Ugh, not happy Cleveland got out from under one of their poor decisions. That upcoming contract looks really, really bad for a glove only (mostly) 2B.

Right, but that's due to some NBA clubs being better run than others. Market size has much less impact in that league.

The bottom feeders are going to continue to get worse and worse TV deals with the worse and worse teams they continue to field due to the inequity. At a certain point, these owners who always say that they aren't profiting will actually be telling the truth if they continue down this path. Billionaires don't keep or buy unprofitable businesses, they liquidate them to their competitors. -
You don't have to break them, just make it worth their while. As much as they say "no' right now, establishing a firm salary floor within say, 30M of the cap should get them to the table. If not, the inevitable threat of contraction will.

QB pay sucks right now, but the one good thing in this situation is that it basically escalates based on timing more so than actual play. So even if he's MVP in 2025, he's probably getting about the same deal anyway (and if he stinks or just average, you say goodbye). Jackson is the 8th highest paid QB, Mahomes is 12th and Allen is 14th; as designed, it's not based on merit. So, if there's still some question, I think the best move would be to franchise tag him and if he proves to be an elite QB, then do the deal the following year in 2026. Based on the past trends, it will be about 5M per year more than it would have been in 2025, I can live with that as it will still basically be market rate and you'd have that extra year of evaluation to see if he's legit or a fluke. After all, if they turned the keys to McCarthy, he'd already be looking at a new deal in 2027 anyway.

I wouldn't say no, but I'll say the same thing when this came up with Kyle Gibson: based on his age, Ober will already be in Minnesota about exactly as long as I'd like him to be here. As much as I love Ober, and have no interest in trading him, I'm not sure I want to lock in a starting pitcher for his age 32+ seasons unless he's an all-time great.

Payroll flexibility is almost pointless in today's game. The only good free agents cost too much. There's no point in paying for a Gallo, Margot or Archer when the in house options are a fraction of the price and just as (un)productive.

I'm not sure Correa would even want to go there. Maybe, he is a competitor after all, but he was dealing with a lot of baggage leaving Houston and landing in the cozy and unchallenging media market of MN (that was not a positive endorsement) may be what he likes.

With no real veteran WRs I thought he'd be a good fit for NE, but he's pretty strictly a slot guy and so is Demario Douglas. Ja'Lynn Polk probably should be as well. The fact that he couldn't beat out Douglas tells me he's not as good as him, but as is the case, I'm not surprised about Osborn's lack of usage.

Agreed. I think the QBs that CAN carry a team to a championship improvise, redirect routes and flat out defy the play calls once in a while. Not just going to the prescribed audibles but actually winging it from time to time. I think Darnold was doing some of that last game too, but it's hard to tell.

So then you lose your RF (who was god awful anyway) 1B AND SS and have to fill them with 7-10M free agents or trade targets, which this team has about a 10% success rate with? I think the ONLY paths to a better record are for the young guys to improve or for the team to spend more money, and the second one isn't happening. But again, this is a lame duck season, the outgoing bosses should not be making decisions that will impact this team long term.

The Patriots released KJ Osborne in a 'mutual decision'. I'll guess he gets claimed as he's far from the worst WR available out there, but would the Vikings eye him for a reunion? He's better than Brandon Powell, however, Powell is the punt returner. Though he's not a terribly good one, the Vikings have the 2nd worst punt return average in the league.

I'm torn. All I've wanted since 2009 is to have a top tier QB to give this team the best shot at a championship. Cousins was really good but was missing that gun-slinging, neck-stomping factor. I'm not sure Darnold has that either, but I'm also not sure that he doesn't. Thankfully we should be able to wait until after the season to decide. The playoffs usually give you a great feel if the QB has that 'IT' factor.

The only reason you'd have to trade Correa is because you can't handle sitting still this offseason. It won't make the team better in 2025 and I absolutely don't want a lame duck owner and front office group making decisions on prospects that next group has to live with.

And I think it's less than that for some major studio movies, and some of those studios make them guarantee that they'll show the film on x amount of screens for x amount of weeks, which would cause them to lose money on the movie itself.

I used to go to more, but I'm down to about two games a year. Kids are tough! They don't need to market to me though, and I don't need the small-town, homespun marketing that they seem to think is right up the alley of ma and pa in the sticks. They should be marketing to the "What should we do tonight?" crowd that can make a game work on more than just weekends and don't have to plan for traffic.

I'd rather have Ober than Casas by a country mile. I'd guess Casas would be compelled to slide to a full time DH role before too long and he looks like a 25-30 HR guy, not a 30-40 HR guy. Also, his K% went from 26% to 31% last year. That has to be a sizable red flag. In the end, I'd bet the difference between Casas and Miranda is significantly smaller than the difference between Ober and whomever replaces him.

The North Loop has some of the best places to eat in the state; it's an easy decision to pregame at the dozens of options in the neighborhood. And hopefully new ownership will realize that the most attractive spot in the state, with the highest density population in the state is in their backyard. Why they don't market to the walkable crowd who already pay high end urban prices for food and services, instead of out-staters who no longer travel to games like they used to is a mind-blowingly shortsighted marketing blunder.

Yeah, if there are studies, it's the billionaires who have commissioned them, and solely to see where they can gauge fans. And I think the movie theaters took the queue from the pro sports venues. As a kid I remember Metrodome concessions being on the pricey side, while movie theater popcorn and soda at the local college games were pretty cheap. Now those types of venues have more than embraced the pro-sports captive audience model.
