  1. No it kept them from trying Kiersey a year earlier. But it hardly matters. The Twins defensive issues pale in comparison to their offensive issues. They can't afford to give another roster spot and 300-400 PAs to a guy they know can't hit. It would be better to continue giving that roster spot and those at bats to guys that the jury is still out on. They can try multiple guys if they don't lock up this spot. This offense needs to improve, a move like this hurts that effort. I don't want any free agents in this price range, but if they absolutely feel like they must, re-signing a guy like Donovan Solano is a better option.
  2. Yeah, it was an issue. The board seemed to see the HR but missed the .278 OBP and 35% K rate. He was an offensive black hole. But everyone did notice the problems with the Margot, Vazquez and Simmons deals.
  3. But when Kiersey puts up a .620 OPS he can be optioned. The Twins will have to roster Bader all season. Everybody seems to want these glove only players in the offseason, then when they continually fail to come through when the season starts everyone wants them gone. But they just won't go away.
  4. If Cousins allows them to trade him, instead of making them cut him so he can keep his salary and choose his own team, Cousins would be foolish. And based on his long history of shrewd contract decisions, he doesn't seem foolish in this regard.
  5. Tough spot for Kirk, (not that I'm crying) as I think finding a fit next year will be tough. Here are the teams I think for sure will need a QB next year: NYJ, PIT, CLE, TEN, LVR, NYG Would the Jets go from washed up Rodgers to washed up Cousins? I don't see it. The Steelers would surely rather just keep Russell Wilson. Similar to the Jets, I don't see the Browns going from broken Watson to broken Cousins and they don't seem inclined to just eat Watson's salary. But I'll put them down as a long shot possibility because they're dysfunctional. I thought IND and CAR may be looking, but now why wouldn't they keep Richardson and Young? They may not be good, but they're better than Cousins, or at least have some upside. NO, SEA, LAR Could move on from their veteran QBs but their veteran QBs are probably all more desirable than Cousins. So that leaves TEN, LV and NYG and at this time, two of them are in line to draft Sanders and Ward. Is the one that ends the season with the best record stuck with Cousins? It's possible that team may still rather roll the dice with Justin Fields or Aaron Rodgers. Or even Daniel Jones if the perceived KOC transformation can boost his reputation in merely two months of his presence in Minnesota.
  6. The thing is though, that this era of baseball isn't filled with Jim Thomes and Cecil Fielders. Hitting the ball hard and being fast are nowhere close to mutually exclusive anymore. Last I checked Aaron Judge is still playing CF and Shohei Ohtani is stealing 50 bases. The guys who hit the ball hard tend to be the best athletes, and the best athletes also tend to be fast. Just not on this team for some reason.
  7. I don't think I've seen a screen pass or a swing pass to a RB go for more than three yards since Dalvin Cook was here.
  8. WT hell, so is the Bears GM? Guys, you’re on TV.
  9. Is the Bears coach chewing gum while wearing a headset?!? If I had to listen to that, Id be playing like Williams too.
  10. 4th Q in the other game and neither team's QB is over 100 yards passing. How did that game make prime time?
  11. Yeah, big mystery, I wonder if they hire an offensive or defensive minded coach next year..........
  12. I don’t remember Swift being able to carry defenders five yards after contact before.
  13. Wow, poor timing on that take....
  14. They've hardly used Nailor recently, so they might as well just stick with two TE sets to help out the tackles now. Oliver and Mundt have been capable pass catchers when they absolutely need them to be.
  15. Seems pretty unimportant. I wear sweatpants and tshirts. Sometimes my wife makes me put on a nicer shirt and jeans if we go out.
  16. What was Hockenson doing on that pick? Replay looks like he catches that easy if he’s looking at the pass. Looked like he was trying to block.
  17. No. As long as it doesn't impact their play, they could wear top hats and speedos for all I care.
  18. I'd like to hear more of Joe's resume but my guess has been that Jim didn't want to run the team anymore so they decided to explore selling and gave the keys to the youngster to play around with it before the family was done with the team. As to St. Peter, I can't imagine he ever knew much about business. He was hired as a kid out of college and has zero work experience outside of the Twins. I mean if he ever actually was learning about TV deals, marketing or fan engagement, it would have been from some old-timer back in the 1990s. Not exactly a relevant period to today's strategies. I envision his sage advice something like:
  19. The only two businesses I've heard disclosed that Joe Pohlad was given to run were two different radio stations. Which he promptly ran into the ground and the family had to sell at a giant loss.
  20. The NBA also has salary caps and salary floors and they are only 14M apart. Spending that extra 14M to try to make the team more exciting is probably worth the investment when trying to sell. The Twins on the other hand would have to spend 100-140M to reach the top tier of their league. If they aren't willing to spend in that range, they're probably more likely to appeal to new buyers with glowing cashflow instead of an exciting product. That was not an endorsement.
  21. I don't like Gilmore being out with a QB who can buy time with his legs. The Vikings need to get to the QB better than they did last game against Atlanta.
  22. In either case, it would be nice if this team could put down a few more references when it comes to former Japanese players. Or Cuban players.
  23. I wouldn't say he sounded happy, but he sounded defensive and backed up the last player and downplayed the intent when he clearly tried to injure Lawrence. I hope he doesn't do that again, but I'm guessing he'll continue to back his players and frame it to the team as an 'us against the world' kind of thing.
  24. I like DeMeco Ryans, but his team is starting to give off Sean Peyton vibes. His reaction after his LB knocked our Trevor Lawrence two weeks ago was not at all reassuring. I hope his responses are better this week because he'll get some tough questions.
  25. Yeah, sounds like bad news for their offense, but they might get a hidden benefit from that as Gibbs is so much better of a running back. I think he's the most dynamic rusher with the ball in his hands in the league right now. They might be better giving him more carries anyway. Of course the downside of giving him more carries is a higher risk of injury, which is the trend they're dealing with. Or maybe just the added workload wears him down by the end of the game.
