  1. Vance Worley = Cy Young Mauer = MVP Morneau =MV2 Willinghammer = MV3 Hicks = ROY 92 Wins Super Bowl Homeboy.
  2. Also, follow up question. Last year's draft seemed to be a very solid group of top end prospects, as well as quality depth. What is the early report on draft depth this year?
  3. So who do you guys think the Twins are targeting in the draft? Despite being a Boras client, I'd love to see the Twins draft Appel if they get the chance. I think he could make a quick jump to the Majors, something this rotation could use.
  4. Well I believe Diamond can be quality starter. Good #3 Worley could become a #2 I'm not ready to give up on Hendricks yet. Gibson could rebound. Pelfrey/Harden/Correia could turn into a decent 5th starter. Saunders could run out of options, sign here, and play like a man on fire here hoping for a deal next season. That rotation is enough to get to .500. Hicks, Mauer, Willingham, Morneau, Doumit, Parmalee, Plouffe could produce some runs. This team could sneak into a wild card play-in game if everything falls together.
  5. Lions All-Stars | Leagues | Minnesota Baseball Hub | MN Boys High School Baseball It's probably legit. They were both a part of the Metro East Lions All star team in 2001.
  6. miss me yet? http://i.imgur.com/Hbw7W.jpg
  7. If it's a cheap minor league deal, why not? It's not like he'd be taking any innings from major league quality pitchers.
  8. So, it's been a pretty much universally panned move by JR. I don't think we need to start another thread doing so. So I decided to take another angle. What will it take out of Correia for Twins fans to be satisfied with his performance (whether you think he can reach it or not)? I'm hoping we see something around 160+ innings, with a 4.00 - 5.00 era. more importantly I'd like to see him keep his walks in the low 40's for the season total. If he can get this team through 6 innings still in the game I think this will be a good signing. It's obviously nothing spectacular but it should be enough to help the abysmal rotation improve.
  9. Just like the Capps contract didn't hamper them this past offseason, when they gave him way too much money way too early in free agency. Nope, it's inconceivable that this contract could potentially hamper them in ANY way this year or next. No chance whatsoever. None. Zip. They may use it as an excuse, I'm sure that's a possibility... but I'm not onboard with people's assessment that the Twins have a firm limit on payroll. I think they spend money when they believe there is value in the contract, or when they absolutely have to fill a need (like this case). I believe if this team is on the verge of contending next year the Twins will spend money to do so. 5 million dollars isn't gonna make much of a difference either way.
  10. Doug Mientkiewicz trade? OT fun fact, in googling how to spell Mientkiewicz i found out he named his son "Steel."
  11. I can't bring myself to hate this move. The Twins are not at the top of anybody's list for free agency... If this guy forces Walters/Devries/Deduno/Blackburn to at least EARN a spot in the rotation, then the Twins made a good move. I know everybody wants the big splash, but this team isn't a contender even if this was Grienke the Twins signed. 2013 is a rebuild year, accept it. Would you rather the Twins make their big splash now, and waste what will be the 2 most productive years of a big free agents' deal on a rebuilding season? I'd rather this team punt 2013 and make their big splash in 2014. And finally, 2 years 10 million... It's peanuts. It will not hamper this team in ANY way next year or this year in the free agent market. The Twins will sign free agents if they think they can contend.
  12. With the heat down in San Diego, the ball travels better than it does back here. Not a great move by the Twins, but one they clearly needed to make. Petco was 26th in runs allowed where Target Field was 10th in 2012, in 2011 Target Field was 21st but Petco was 28th, in 2010 Target Field 19th while Petco was 26th. Petco Yeah... but Twins pitchers play at target field...
  13. not a big fan of the move... he's a career 4.5 ERA guy who spent a long career in the NL with a low K rate... Is it better than trotting out devries? Of course... but not my first choice.
  14. A six year contract is a very long time for ANY pitcher. A better course of action is to spend less per player and pick up two pitchers for a shorter term. That way you're not worried about paying $25m to a 35 year old Greinke, who isn't that freakin good in the first place. Again, he's a good pitcher. He's not a great one. And you don't pay $25m to that kind of guy (and let's remember that the Dodgers won Greinke at $25m per, that means the Twins would have to offer $26-27m per year to get him). I agree. If the Twins were an ace away from a serious playoff run... it's a risk i'd love to see the Twins take once... but you don't sign the giant free agent pitcher before you build a contender... otherwise you waste what will almost always be the most productive years (years 1 and 2) building a team around him.
  15. I'm going with Worley edging Diamond because while they each get the advantage of a uncontested roster spot I think Worley is a lot more talented. I'm a fan of Diamond, but I think we see a regression to the mean and he plays out like a true low end 3, high end 4.
  16. Good trade. I've been a fan of Worley for some time now, had him on my fantasy team last season to help out in the K department. The prospect in addition sounds pretty good as well. I just hope the Twins have a plan to keep Worley on this roster long-term, because he has to be entering his 3rd year of his service clock at this point. It's a step in the right direction improving pitching. And the Twins have in 2 consecutive deals sold High in a seller's market. The Bill Smith Era is over.
  17. No chance. He needs to prove last season wasn't a fluke and his contact rate is sustainable.
  18. It's always an if... stranger things have happened my friend. (also, pro tip to a new member... using the "reply with quote" button that is located at the bottom right of a post can help people know who you're talking to)
  19. Only 1 in 7 makes a major league impact. Where does that leave us? as ****ed as any team that has that low of a minor league success rate.
  20. I don't see any trade market for Parmalee or Plouffe. what do you think the Twins could get in return?
  21. I don't think his stats give anyone reason to think he'll keep this up. It's still possible... but he has a very high BAbip along with a low walk rate... It screams unsustainable. Perhaps Revere's ability to make contact combined with his speed allow him to keep this up... but when it comes down to it I still fear Revere is one hamstring injury from being unable to help this team in any way.
  22. 1) Revere is absolutely still available. If a team is going to give the Twins pitching or middle infield help that is fair value for Revere the Twins will listen, and probably pull the trigger. I don't think there's much of a market for Revere though... he needs another year like last year to gain respect of GM's around the league. 2) I think it shows that the Twins are serious about making moves. I don't think Willingham is available, he's not untouchable, but someone would have to blow the Twins away. The Twins don't sign free agents, they finally do and it works... do you really think they're trading away their one success story? especially one with a great contract? Morneau is another guy with a limited market. His health is still a question mark and he's being paid a lot for teams to take him on as a rental. I think Morneau gets moved at the deadline if the Twins are out of it and he's healthy... but the return won't be much unless he's mashing.
  23. may have been said already, but Meyer was drafted about 8 spots ahead of the Twins' pick in the 2011 draft... Wonder if the Twins were hoping he'd drop to them.
  24. Mauer saw the lowest percentage of 4-seam fastballs in his career this past season. If you combine 4 and 2-seam it was the same as the previous two seasons. That's very interesting. I completely assumed the opposite.
