  1. I don't want a guy who hit 5 HR last year starting in the outfield.
  2. I'm also not too interested in the White Sox worst outfielder.
  3. OK, I'm over vent/laughing at the Turner/Gallo/Pollock bit. Can someone provide another quote from the article for me to roll my eyes at?
  4. Wait, were you not going to do that anyway?!?
  5. He averaged one fewer out than he did with the Reds.
  6. Tough or not, Wolfson and E Neal have provided nothing but silence. Are they still covering the Twins? Is Dan Hayes, who’s with The Athletic, all we got now?
  7. Lost in all this, what happened to our local reporters? Why aren’t we getting info on what the hell is going on via tough questions to those in charge? Seemed in past years we’d at least get some crumbs tossed our way.
  8. I doubt the Twins offered that. But with him wanting to go to NY, I doubt he’d have come here unless their deal was bigger in years and noticeably different in AAV. I won’t be surprised if we hear another team, (not the Twins) had a bigger deal in the table.
  9. Funny how overbearing mothers and creepy guys at the bar both use the same greeting.
  10. I don't think the Red Sox are really in a salary crunch situation. I think they're well under the luxury tax. I can't imagine they'd move him now only getting salary relief, which they don't need, instead of waiting until mid season in the hopes that he rebounds and can fetch them some talented prospects.
  11. Things seem to work out exactly how Atlanta likes them to work out recently. My bet is all the other teams recognize Swanson is much closer to league average than he is to Correa/Bogaerts/Turner and no one offers him the deal he wants allowing Atlanta to swoop in late and re-sign for one of those traditional home-town-discount deals they've become known for.
  12. While interested in Rodon, I would be concerned about his attitude if he didn't actually want to be here. I like a grumpy bulldog on the mound, but they have not worked out well when they wanted to be elsewhere. And guys who don't smile for their profile photos so far seem to be similar in demeanor. See how much nicer these guys look!
  13. Not if he continues to hit like Kyle Farmer he won't.
  14. I want big time players, not players who just happen to have big time contracts. I didn't like Baez as a free agent last year and I certainly don't like him any more now after the season he just had. Carlos Carrasco has to be about 60-years-old doesn't he? *Most* teams aren't moving a big contract unless it's tied to a player they no longer want. The caveat to that is San Diego is likely due for a course correction in the coming future. But that future is clearly not this year. At some point they'll likely look to off load some of their big contracts even if the big contracts are still productive. I'd like to get in on that action. Until then, the Twins need to make their own fortune, not try to sort through other teams' overpriced garage sale fodder.
  15. Yeah, this is what I'm worried about. I could see them completely over-compensate because they know the optics aren't good right now. Most years, Swanson is barely average offensively, He's had an OPS+ above 100 just two out of his six full seasons. I really want little to do with him assuming he too will get a long term contract. Maybe if other teams feel the same, they can do the Correa deal from last year with him. Seven years for Rodon is crazy, but I suppose at least there's a possibility of elite upside there. And if he wants seven years, you have to know he'll get it.
  16. Yeah, they should have told Boras from the start that Correa was out of their price range and told him they wanted Bogaerts instead.
  17. Anything more than 4 years is not terribly smart for a guy with his injury history. So if you really want him, just give him the seven years he wants. There’s no negotiations with the top salaries anymore, it’s a blind auction and the minimum bid is the player’s initial asking price.
  18. The Twins were unique to other teams in that Boras needed them to stay in on Correa, even if he knew they weren't actually going to get him.
  19. With the Twins current TV deal expiring, they are probably trying to figure out how to get fans to tune in instead. The higher the viewership, the better place they'll be to negotiate. A 107M payroll isn't going to help do that.
  20. Yeah, maybe you extend Lewis or Miranda, but not after year one, and neither have done ANYTHING near what all those young Atlanta players have done. As much as I like Joe Ryan, he's too old to extend. He'll already be well past 30 when his control is over.
  21. I'm not in the lynch mob, but they failed to sign Bogaerts by not seeing through the smoke screen Boras was running. I don't know how you get involved with Boras and don't already assume he's going to try to hustle you.
  22. I'd settle for lowering the beer prices. And that has been done.
  23. As long as they're willing to DFA said contracts when needed. I don't want a guy like Aaron Hicks getting playing time over Larnach/Kirilloff/Walner.
  24. Trading for a starting pitcher would interest me. Zero interest in trading for a shortstop. Especially not one that's an even worse hitter than what the team already has. As far as free agency goes, I only wanted Correa, Bogaerts or Rodon. If Rodon's not going to happen, free agency can be over for all I care. The team can take their lumps from the fans and media as they rightly deserve.
  25. Catchers who can't hit are a dime a dozen though. If you need a 3rd catcher does it really matter who it is?
