  1. I almost asked the same question, but I'm sure it was an attempt at satire. If the POBO of a professional team publicly predicted that their team would be below .500, it wouldn't just be picked up by the local guys, it would be on ESPN and national outlets. The Twins would have no choice but to fire him on the spot if for no other reason than he cratered attendance and TV revenue three months before the season even started.
  2. I'd put good money the difference was their velocity. Ohl is topping out at 91 MPH and has a slighter build so it's unlikely there's much more to add. He's going to have to be a smoke and mirrors junkball lefty if he can't get his fastball by anyone. We've seen that work in small stretches, but after the opponents see the guy enough, usually it's lights out, game over.
  3. I personally am going to reserve the right to feel the Twins certainly could finish over .500 (again, because the AL Central is just that bad), but still be overall disappointed in just about everything the organization is doing.
  4. Great analysis. I think you should save the template but I've made minimal edits so that you can re-use it for evaluation of every other position.
  5. Yeah, it was the one reason I was open to seeing what happened with a new coaching staff. I'm not blaming the old one. but I also never once saw them get any young player to adjust successfully.
  6. Yeah, his whiff % was always low because his strikes were so largely based on being passive and watching strikes. His strong contact rates really felt like a sign that he just needed somebody to *successfully change his approach. *I know there was at least a modest attempt, but it clearly wasn't successful.
  7. Well the Cubs just signed Reese McGuire to a MiLB contract. So teams are able to sign better 2nd or 3rd catchers than Jackson AND keep them off of the roster until needed. Also still available are Jonah Heim, Elias Diaz, MJ Melendez, Austin Barnes, Tom Murphy and old friends Gary Sanchez and Christian Vazquez. All of who at this point are looking like they'll have to accept a MiLB deal, which at this time of year has to be preferable to guaranteeing a 26-man spot to Jackson. And that's not considering all the current 2nd and 3rd catchers that will inevitably lose their jobs when non-40 man catchers start making teams.
  8. Sure, sign me up for the over. New managers tend to give the team a boost, even if there's no rhyme or reason to it. But mostly, I think the "top" teams in the AL Central are frauds. I wouldn't be surprised if a .500 team wins the division this year. I'll fight any of you if you call me an optimist though!
  9. I don't know, just because the TWINS did it, doesn't mean another team would do it. The closer we get to spring, the more teams are going to consider the 26-man implications of having this guy on their team. I'd guess he doesn't pass through waivers initially because other teams would try to claim him then try to pass him through too, but ultimately, I suspect he won't be on anyone's 40 man come opening day. Your back up catcher situation would have to be really bad to hand it to him.
  10. Julien was a guy I was curious if he would benefit from a change in coaching staff. I'm not complaining about removing players from the bottom of the 40 man though. They just need to stop re-filling it with MORE bottom of the 40 man players. Either via free agent or trade, start adding to the top, or stop adding all together.
  11. Caratini hasn't caught more than 60 games since 2022, I don't think anyone views him as a primary catcher.
  12. I would also guess it's Sanders, but it's the dysfunctional Browns, they might still try to milk Watson because they don't understand sunk cost. In either case, it could make the QB job easier, but I don't know that it will help a ton with development. Seems the reads will likely just be, look for your #1 WR, then check down to the TEs. If he can handle it, Quinshon Judkins probably gets 300+ carries next year. Honestly, the Browns would have been laughed at if they had stayed in house, but Jim Schwartz should have gotten the job. For as pitiful as the Browns usually are, that defense was top notch. Maybe Schwartz will stay, but if I was him I'd look to go somewhere where I'd actually matter.
  13. So as expected, the Browns made the most uninspiring head coaching hire this off season, brining Todd Monken on board. A lot of guys pulled their names from consideration, it's the Browns, so that seems logical, but I also wonder if the Browns told the candidates that either they have to use Deshaun Watson, or they have to use Shadeur Sanders. Basically, some variation of 'We already have our starting QB on the roster and you have to coach him'.
  14. I mean this is baseball, it should go without saying that veteran players could/should/will be moved mid season if the team is looking rough. I'm not going to consider it a lie if that happens. If he were to get traded this spring? Yeah, that would be deceptive, but I don't think that's at all going to happen.
  15. Well that's obviously not true. If you do it well, it can build up your system during lean years. Hopes and dreams? You're not hoping and dreaming that Joe Ryan and Pablo Lopez can win you a championship? What are you even cheering for? But mostly it's not true because it's 100% not a modern baseball tactic, unless by modern you mean anything after Curt Flood forced free agency on the owners.
  16. Everybody should be OK with this, because Jackson is a 30-year-old journeyman. He's likely the exact same player you're going to get off of the waiver wire if you are forced to fill the hole that way.
  17. On one hand, it's hard to build a lineup of non-platoon players when you don't have the budget to do so in free agency. On the other hand, wait, nope there is no other hand because you can build a lineup of non-platoon players if you develop them yourselves, but the Catch-22 is that they won't be non-platoon players if you don't let them ever hit same-handed pitching. The Twins just completed two crappy years in a row, and during those two years when nobody was watching and nobody cared about the team anymore, the Twins still insisted on not letting the young lefties practice against MLB left handed pitching.
  18. This just looks like compounding the mistake of trading for Jackson. The best feature of a 3rd catcher is if he has options. Or even better yet, is not rostered at all and can hang out in AAA all year if unneeded. They should have acknowledged the Jackson mistake and just cut him loose now. I mean, no other team is going to want an out of options 3rd catcher, and how many teams would he even be their second catcher? He may have easily cleared waivers. They're already setting up this season for another round of roster mis-management.
  19. I'm still pretty turned off by the collection of players they got from last summer's trade off. So even if I see enticing trade scenarios floated here or elsewhere, I still think I want the Twins to stay away.
  20. Sounds like he only loves the bat if he stays at catcher. "a path to be an above-average regular if he improves the plate discipline further" probably doesn't make too many prospect lists. So this kind of does seem to be a swerve from Law's typical MO. Fine by me as I've always felt the prospect gurus significantly over-estimated what's acceptable play at the up-the-middle positions. They seem to think either you're elite defensively, or you have to move, despite the fact that 90% of MLB players that play those positions probably wouldn't be called elite.
  21. Surprised by Tait. Hasn't Law always been one that dings prospects significantly due to defensive questions? I guess either Law isn't doing that, or he doesn't have questions about Tait at catcher?
  22. Right it's a mutual option, so if Joe Ryan goes and imitates Tarik Skubal, then Ryan would decline the option.
  23. I may have been wrong about Sam Darnold. Please accept my resignation as GM of the Minnesota Vikings.
  24. And they’re still stuck with Deshaun Watson. Wouldn’t be surprised if they force the new coach to start him in order to get there moneys worth.
  25. Yeah, that's the most frustrating part of this organization right now.
