  1. It was a LaMarre is 2 for 40 in his career joke. The nickname just came to me in a vision.
  2. All he needs to do is hit 3 out of 40 and he'll be better than the Sultan of Swing (and miss).
  3. Here's hoping the starters never need a day off because this bench is absolutely brutal.
  4. Did you hear he tweaked his swing? Just wait until he's more comfortable with it ... I'd say .845 isn't out of reach.
  5. The difference between Martinez and LaMarre is that Martinez had a track record of success in both the majors and minors before making a tweak that took him from very good to MVP level. As for Morrison, I think the jury is still out as to whether his changes will result in sustained success or if it was a 1-year thing. I'm hopeful it's the former, but it could just as easily be the latter. But again, at least at times in the minors, Morrison flashed the tool that keeps him in an MLB lineup.
  6. For everyone claiming that LaMarre has "pop" in his bat, where is this "pop" manifesting itself? Obviously, I know that pop doesn't always translate to HRs, but you often see guys with pop rack up doubles. LaMarre's hit 10 HRs twice, and only had more than 20 doubles once. So is he just savagely tearing into his singles, rocketing them everywhere, or is he just hitting line drives right at the defense? Because his "pop" certainly hasn't translated to actual success or numbers that indicate he has any "pop."
  7. Yeah, but new swing. New approach launch angle. Late bloomer. What'd I miss
  8. Reality isn't always fun. And his track record - in MLB and recent stops at AAA don't indicate any different than the Burroughs example.
  9. Enough of the touchy feely sunshine and unicorn fart stories. Best 25 players and that's it. If this guy is one of the best 25 they've got, this team is in for a long, disappointing year. I look at his minor league stats and I don't even see a AAAA player - I see a career minor leaguer.
  10. If any of the new bullpen arms tank, this could be the one that really hurts this team the most.
  11. Correct, either they think they've got enough flexibility to survive a game or two if someone were to get dinged, or they're confident they can get him through this time ... even after they and the Reds have both already failed to do so.
  12. It's possible that the positional flexibility of guys of like Adrianza, Escobar, Garver, and to a lesser degree Morrison, would allow them to keep Vargas and Grossman, while having Granite a call away should anything happen. Buxton goes down, Kepler/Rosario shifts over. Rosario/Kepler goes down, Grossman/Garver/Adrianza/Morrison goes in. Obviously not ideal, but if it's anything more than a day or two, Granite could be up quickly. Or, maybe they're hoping to try to pass him through again with the final big roster purge of the spring and hope he gets lost in the shuffle and he can be one of those guys just a call away in Rochester.
  13. But could his offense/defense combo really be that much worse than what you're going to get from a cooked Aybar?
  14. So if/when Sano gets suspended the left side could be Esco and Aybar? Woof.
  15. I see sarcasm is lost on you. Good to know. But having seen Hughes the last couple of years, I feel 100% confident that he'll cost the team 4-5 wins before he helps them win 4-5 games.
  16. So we're glossing over the part about trotting a batting practice pitcher out there 4-5 times while waiting for Erv to come back? It's not about a 4-man rotation versus a 5-man rotation. It's about allowing an oft-injured junk-baller anywhere near a big league mound. Losing 4-5 games because Hughes can't sneak his 43 MPH heater past anyone count the same whether they're in April or August. In a season that the team should be competitive, but probably still competing with several teams for the Wild Card spots, I want the best pitchers available. Not the best ones with big contracts or without options.
  17. I think we can all hope and pray that something changes in these last few weeks and the FO office realizes that "lost money" is a better alternative than essentially handing 4-5 games over to the opposition while they get "one last look" at Terry Ryan's parting gift to the organization. But the likelihood is that Mejia, Gonsalves, Romero, Jorge, Et. al won't be gracing us with their presence at Target Field until the weather warms up. Barring injuries, of course. The best we can hope for at this point is that "he felt a twinge" shows up in one of the post-game stories following one of Phil's next outings.
  18. No problem with them skipping or not skipping anyone's starts early in the season ... unless they're skipping Hughes' starts. I'm all in favor of skipping those.
  19. Fingers crossed for an April 12 blizzard, an April 22nd implosion of Tropicana Field and an April 23 tsunami in the Bronx.
  20. This is the kind of move they should spring on people at the end of the day rather than at (almost) the beginning of the day. I've got another 6 hours of work ... that's a long time to walk around with the taste of bile in my mouth.
  21. I'm hopeful that it doesn't have to be an either/or situation and they can carpool to the airport.
  22. What was your favorite Anibal Sanchez moment?
  23. 10 ABs from Robert equates to, what, 3 or 4 actual swings?
