  1. I know in '07 the Twins pulled some of the same crap on Matt Garza that they are doing to Jose Berrios now. Next we will hear that Berrios has morphed into a club house cancer and needs to be moved. BTW, if this was Kohl Stewart pitching not Jose Berrios the Twins would be all to happy to let Stewart take his lumps even though he will never put up the k numbers Berrios will. The Twins have been super aggressive in promoting Stewart, while Berrios pushed his way up to AAA ball the Twins have been over conservative in his development from AAA to the majors. Also, how is it that Tyler Duffey can fail time and again with no action taken against him yet Berrios is given 4 starts and fails and gets BANISHED to AAA with no time table for his permanent return?
  2. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/baseball/2016/07/22/berrios-continues-show-wings-hes-show-worthy/87458062/ It's just my opinion this is what the Twins think, but from this article it almost sounds like every pitch Berrios throws needs to be perfect in order for him to be promoted. I hope I am wrong, but with this organization I can see the Twins holding Berrios back especially since his first stint didn't go so well.
  3. Last I read even after his last great start the Twins FO is still not impressed with Berrios as they keep grasping for straws to why he is not up yet. Berrios should have been up a week ago to all but cement his place in the 2017 rotation. At this rate he won't be on the team for good until May of 2017, as I am doubting the Twins will put him on the opening day roster. I don't get why it is taking so long to bring Berrios back. It's pathetic and makes the Twins FO look like imbeciles for holding Berrios out so long and giving him a mere 4 start audition. Doesn't seem the Twins view him in the same light as Sano or Buxton.
  4. Wow, Gonsalves just keeps on rolling. His ERA now is 2.97 (I think) in AA ball. That is very impressive considering this is only his 5th start in Chattanooga. And now he is really cutting down on his walks. It will be interesting to see where he starts next year, especially if he keeps pitching like this. To pitch this well so soon coming from advanced A ball AND increase the k/9 inning rate is certainly impressive. If he keeps this up, we may see him sooner than Kohl Stewart. And who would have thought that.
  5. I'm happy that Jim Pohlad actually fired Ryan. Honestly the results of Terry Ryan's work since coming back has been poor. It's time for a fresh new voice to take control. As far as Rob Antony, I sure hopes Pohlad has Antony's job as a trial run as GM. If Antony's performance is worthy of him being the GM, then great he can stay. If Antony fails like Bill Smith or Terry Ryan part 2 then at the end of the year he needs to be canned. Problem is, even if the Twins let go of Rob Antony who's to say the Twins FO won't do something dumb like hiring former manager Ron Gardenhire as GM?
  6. It's time to bring up Berrios. By pitching as well as he did last night he proved the start before was more or less a fluke. I mean it is the second half of the season and the Twins aren't in any play-off race, so why not let the youngster go? Also, another solid start for Fernando Romero. He has now started 5 games a piece for Ceder Rapids and Ft Myers and has very similar stat lines in terms of innings pitched, walks, and strike outs. His ERA is a little higher in Ft Myers but not by too much (2.17 Ft Myers, 1.93 Ceder Rapids), and his opponents batting average against and hits are a little higher in Ft Myers, but both are still real good. Provided Romero stays healthy and gets a chance to perfect his craft, I think he could be real good. Romero has been a really good story line in the Minors this year.
  7. Wells seems like a very intreguing prospect, especially because he has gotten bigger and stronger this year. Wells sounds like Lewis Thorpe minus a few mph on the fastball, no slider, but with better command and control of his pitches (I think he has 4 walks in 21 innings). Wells at any rate is impressive with his 1.27 ERA in A ball all at the age of 19. It's good to see a possibly good pitching prospect in A ball since the rest of the real good starting pitching prospects are in A+ ball through AAA ball.
  8. Thanks for informing me on what happens when a player is removed from the 40 man. Somebody else might find use in Rosario, I just honestly think we don't need him, especially if he takes a 40 man spot away from Jorge or Romero (they have real upside IMO).
  9. I guess it depends on if the Twins need to make a spot on the 40 man for Fernando Romero and Felix Jorge and Rosario is blocking either of them. To me both Romero and Jorge have a much higher upside than Rosario and it would be better to lose Rosario in the Rule 5 rather than Romero or Jorge.
  10. More recently Jose Berrios has been very good in the minors, Kyle Gibson was a great minor leaguer as well. Scott Baker while a so-so starter in the majors (even before Tommy John) was great in the minors, Kevin Slowey was lights out in the minors and even if you took away his injuries he was only mediocre (ERA even when healthy was over 4 in the majors).
  11. If Berrios isn't up by the end of July then there is something wrong with the front office. Berrios is just as good as Milone and Nolasco right now. Continuing to trot out Milone and Nolasco in the rotation prove as much that the Twins (much less Terry Ryan) don't care about winning.
  12. Apparently the Twins feel they have the right pitchers in the organization and no longer feel the need to draft more starting pitching. While I feel we have good pitchers who could be frontline starters (#1 or 2 types) in Jose Berrios, Stephen Gonsalves, Tyler Jay, Kohl Stewart, Felix Jorge, Fernando Romero, and maybe Lewis Thorpe there is no guarantee any of these pitchers will pan out. After those pitchers are Randy LaBlanc, Sam Clay, and Lachlan Wells. It just feels like we don't have as much pitching depth through out the system as we should have. My second point is we ha have good development in the minors, but once they are in the majors our pitching coaching staff is subpar. I mean I view Jose Berrios is as good as it gets for a pitching prospect, and yet he struggled (which is to be expected) and for a pitcher known to make quick adjustments to get himself to be successful at what ever level he is in seemed lost at the Majors and all it seemed is the Twins coaching staff blamed him for his poor performance and did very little to help correct the issues plaguing Berrios. If that is true then how could any prospect prosper here if the coaching staff doesn't work with these young pitchers to be successful?
  13. I can see where you are coming from. I know one of Gonsalves' strengths is his adaptability pitching wise. It defiantly looks like he has made huge strides improving his pitching arsonal (especially improving his breaking balls).
  14. Of all the starter's k/9inning rates I am most impressed with Stephen Gonsalves. His 9.0 K/9 in Ft Myers was somewhat expected considering it was his second time through in Ft Myers. But if my calculations are correct Gonsalves' k rate has jumped to 13.4k/9 in Chattanooga (30 k's 20.2 innings pitched). That's crazy, especially when I still remember in 2014 Jose Berrios' k/9 rate fell dramatically when he transitioned from A+ ball to AA ball.
  15. I also saw on MLB.com that Stephen Gonsalves was the minors top performer last night. There was a nice write up about his performance last night.http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/189469964/stephen-gonsalves-among-top-prospects-tuesday/
  16. Great start for Gonsalves. Most importantly no walks and now sports a nice 3.49 ERA. I have always liked Gonsalves, but with how he has pitched overall (especially his k numbers since being promoted) I have to think Gonsalves is as legit of a pro prospect as Jose Berrios, Kohl Stewart, and Tyler Jay.
  17. I think a .500 record saves Ryan's job, sadly. This is the Minnesota Twins after all. Jim Pohlad should pull the plug on Terry Ryan regardless, but he won't if the Twins play better as Pohlad likes to keep the same "status quo" his dad Carl did for years. There is a reason the Twins FO is known as "the good ole boys club".
  18. 38 wins or around a .500 record. That is providing either Nolasco or Milone is gone before August and Berrios is brought back and given a more proper audition into the rotation. I believe Berrios will thrive, provided the Twins coaching staff can coach up Berrios and help guide him through this season.
  19. Unless the Twins rid themselves of Tommy Milone and Rickey Nolasco and bring up Berrios things won't be better for the Twins. I do see the youngsters are really starting to contribute offensively, but until the weak links in the rotation are let go, it will be the same old in the second half of the season.
  20. I am not concerned as much for Kohl Stewart or Stephen Gonsalves if they struggle a bit. AA ball is considerably tougher than A+ ball. I'm sure both guys will start in Chattanooga next year and be far better than what they show this year.
  21. I just read the recap of last nights game, and it said Sam Clay is starting tonight's game. I would have thought it would be Romero's turn in the rotation, but it isn't.
  22. It won't be that late, unless Berrios forgets everything that has been working for him.
  23. Wierd that Tyler Jay is slated to start in Ft Myers even though he just was promoted to Chattanooga. Too bad for Berrios. Since this start didn't go so well, I'd have to assume the Twins will keep Berrios down for at least another 2-3 starts since his control and command were off. Not that I am complaining as I want Berrios up when he is truly ready for the Majors.
  24. Hopefully tonight will be Berrios' last start in Rochester. He has been impressive lately especially showing the command and control we have come to expect from him. The only thing I have concern with (and it is just a little concern) Berrios is his shrinking k numbers in his last two starts. Again it is right now a minor concern for me.
