  1. How do you prep differently for a shorter career?
  2. We are debating. You think that failure to foresee the future performance of acquistions is a failure that only baseball executives could experience. I think that we all would suffer the same failures while making the same decisions. That is our debate.
  3. Football players only play in the field? Hey, what? Baseball players don't have to shed 320 lb. blockers and tackle or cover 220 lb. world class sprinters. But hey, athletes like Jon Kruk, Bartolo Colon and David Wells occasionally have to bat which could cause bilateral brain weakness. Anyone who thinks playing outfield is as strenuous as playing outside linebacker has never played either.
  4. All evidence also indicates their judgement was good enough to get them baseball employment. Otherwise they would have been blog posters.
  5. 16 games times sixty defensive plays per game = 960 times per season. 162 games times TWO chances per game = 234 chances per season. Please don't tell me how strenuous it was for Torii Hunter in RF compared to Anthony Barr at OLB. Do you think Hunter can play NFL OLB at age 39? Apparently he could play MLB RF.
  6. Santana was a good enough CF to keep Aaron Hicks in Rochester, so I'll go with the Twins evaluation of Santana's outfield abilities, while you can go with your own.
  7. Barr, Anthony LB 6-5 255.....As a larger framed person, Barr covers running backs and slot receivers in man coverage. Anyone who thinks that is easier than playing outfield in MLB, hasn't got a clue!
  8. Bad OF don't end up in CF.
  9. Read somewhere that Zach Jones was suffering some physical issues and may start the season on the DL. If so, there is a limit on how long he can be protected on the DL and when that limit is reached, the Brewers may want to return him to the Twins.
  10. ROSTER NON-ROSTER ROSTER NON-ROSTER CATCHERS PITCHERS SUZUKI CENTENO E.SANTANA ABAD MURPHY PAULINO GIBSON BOSHERS HICKS HUGHES DARNELL DUFFEY KINZLER INFIELDERS MILONE RUNZLER MAUER BERESFORD PERKINS DOZIER BRITTON JEPSEN ESCOBAR TOVAR MAY PLOUFFE FIEN PARK NOLASCO NUNEZ GRAHAM PRESSLEY OUTFIELDERS O'ROARKE ROSARIO MASTRIONNI ROGERS BUXTON QUINTON TONKIN SANO SWEENEY D.SANTANA ARCIA
  11. If that fails, Morneau to the Wild to replace Devan Dubnyk.
  12. The antithesis is that spring training performances prove very little, except that Aaron Hicks would be an All-Star centerfielder in 2013. Better to start the season with proven players on the Twins and prospects proving themselves ready at AAA and AA.
  13. The Twins have no room for Byung Ho Canada!
  14. Ortiz=Arcia?
  15. Temporarily holding on to SEVEN catchers must have been necessary to bullpen the 24 pitchers in camp. Once the decisions are made on which pitchers to keep, Turner, Garver and Paulino will be shipped out along with the excess pitchers.
  16. Pitchers Yorman Landa, Mason Melotakis, and Randy Rosario plus outfielder Adam Brett Walker are all on the 40-man-roster, and will likely remain there when they are soon transferred to minor league camp. Non-roster players also likely to be sent to minor league camp soon are catchers Stuart Turner, Mitch Garver, Carlos Paulino and infielder Wilfredo Tovar.
  17. I think he meant that: Rogers may be reassigned to the Minor League Camp, NOT that he would be removed from the 40-man-roster.
  18. Asked and answered. Swim, Meneses, Rodriguez, Vielma and Reed.
  19. What time today do the Twins announce their first Spring Training transfers to Minor League Camp?
  20. Send Ricky to the bullpen! Maybe he will buy out his own contract in order to escape. Then the Twins will be off the hook.
  21. I remember when the entire 2012 draft was considered one of the weakest in recent memory by experts. The ACTUAL QUOTE "The 2000 draft "is maybe the most comparable draft to this one," according to Mike Radcliff, Twins vice president of player personnel and the scouting director in 2000. It was considered one of the weakest in recent history" The 2000 draft was so characterized by Radcliff (experts?), not the 2012 draft headed by Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton, Mark Appel, etc.
  22. From MLBTR: "Twins righty Ricky Nolasco believes he should remain in the club’s rotation, agent Matt Sosnick tells Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN (Twitter link). Referencing last year’s disappointing, injury-filled campaign, Sosnick suggests that his client “deserves to show the Twins what he looks like without trying to pitch through pain.” If Nolasco is pushed to the pen, says Sosnick, he’d approach the front office to “directly address his feelings of disappointment” and “ask the team about his other options.”" Another option could be Nolasco buys out his own contract, lets the Twins off the hook and becomes a free agent.
  23. My guess at the first transfers to minor league camp would be: P. Landa, Melotakis, Reed and Rosario C. Swim, Turner, Garver and Paulino IF. Meneses, Rodriguez, Tovar and Vielma OF. Walker
  24. Thanks. It's always informative to learn the thinking/justification for the cuts.
