  1. Any plans to add a Wild/Gophers centric site?
  2. The recent trades are why i wasn't worried when the Twins didn't make a big deadline splash. Everybody who needed to be moved got through waivers... Ryan is wise to get something for a guy out the door. Hopefully Willingham helps the Royals make the playoffs for the first time since the 80's.
  3. If a player of little to no importance to your team doesn't want to be here, do you force him to stay? I'm not certain that's what happened, but that would justify it for me. Worley asked to leave, twins granted his request.
  4. I agree. I think when talking about Guerrier earlier Antony said that he's not in the business of holding guys hostage. Worley likely wanted out, and the Twins got what they could.
  5. I believe the improved presence the twins have had in international prospect pools are a direct result of the increased revenue from the stadium. Everybody focuses on payroll... but from the beginning the Twins were explicit in that they did not have a percentage of these new revenues going directly to payroll... they would just be improving the overall organization. The Twins have been very active in the latin american markets and it has paid dividends. If they can pull of signing the Cuban SS Guerrero i'll be very impressed.
  6. The PR is negligible at best. Most of these people are the people who were gonna equate letting Morneau walk as a free agent to Torii Hunter anyway. If anything this a shrewd PR move because he's helping people get over this injustice a month faster.
  7. the online equivalent of my favorite common man overplayed soundbyte. "I'M PULLIN MY TICKETS!" that guy's decision on his tickets was made well before this move.
  8. The PTBNL could be a prospect that helps the team in the near future, maybe a reliever close to the majors for all we know. The money saved could be instrumental in tipping the scales in the Twins favor for a free agent next year, or enough to entice the Cuban SS Alexandar Guerrero to come to Minnesota. Or the money could help the Pohlad's pay their back taxes. The point is we just don't know... and to be worried about a PR hit seems silly.
  9. IMO we have to wait for the PTBNL to judge this trade. If you look at the PTBNL Butera brought in, it's possible there's a talented player coming the Twins way, but the Pirates in exchange for giving up a prospect wanted protection in the event that Morneau got a concussion or other injury (A very reasonable thing to ask for with Morneau's recent history) It's also important to note, that while we as Twins fans love the memory of what Morneau was, no GM is going to pay for past performance. The Pirates GM pay for a month of Morneau's services + playoffs. The market for that isn't stunning.
  10. twins daily has learned that a billionaire avoided paying taxes.
  11. the twins should sign every top international free agent. They never bust
  12. The Twins are not making the playoffs. Period. I know I didn't break any news there, but people need to realize this when they discuss who deserves playing time. Hicks was trending up before his injury. Hicks is by far more a part of the Twins long-term future than a guy like Clete. Hicks should play every day because of this fact. Hicks & Arcia should almost never sit (rest days excluded). Why waste their time on a bench when they can learn against the pros in a lost season?
  13. It's amusing you start your post off with an argument nobody is making to claim nobody is making another argument. The Puck's post brought up his spot in the rotation as an argument and stated me calling him a #4/#5 starter as an excuse. Could I get you to post a little blurb on what every thread is about so I view them all through your filter?
  14. It's not an excuse, it's reality. Spot in the rotation has nothing do with Correia. That's an indictment of the front office not the player.
  15. Yawn. Correia is better than all the haters of the signing said he'd be, and he's not as good as his incredible April. It's almost as if a guy getting paid #4/#5 money is playing like a #4/#5 starter.
  16. I'd rather see that hypothetical rotation with one of the inevitable soft-tossers in between. I like a rotation that varies from power to control pitcher to mess with hitters timing.
  17. Hicks looks like a kid who made a big jump and is struggling to adjust. I think he's finally starting to come around. I really don't care what his end of the year stats look like as long as he continues to make incremental improvements. Anybody who thinks there's any reasonable scenario where the Twins could be contenders and Hicks getting AB's and learning what MLB games are all about is the best use of the center field position.
  18. Worley needed a confidence building start. He got through 6 good innings... no need to risk all that progress being lost in one bad inning.
  19. I would argue long term contracts to position players are inherently less risky than a pitcher considering the epidemic of Tommy John surgeries. A pitcher has a significantly lower number of injuries they can play through... a hitter like Mauer, can still play first base or DH if injuries take him away from catching. Yes the value is less, but it's not fall off the face of the planet less like a pitcher with a significant injury.
  20. There's also the difference between being a position player at a premium position vs being a starter pitching every 5 days. If you have player A and B are equal levels of talent at their respective position, and Player A is a position player and B is a pitcher... I take player A every time. edit: Also, as far as Mauer goes. He had the Twins by the balls... The Twins had to retain Mauer after getting the new stadium at any cost. Combine that with Mauer just happening to have a career year right before that... The Twins ended up paying Mauer a lot of money.
  21. No, what i'm saying is both of our statements hold equal merit due to the lack of a shred of tangible evidence on either side.
  22. your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries
