  1. I'm the same as this past offseason; I'm only interested in getting a Sonny Gray replacement to try to actually contend for a championship, I don't care about filling out the rotation just to chase another early exit playoff berth. I don't see any of those pitchers putting the Twins over the top. In past years I would have loved to have the underrated Luis Severino, but I'd need to be talked into him now. Why can't he strike anyone out any more? Zero interest in the super high contact Jose Quintana and I trust Sean Manaea about the same as I trust my dog not to bark at the Amazon delivery guy.
  2. Good for the Royal fans that this team is competitive again, but I don't see them doing anything impactful. They made a lot of offseason moves that raised some eyebrows, but the guys they got were all pretty 'meh'. Not to say some haven't played better than expected (Seth Lugo), but I don't think they'll target needle movers. More Michael Wachas and Chris Strattons may get them to the playoffs, but it won't win them anything meaningful. Though I suppose if they build enough excitement it's possible they'll recall the Dayton Moore era and put it all on the line.
  3. Kind of odd that he is the one pitcher they are letting go deep into games. Control aside, I thought with his slight frame and mostly two-pitch mix he might be fast tracked to the bullpen. It would be great if that curveball is actually a useful pitch for him and he can remain a starter.
  4. I'll let others lay out the facts about the salary impossibilities. So instead I'll just point out that Justin Verlander needed his arm twisted, and only accepted at literally the last minute to be traded from an abysmal Detroit team to Houston, who was head and shoulders the best team in the league in 2017. Even if there isn't a no-trade clause (without looking, I bet there is), I'd bet he'd be resistant to being traded. I also doubt Houston sells being only 5.5 games back.
  5. I can't see the White Sox selling low on him and I can't see the Twins taking on 20M/year salaries for him the next two years.
  6. Farmer and Margot have both started the last two games since Kepler went down. If Kepler comes back tomorrow there's probably only room for one optionable player to play every day, and looks like Martin is getting that gig now. If Kepler or someone else hits the IL, call Lee up. I'll take any excuse to get rid of these needlessly rostered underwhelming vets. Get the dead weight off the roster and start cycling through the young guys, they likely won't be worse but even if they are, Farmer and Margot aren't adding anything to this club anyway so the roster flexibility received from cutting bait with them is worth way more.
  7. They don't need him playing better than Castro, they need him playing better than Farmer. Castro's best trait is playing all over the field.
  8. I always dislike the suburban stadiums. Put them where there are other things to do. Who wants to go to strip mall restaurants and stay in hotels 45 minutes from where all the other attractions of the city are? Also, why are the Bears owners both begging for tax payer money AND saying that Chicago is the top world class city in the country? The LA and NY (New Jersey actually) teams paid for their own stadiums outside of infrastructure costs. If the Bears want to claim that Chicago is America's prime destination, then they need to act like LA and NY and foot 100% of the bill
  9. Probably 'old' is as in last year. But I agree, the team hasn't gotten enough credit for significantly addressing a big problem area from last season. My only complaint would be that Wallner or Julien perhaps could have been put to better use in a high profile trade in the offseason instead of struggling, getting demoted and losing value.
  10. I'm not sure that this is always true, but the perception is absolutely a problem. An umpire getting it wrong can and does lead to wild speculation regarding the intent. Does he hate my team? Does he hate the player? Is he on the take? Likely none of that is true, but the possibility damages the game. Unfortunately, it appears computer errors still occur, but they are less frequent and it's understood to just be a mathematical mistake. Unless it's Skynet.
  11. That moment with Frank Robinson tearfully explaining why he pulled LeCroy was heartbreaking.
  12. I do feel that WAR is overrated, but I also feel Arraez is overrated, so me and WAR are in agreement here. Arraez is a really good hitter, but you have to do more than just stand on first base to be an elite player. As for Correa, he's one of only two Twins hitters who should never come off the field so based on his production, I'm not sure why anyone would complain about him other than the team's accountant.
  13. ***Moderator Note** The only post I see that has 'triggered' anyone is yours, right here, huffy about getting responses other than the one you wanted. Any more of this condescending non-sense and this baited thread which is starting to appear to be singularly aimed to stir up contempt and arguments will be locked.
  14. Well this site is for Twins fans, so it's quite possible we have some followers. With how close to the vest the Twins front office is about information however, I'd be more than confident that creating posts relevant to the Twins is against company policy though, so anyone doing so would have to think it's worth risking their job simply to battle an internet troll. But really, how many unconditionally positive Twins posters are actually on this board? You could probably count them on one hand. I think the reality is that the posters who are vehemently negative about the team/front office/ownership lack the perception that MOST of our posters are somewhere on the scale in between. The converse is true with the few 'always sunny' fans. The vast majority of our posters find many things in which they are complementary of the team, but at the same time find many things they are willing to critique about the team. It seems to me that feeling one has to like everything or dislike everything about a team, person or topic is the biggest reason why discourse is failing in our society.
  15. Fun to revisit. I'm not surprised about the leash as the Twins could have controlled him through the end of the season with no roster or financial implications, so the only motivation to release him was having too many players for too few positions. Funny, it looks like of the top 30 picks that year (Every team's 1st pick), only seven have failed to reach the majors, which is impressive. Of those seven, Cavaco is only the second to have been released, the 1st being new Twin (minor leaguer) Ryan Jenson. Shaping up to be a pretty solid draft class with some big names taken after Cavaco. This one will surely be angsty fodder for the hindsight game.
  16. I agree the NFL is unlikely to award damages to the other teams, but they absolutely are victims. If Atlanta has already told Cousins they will give him X years and X dollars, it completely nullifies the Vikings exclusive negotiating window and takes away every bit of their leverage. In this scenario, conventional wisdom would have said the Vikings couldn't retain Cousins for less than three years, but that wasn't a guarantee and that won't be the case in every situation. Atlanta should have lost three first rounders for these three players to scare the rest of the league straight.
  17. Yeah, this was a big fat nothing of a punishment. The Vikings would probably need to prove that Cousins knew Atlanta's offer prior to free agency to have gotten any compensation. I'd hope that they'd have checked any team issued electronics issued to him to find any damning evidence, but while Cousins was too dumb not to discuss the tampering in his press conference, the suits in Atlanta were probably smart enough to only give him or his agent verbal information.
  18. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-get-wrist-slap-for-tampering-with-three-players-including-kirk-cousins Unbelievable. Atlanta only loses a 5th round pick for their rampant tampering. The last line says it all; Miami lost a 1st and a 3rd two years ago for tampering AND FAILING to get Sean Payton and Tom Brady. I wish it was easier to quit the NFL, this is the most corrupt and dishonest cartel outside of the pharmaceutical industry.
  19. No amount of defense can make up for a .485 OPS. Agree that other teams would take a chance on him if he was basically free though.
  20. He's probably the second best bat on the market next year. I'd guess those years and dollars are low.
  21. I don't see any available Pittsburgh bats that make this team better. The guys like Connor Joe and Michael Taylor are the same 'Meh or worse' kind of players the Twins already have a dozen of. Get good, middle of the order bats or promote the prospects. I'd like some of their starters, but I doubt they'd be available.
  22. I think they should pick whomever the Orioles are planning on picking at 22.
  23. Anyone make a joke about the Rockies pitcher and Chief's profile pic yet?
  24. Sorry, but color me skeptical. Three innings in St. Paul isn't a ton of work, seems like it would be the equivalent to warming up in the pen a time or two. Wouldn't it be a huge indictment on the MLB coaching staff if St. Paul fixed something that could have been done throwing a side session on some random weekday afternoon? And I don't think it's the coaches, as I said, I'm skeptical he's been 'fixed'.
