at this kind of thing.
  19. Holy crap, is that a T-1000 wearing that jersey?! If the Twins are allowed to sign a couple of them I think we got the rotation situation solved. Ain't no one going to crowd the plate on a Terminator.
  20. I was going to ask what happened to Tony Leo but I see this one from a month and a half ago: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/35250-head-trainer-tony-leo-let-go-after-season/ Only three replies to that post so I'm guessing that one somehow flew past most folks without notice.
  21. Interesting shuffle, I would have thought they would have promoted Rudy Hernandez from assistant hitting coach and hired someone else as Hernandez's assistant. I'd like Derek Shelton to get a shot at a managerial position, but selfishly I hope we get to keep him for one more season.
  22. Excellent stuff, but I think you just gave them the usable Cliffs Notes version for free. Which is OK because the Twins might be willing to pay for Minnesota attorney’s rates, but they’d need convincing to pay LA attorney’s rates.
  23. Not at all and that’s why I’d be more than happy to keep him, but if his ceiling 3-4 WAR player I’d be ok moving him if he could net a 4-6 WAR player.
  24. Ha, yeah I like this one which comes from the land of "Wow, that's a hot take!":
  25. I like Arraez, but the guy with that swing, I think he's about already hit his ceiling. Great player and any team would be happy to have him, but without the power, and that swing is almost certainly never going to generate power, he'll never be a middle of the order bat. I'd prefer to keep him, but if he can be part of a deal to bring back a Kris Bryant? Yeah I'd do that. Anthony Rizzo would look good at 1B too. I suppose Darvish I'd do as well. I'm less of a believer in his bounce back than others around here, but I'd give him a shot.
