  1. I thought someone mentioned yesterday ( linked somewhere on MLBTR probably) that the Red Sox would (or would have to) eat about 30M, which to me sounded intriguing.
  2. I'd also like to know why he lost 1.5 MPH on his velocity last year. I might still be interested though.
  3. When Park and Falvey were listing the in-house options for the #5 spot in the rotation, Graterol wasn't even mentioned, which means someone doesn't think he's ready to be a MLB starter now, if at all. Snell is one year removed from one of the most dominant seasons in MLB history, so I'll take that bet that Graterol is not going to be better than him NEXT YEAR. Besides, I think Balazovic is going to be the better pitcher and I'd protect him by offering up Graterol. As much as I like Graterol, and I really do, he has a significantly greater chance of being the next Fernando Romero than he does Blake Snell.
  4. I'm only interested in the Rays accepting it, not if the Twins feel the sting of the loss of prospects.
  5. Also, the Marlins claim that the Rangers asking price for Nomar Mazara was high, despite the fact that all they got was the Sox #7 prospect who hasn't yet reached AA. No idea what the Twins are asking for, and I don't think Mazara is all that great, but sounds more like the Marlins are a bit full of wind.
  6. I like Alcantara's velocity and four seam/slider usage, but I'd need to know more about why he doesn't strike anyone out. If that's not something that has a clear and obvious fix to it I wouldn't be interested.
  7. I did see that Cole chose the Yankees over the Dodgers because he thought the Yankees provided the best chance to with the WS. Ouch. I guess I can see it, but aside from historical choke jobs, I'd have thought those teams were fairly close to a coin flip. Though historical choke jobs may have been a pretty big factor in the evaluation I suppose.
  8. I'd argue that Rich Hill has been better than both of those two when he's healthy. Obviously being healthy is the key, but if I had Bumgarner, Ryu or Hill to choose from to go against the Yankees or Astros for Game 1, I'd take Hill and his significantly superior ability to miss bats and avoid hits. But I'm well aware that if Rich Hill is the biggest named pitcher this team signs that this site will riot.
  9. As for Snell, I was thinking Kirilloff, Graterol, Thorpe and Celestino?
  10. I'd be in on Snell or Sale. I'm not sure that others are worth top prospects, but if other clubs insist on one for a starter that I still mostly like, I wouldn't hold on too hard to Kirilloff. The Twins have so many corner bat options at all levels and no where to put them currently. The Twins can afford to loose a gamble on a corner bat.
  11. I'd really like to get the Rays talking about Snell, but Rosario is about equal to Tommy Pham as far as salary goes, so if as reported that was their motivation, I'm not sure they're the right team. But if multiple teams are talking, Eddie likely does have more value than we'd suspect, probably hard to tell how much until we start hearing offers for Ozuna and Castellanos. And for a top starter, Eddie's probably only a piece of the puzzle. Which I'm fine with, I'm not beholden to any prospects, though there are a few I'd prefer to keep over others.
  12. If you can't be sold on Korean BBQ, you haven't had Korean BBQ.
  13. I might suspect the Dodgers are using Bumgarner to get Ryu back on more team friendly terms. With their starting pitching depth, I'd think the better pitcher would be more attractive than the healthier pitcher.
  14. I hope the team isn't spending too much time focusing on pitching if the pitching either isn't a fit or isn't interested. As much as this team needs pitching, if the top two pitchers weren't an option and the next two pitchers may prefer to not come here, I don't want them to fruitlessly make a big show about it when there is still a 3B out there who may be interested. Also, I bet the Dodgers aren't actually interested in Bumgarner, they're a pretty analytically inclined front office and Bumgarner doesn't seem to be an analytically approved pitcher. I bet they're talking to him to try to get Ryu to come back at a discount. I made a joke about it last week, but now I'd like to see the Twins try to go and overpay for Blake Snell.
  15. Right. You're still going to have to run that by your wife. Especially when the alternative to 35M a year isn't zero, it's 34M a year.
  16. I see a scenario actually. The Dodgers have been loathe to offer long term deals lately. Say they will max out at three years but a higher AAV, but Bumgarner still prefers the security of a five year deal with the Twins, maybe. But I’m not very high on Bumgarner to begin with. If he only comes for the money and resents a preferred destination didn't give him what he wanted, I’d be completely out.
  17. I don’t understand those two tweets. Bumgarner is a bit cold on Minnesota (pun!) but people close to him are saying no, Minnesota is a really cool place (I did it again!) But seriously, someone make sense of that for me, I’m lost.
  18. No idea what he wants but those no trade lists often consists of the teams he and his agent think will try to trade for him. Before the season even ended people were predicting he’d go to the Atlanta to be closer to home. Since they’re out, who knows?
  19. He doesn’t throw an off speed pitch or even really a breaking pitch, just a four seamer and a splitter. I can’t see that ever having sustained success as a starter.
  20. This story about him hacking a snake apart with an ax after it interrupted his cattle wrangling, which he started practicing because he was homesick for North Carolina makes me think it’s not us, it’s him. https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2294745-sports-illustrated-story-reveals-absurd-details-about-madison-bumgarners-life.amp.html
  21. Not Happ then I assume?
  22. If Bumgarner has to have his arm twisted to come here, pass. I was already on the fence about him, I’d prefer not to repeat the Ricky Nolasco, “I’d rather be elsewhere” fiasco. Ryu or bust for me. Also Rich Hill.
  23. Aw, thanks to Kyle for the kind sentiments. Hopefully free agents see that and look forward to coming here. Here’s hoping Gibson does so well in Texas we have a thread here in three years discussing the merits of re-signing him!
  24. I'm pretty OK with all of these actually, pending availability and cost of course.
  25. I could see the White Sox poking around since they've been tied to the other pitchers, but despite all of their bluster and fancy Chicago money, the biggest contract they've ever handed out is still Jose Abreu's original 6/68M deal. They make the Twins look like highfalutin* big rollers. *Huh, had no idea the proper spelling was as one word
