That's absolutely not true. Most fans of other pro sports clubs DO NOT like their local ownership groups. I know we like to think we are specially cursed here, but this isn't a Minnesota thing.

I think someone mentioned Kevin Seitzer for hitting coach, and now he's available. No idea if he's any good, or what his hitting philosophy is, but Atlanta swung some pretty good bats prior to this year.

Yeah long term. And someone dropping 1.5B is probably going to want decent yearly dividends short term. Those yearly dividends seem to be shrinking without the cable deals.

Tough situation. They have a bad stadium in a less desirable location now in disrepair. Normally it would seem like a time people would rally to build something sustainable. But how do you sell tax-payer funded stadiums when lots of the tax payers lost their homes and tax dollars are needed to repair the whole metro and state?

Yeah, my lack of enthusiasm isn't out of fear, it's due to the fact that we're still going to have a billionaire owner of a mid-market team either way; my franchise outlook is largely unchanged.

Yeah, but without cable TV rights, are all MLB teams going to continue to appreciate like they have the last four decades? If half the league ends up on MLB.TV while other teams have significantly more profitable TV deals, I'd be concerned that the have-nots are going to start decreasing in value. As more and more of the better talent flocks to the big markets where the money is, won't the MLB.TV markets lose more and more viewers?

If I recall, he also made comments about how the community had a vested interest in the Twins and it would have been too damaging to allow contraction. Not sure that would have held up on appeal.

Makes sense. The second generation gets to watch what the first generation built and probably takes some pride in that. Sorry to work in generalizations and be a bit negative here, but it's probably hard for the third generation to avoid a sense of entitlement and ennui since it's all they ever knew. And as I've said several times, Jim Pohlad was by far my favorite Pohlad. Low bar, I know. -

Yup. Pretty obvious now that the 'Right-sizing payroll' comments weren't aimed at fans but aimed at potential buyers. Also, probably the least qualified Pohlad was put in charge. Which maybe means he wasn't actually put in charge, but none of the others felt like running it any longer. -

Forget about paying MLB.TV $20 a month to watch the Twins, Amazon Prime would be paying US FANS for the right to stream Twins games. OK, next. I doubt they WOULD stipulate that, I doubt the league would LET them stipulate that, but I doubt even less that they would move. -
That would be great, but pretty sure no one would let that happen. Then again, you'd probably have plenty of tax payers protesting for the payroll to be about 1M total.

Agree. That would be great, but I'm just skeptical. I don't want an ego, those types seem to meddle even when they don't have the skill or knowledge to do so.

John Fisher bought the A's in 2005 and ran them into the ground so he could move them in 2025. That was 15 years. Also, come 2040, Target Field will be as old as the Metrodome was when the Twins left it. However, I see very little chance the Twins are moving in 2040 as relocation is MLB's biggest threat to get new stadiums. The other owners aren't going to let the new guys in the club jump in line and steal their best leverage to improve the stadiums that actually are outdated. The Coliseum in Oakland was already a terrible stadium in 2005, and like the Coliseum, the Metrodome was ALWAYS a cut-rate stadium that didn't match up to it's peer venues. Target Field still ranks as one of the best in the league.

Well I thought the idea was that the status quo wasn't acceptable. Now were happy with new owners doing the same thing the Pohalds do?

The Marlins went from a 115M opening day payroll in 2017, sold in 2018 and haven't had an opening day payroll over 100M since. They've been a bottom ten payroll team every year, and a bottom five payroll team all but two of those years.

Probably doesn't matter either way, but with a local buyer, you at least have an outside chance that the person would actually be a Twins fan and motivated to go all out for his or her life-long favorite team.

I feel really guilty, because I REALLY dislike the Pohlads. But it's hard to get away from the feeling that we could be Eastern Europe being liberated from the Nazis by Joseph Stalin.
