  1. I really think there's something special with Gonsalves. He should be going through some "growing pains" in AA but with a 2.79 ERA and a K rate of 10 k per 9 that tells me he transitioned quite well and maybe is more than what scouts originally thought. Also Gonsalves does not give up very many home runs or hits for that matter. I look forward to see him up sometime in 2017, and by then I'd assume he will have worked more on his control as well.
  2. Nice trade. I know I don't want to jump to any conclusions or simply give Antony the job but he has made some good trades and this one I feel is great. Giving up Nolasco and Meyer for a solid proven MLB starter in Santiago is a great trade. Heck moving Nolasco for an even better pitcher is a feat in and of its self.
  3. Milone and Plouffe are the two I would suppose would be gone on waivers. Just makes sense to get rid of the weakest links first.
  4. Kepler has become one of my favorite Twins. He just keeps improving. Even if he has a sophomore slump next year guys like Rosario, Sano, and possibly Buxton should take some of the pressure off of Kepler next year.
  5. Well, I mean he did give up a double and 3 hits and 3 runs in the first inning. Thats what I meant. But Berrios impressed me.
  6. Very encouraging start for Berrios. Yes, he got hit hard in the 1st inning but after that gave up 1 hit in his final 5 innings plus no runs. I also like that he showed better control with 0 walks in his 6 innings of work.
  7. If he is more consistent with better control I'd think it would have to be a real possibility. Gonsalves doesn't seem to be struggling terribly like other prospects do when they transition from A+ ball to AA ball. Plus it looks like Fernando Romero might be ready to start in AA next year. So Romero can take Gonsalves' vacated rotation spot in Chattanooga. Just my opinion.
  8. Ok, that was what MLB.com said. They might be behind in updating his height and weight. I still think he is intreguing at the least. Only 19 and through 6 A ball starts owning a 1.57 ERA is pretty good. Perhaps he'll look like a better prospect after the season is over and the scouts get more of a chance to scout him.
  9. Berrios wasn't cut any slack after 4 starts. Yes his last start was horrible but over all he pitched just like a rookie. Duffey and Berrios were drafted in the same year with Berrios being a 1st round pick and Duffey being a 5th round pick. This also isn't the first string of rough starts Duffey has had, he had a 5 (or was it 6) start stretch where he posted an ERA over 8 over those starts. I just think the Twins have to give Berrios every opportunity to succeed just like they do for Duffey.
  10. I didn't mean it to make fun of Milone or Wells. Sorry if it came out that way. I was only stating that because even in reading his scouting report it doesn't sound that they are too excited about Wells. Honestly I like to be over optimistic when a prospect does well that they will do well in the majors. But, for Wells to be successful at his listed height (5'8"), I can see that plus his lack of fastball, average change and curve as something against Wells as a good prospect.
  11. I am also a little surprised Lachlan Wells (who was #28) dropped out of the top 30 despite a 1.57 ERA, a healthy k rate, and a great walk rate. Only thing I guess is MLB.com sees shades of Tommy Milone and Liam Hendricks in Wells.
  12. Agreed about Wade and Jorge. I have no idea why Wade is still ranked so low despite his productive season. As for Jorge, my best guess is those who do the MLB.com prospect ratings still might be focusing more on Jorge's disastrous first attempt at A ball and don't see him really improving since that season. Not that I am a scout or anything like that. Just my wild guess.
  13. Good to see Fernando Romero get some love for his great comeback season. He moved up 7 spots and I could see him as a top 5 prospect by next year if he continues to pitch well, as I'm sure he will also move up with his potential looking even better as well.
  14. Are the Twins still trying to have Kohl Stewart be a sinker ball pitcher still. Honestly I can't foresee Stewart being really good with his k rate being so bad here in Chattanooga. I have herd the past few years the Twins have been insistent that Stewart use his low 90's sinker as his out pitch. To me, I thought when Stewart was drafted he was drafted to be a power pitcher, not a sinker pitcher more reliant on his defense making plays rather than getting a k when needed. I don't really see Stewart being a top of the rotation guy when he has a hard time keeping his k rate at a respectable level, plus while he has slightly better control than Stephen Gonsalves his walk rate isn't that much better than Gonsalves rate. I just wish I could see the Kohl Stewart we drafted as the 4th pick of the 2013 draft.
  15. Honestly though, watching Berrios' development reminds me how the Twins handled Matt Garza in 2007. That spring training in '07 Garza clearly out performed Carlos Silva, a #5 type starter who had a horrendous spring training, yet won the #5 spot instead of Garza. The Twins threw out the same bogus quotes on what Garza needed to improve on and quite frankly I believe it was the Twins who ruined Garza, not the other way around. The Twins were more than happy to paint Garza as a cancer, and yet not help develop him even though at that time Garza's ceiling in '07 by most MLB scouts was that of an ace. I just see right now the Twins screwing over Berrios with these dumb expectations of him. I just hope the Twins don't ruin Berrios' personality, because I like Berrios not just for his talent alone, but for his competitive nature, humility, and work ethic.
  16. Cosidering the options coming up by next year in the minors, and the Twins using Duff to block Berrios or May this year unless he is going to the bullpen I wouldn't be too committed to keeping him for 2017. Duffey in reality is a 2 pitch pitcher with his "2nd" pitch being an average at best fastball that clocks around 90 with no real movement. Sounds like a back end to bully type of pitcher to me. I mean when you have guys like Berrios, May, Gonsalves, Jay, Stewart, Romero, and Jorge waiting in the wings a pitcher like Duffey is expendable and NOT NEEDED on a Twins team like this.
  17. That might be the funniest things I've read in a while. I get the sarcasm...just made me laugh.
  18. Well, Berrios didn't pitch well enough for a promotion last night. He had one of those "big innings" with resulted in 3 runs, 2 hits, and 2 walks. Just stating the company line here.
  19. When Duffey's MLB comparison was a poor man's Scott Baker the Twins should have known Duffey wouldn't amount to much. Baker was at best a low end #2, but mostly a #3 starter, mediocre at best. A poor man's Scott Baker would equal out to a #4 or 5 starter, something the Twins don't need with the likes of Stewart, Gonsalves, Romero, and Thorpe down the road in the minors. Most see Berrios as a strong #2 with low end ace possibilities.
  20. Well in Duffey's last 3 starts his ERA is 10.15...just as bad as Berrios' 10.20 ERA in 4 starts. Honestly regarding Duffey, I think he has been found out and really is not that good, yet the Twins hinge their hopes that Duffey will be a big part of the rotation in the future. Then again...Berrios had a sub-par day yesterday...he had that one inning he's not allowed to have and was part of the reason Rochester lost yesterday. I mean if Berrios can't pitch a perfect game in AAA ball what's the use in calling him up now? (I was being a bit sarcastic about Berrios, just saying)
  21. I guess the bigger question about Lachlan Wells is, will Wells be a Tommy Milone clone or a Lewis Thorpe clone. Wells has done great so far in A ball, but I have a hard time being over excited in him as a prospect with reports of his lack size.
  22. Which is why I am upset Nolasco and Milone are taking up a starting spot Berrios should already have. Nolasco should have been gone at least a year ago, this is his final year on his contract and there is no reason not to dfa him by now. Milone as well. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised to see Berrios come up as a September call up. Pathetic the Twins want Berrios to be damn near perfect, while Tyler Duffey can do no wrong, even if he goes through a 5-6 start stretch with an ERA over 9 and not be demoted.
  23. Nice start for Wells. He seems like an interesting prospect. Doesn't seem tall or big with an upper 80's to low 90's fastball, good change, and a decent curve. He is only 19, so I think he could improve some over the next few years. I just wonder how much of a ceiling he realistically has. A 1.57 ERA is impressive and his first 6 starts in Ceder Rapids look much better than Thorpe's first 6 starts in Ceder Rapids in 2014.
  24. Not only that, but both Berrios and Duffey were drafted in the same year. So, if Berrios is seen has a much better prospect, then why does Duffey get so much slack. Seems to me the Twins like Duffey a whole lot more than Berrios.
  25. I'm guessing Quade and Steil are being fed this line by the Twins FO. It seems to me Quade believes that Berrios should be up now but this is what excuse the Twins give him why they won't call up Berrios.
