1. would a few scrap heap relievers/MIF'ers really have changed your perseption of the trade? This organization is LOADED with scrap heap reclamation prospects. Twins need top end talent... not longshot prospects
2. Case closed!
3. I like Mauer at the #2. If Revere (or deep sleeper to lead off Hicks) is consistently on base in front of him, their speed will force pitchers to throw more fastballs at Joe, if they're over the plate hopefully Joe smacks them into the outfield. Also, with a player like Revere Mauer may be gifted extra balls in the count due to pitchouts. Mauer given a free 1-0 gives him an even better opportunity to work the count and draw more walks.
4. This is a good move. As some of you have seen I am one of Span's biggest supporters, as well as one of Revere's biggest detractors. Also, on principle I was opposed to trading Span for the sake of selling high, I believed that unless we were given a fair offer Span is the type of player you hold. All that considered I think the Twins got a fair return for Span. Meyer projects as a strikeout pitcher, something the Twins are sorely lacking. The Twins did a classic baseball trade, took an organizational strength (Centerfield) and traded it for an organizational weakness (power pitching). Whether Meyer pans out is up in the air, he's a prospect... plenty of guys more highly regarded than Meyer will do worse than he will, plenty of guys ranked below him will perform better. I trust the Twins judgement of centerfielders, and I believe that they see something in either Revere (or more likely Hicks) that they can let Span go to strengthen the future of the rotation. I will miss Dspan. Will probably pick up a discount T-shirt with his number on it soon.
5. the problem with today's society is that it's considered impolite to tell an idiot he's an idiot.
6. Myers is one of the best prospects in a loaded KC system... Chris Parmalee is a mediocre first baseman that wouldn't start for more than a handful of teams.
7. AFL was encouraging... not because he produced a dominating stat line, but because he got some work in, and will help accelerate his path to recovery. If Gibson is healthy enough for a rotation spot out of spring training that would really improve this rotation that has nobody owning a spot. (Diamond is the only guy on this roster i'd put money on being in the rotation right now)
8. What about Trevor Plouffe? Are you implying trading him for Bauer straight up??? Yes. wow..... Back to the idea that our trash is another team's treasure! Brilliant!! I don't think Plouffe alone is enough to get Bauer. We'd probably have to throw in blackburn (solidify their 5th starter). And probably Carrol too.
9. As long as her moving to Twins duties gets her off the Wild broadcasts... She is awful on wild games.
10. If Hultzen or Walker are truly available the Twins owe it to the franchise to make a deal here. Hicks and maybe Morneau (with the Twins eating salary) could be a good start.
11. http://i.imgur.com/EPFfZ.gif DAE WANT RAMOS BACK?
12. I hope Matt Capps is a Twin for life. The hate he inspires from Twins fans is too damn entertaining to lose...
13. also, matt capps sucks.
14. having trouble finding the new thread button. Will someone create a JJ Hardy should never have been traded and i miss wilson ramos thread?
15. And it only takes 3 replies to get to the real issue nobody will ever dare bring up. Trading JJ Hardy was a disaster.
16. I'm still not convinced Peavy is top of the rotatoin. #2 for sure... but I don't know if one good season after a couple of bad ones gives him that definition. Dempster showed a lot of regression after the trade... I'd categorize him as a #2. These two are about to get 2 big contracts... that being said I want nothing to do with them on the Twins. Dempster is getting old and will command a multi-year deal and will be looking to maximize what will likely be his final deal. Peavy is looking at a final deal as well... He's likely going to be looking (and getting) way more years than he's worth. I really wouldn't invest the cash in any of the top free agent pitchers (Grienke/Dempster/Peavy)... They all have a lot of mileage on their arms (even Grienke who's the youngest of the group at 28). If they sign one (longshot anyway) and they pull a Zito... the Twins would be absolutely ****ed with payroll.
17. I don't see how anyone could think the top end starting pitching market isn't thin... It starts and ends with Grienke. There are some nice pitchers on the market that could improve this rotation... but Grienke is the only one i see as a #1.
18. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/jared-burton/ Never fully understood arbitration. How does this scenario work. It says he'll go to arbitration this off-season... doesn't he have the right to decline arbitration?
19. Perkins is my only lock. Hope the Twins re-sign Burton.
20. After using a song about cocaine distribution for walkup music for so long Mauer decided to give it a try.
21. We are so ****ing loaded at 5th starter.
22. Yeah... by not trading a guy just a few months into his deal we missed the boat. How do you expect to convince guys to sign here long-term without NTC's if you trade them away at the midpoint of the first year of a multi year deal? Willingham's value hasn't plummeted... and could still be traded in the future.
23. Slama will be a minor league free agent. I highly doubt he chooses to stay here.
24. I think it's a confidence issue. He's gotten knocked around pretty badly in his time in the bigs... I think that can drive a pitcher to start nibbling because they're afraid to go over the plate. That being said, Hendricks doesn't have dominating stuff. He's going to need to use the corners to be an effective pitcher. I think there's still hope he can become a solid back end of the rotation kind of guy, which is why the Twins are having him continue to trot out there.
25. The more I've thought about it, the less I like Grienke. #1. His numbers are no longer elite. An ERA a little under 4 and a little under a K per inning is elite compared to this squad... but relative to the money and years a 28 year old pitcher who has been in the majors since 2004... I don't like that risk. #2. If he signs with the Twins it means we overpaid. By a mile. #3 Why would he want to sign here? It makes little sense for a pitcher who will write his own ticket in free agency to pick a team that lost 90+games 2 years running... Hell if he signed here I think it would be a sign that he has no competitive spirit... and would rather just stay out of big pressure games. The Twins need to make a serious run at fixing this rotation... but I don't think it should be Grienke.
