If Plouffe had a chance to stick at SS he'd be playing there for the Twins right now. NO way does a team look at his body of work and think, yeah... that's a guy I want to man the most defensively taxing position (besides catcher) for my playoff run. If someone wants him as a bench bat... or to fill a gaping hole in the outfield or 3rd base, they'll consider him... I like Plouffe, but he's no short stop. Also, he has more value as a player to hold onto than a player to move right now.

Right handed Luke Scott. The type of player who provides below average defense wherever he goes, but good enough to tolerate... and a bat capable of providing pop, but only against lefties.

Revere is blocking nobody but Clete Thomas, Brian Dinkleman and Erik Komatsu from the majors. and to the original point. Span is in no way blocking buxton. He will finish his current deal before Buxton is called up. If he remains with the team, as he's going to be slowing down... he'll likley be playing RF/backup CF making plenty of room for Buxton to play center. Trading Span is a terrible idea right now... maybe during the last year of his deal if the Twins are out of it at the deadline... but before that it's foolish. Who leads off for this team when Span goes? Twins will have to go outside the organization to replace Span's spot in the lineup... And finally, i can't say it enough. Ben Revere is a bench player.

Oswalt isn't making the switch from the NL this late in his career. There is no interest from either side in this happening.

Not necessarily. Sano will never be an elite defensive player at 3rd. But he can stick at the position. He is certainly not projecting at 1st base yet. LF is far more likely of a final position for him than 1st base (unless of course the Twins have a gaping hole at first when he gets his call up) The book is far from shut about Sano's ability to play 3rd.

Valencia was in AAA for nearly a full season before his callup. Sano isn't even to Ft. Myers yet. He's in Low A. Yes he's crushing it. But there is ZERO reason to rush this kid. This season is sunk, don't **** up the best prospect in your organization.

There isn't a single player I'd rather see at the top of this order over Span on the Twins roster, or in the system. Leadoff centerfielders with occasional pop/SB's and a great eye for the plate do not grow on trees. Revere cannot bring what Span does to the plate, neither can Benson. Hicks is too far out to be relied on as a replacement. Span is the type of player you build around.

are you implying that a prospect hasn't proven his worth by 19? If you're not hitting 30 HR in AAA before 20 you're worthless.

I want college arms. Maybe not #2 overall, but this draft needs to end with the twins having a couple high end rotation type prospects. The system needs fresh arms injected into it.

Hunter was overpaid. The Twins may have lowballed Hunter, but the consensus of MLB analysts was that the Angels blew everyone out of the water to get Hunter. Also, Hunter has not been able to hold down centerfield for the duration of his contract. A big part of his value was his production at his position. Santana was a move I understood. While the Twins are finally stepping into the lower-upper tier of payroll, 7 year contracts to pitchers with a lot of miles on their arms is not a good business model. The Mets were somewhat able to overcome Johan's Tommy John injury, but that's something that would have sunk the Twins. The Twins got high-end talent from the Mets, but those prospects just didn't pan out. Gomez was projected as a 20+ HR centerfielder with elite defense. The Elite defense appeared but the bat never came around. Guerra was projected as a high-end talent that had top of the rotation potential, and it just didn't work out. The trade was a good idea, since the Twins needed to get value out of a player they were unlikely to be able to re-sign. My biggest issue with your post is you said that nathan was paid too much money. He wasn't. The Twins simply paid market value for a guy who was neck and neck with Mariano Rivera as far as best closer in baseball goes. Edit: Also the Twins DID have a high upside centerfielder in the pipes. Denard Span was well established in the minors and was very close to being MLB ready. Gomez was not a player they absolutely needed, simply a high-end talent that their scouts felt could make the jump. They were wrong, but it's not fair to say the Twins made these moves for racial reasons. They replaced Hunter with Gomez and Span (both minorities), They've tried to make LIriano the Twins new ace... yet another minority. This is a stupid premise.

I diagree that Nathan got too much money, and it's far too early in Mauer's contract to say that about him. Nathan was paid like an elite closer. He produced like an elite closer until his injury. Was he overpaid for his final year? Of course, but you can't predict injuries and it's unfair to blame the twins or Nathan for that.

Exactly. Revere is not a home run hitter, nor does he need to become one. If he hits one this season I'll be pleasantly surprised. But if Revere is going to be a starter, specifically one at a corner outfield spot, he needs to hit the ball to the outfield more. Revere is fun to watch, and you can tell he plays hard every game, but that alone doesn't make you a starter at a position that is typically reserved for your better hitters in the lineup. And to be clear, I'm not a huge fan of doumit or plouffe, but their bats represent a significant improvement over revere's at this moment.

OPS is not only affected by HR's. It also takes into account extra base hits. A player with his speed should be hitting more doubles and triples, but he simply isn't. The vast majority of his game is infield singles, and that simply isn't sustainable. Ben Revere is a 4th outfielder at best, I'm glad that's the position he's been given this season.

You're really overrating revere in this post. Revere hit an empty 300 and OPS'd barely above .600. That's tolerable from a middle infielder with elite defense... but not out of a corner outfielder.

Revere's hitting ability has not translated into the majors yet. He has never earned a starting job. Plouffe is a better hitter than you're giving him credit for. He played 81 games last season and hit 8 HR... simple math puts a fair projection for Plouffe at 15-16 on a full season.

I will always love Livan... Maybe I'm the only one who remembers this game... but the Twins were playing the Tigers and he threw Cabrera a bunch of junk including a heavy dose of that 60 MPH slow curve. Cabrera popped out with RISP and cursed out Livan the whole way to first. I believe the message was "pitch to me like a man" Classic.
