Happy New Year! It's time for resolutions, and I have one for the Minnesota Twins minor league system. I'd like to see more innings from the starting pitching prospects. This is a potential area of improvement both across the org, and in regard to several of their top pitching prospects.

The Minnesota Twins are reportedly in agreement with free agent reliever Josh Staumont on a contract guaranteeing just under $1 million. It's a low-risk, high-upside move, but I find it concerning that the Royals non-tendered him at such a modest projected salary and then were very active spending on the free agent market.

After the Minnesota Twins finally broke their embarrassing playoff losing streak, you'd figure the fanbase would be flying high. Instead, early offseason reports of the team planning on decreasing payroll have killed the vibe. I shared my thoughts both on the payroll situation and on fan morale/excitement heading into 2024.

I joined the guys at Destination: The Show for a lengthy discussion primarily about Twins prospects. Among the many topics discussed was Brooks Lee's likelihood of being traded and the future at second base. Jorge Polanco figures to be the most likely player from the position pool to be dealt this offseason, but teams will definitely be asking about Lee and Edouard Julien, as well.

The Minnesota Twins haven't done anything this offseason and I'm guessing it might be another month before we see any activity from Derek Falvey and the front office. We're just going to have to be patient.

The Minnesota Twins were inactive in the Major League phase of today's Rule 5 Draft, but added four new players to the system in the minor league phase. They selected left-handed starting pitcher Rafael Marcano, catcher Rafael Escalante, utility guy Angel Del Rosario and right-handed reliever Sheldon Reed. Pierson Ohl, drafted in the 14th round back in 2021, added a ton of velo this past season to go along with his always impressive control. The end result was one of the better performances not just in the Twins system, but across the entire Double-A level. Here are some highlights and a look at some of Ohl's numbers.

Let's talk trades! An idea I submitted for Twins Daily's Offseason Handbook was acquiring Mitch Keller of the Pirates for a package of Matt Wallner and David Festa. Friday night was the non-tender deadline and the Minnesota Twins made a couple of moves that surprised me. With news of the payroll being scaled back some, I figured Kyle Farmer was as good as gone either by trade or non-tender. Nope, he's still around. Twins Have Intriguing Non-Tender Deadline Day

Friday night was the non-tender deadline and the Minnesota Twins made a couple of moves that surprised me. Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported that people around the industry believe there’s a very strong chance the Minnesota Twins will trade Jorge Polanco. I discussed what I would target in a trade for Polanco, his trade value and some considerations that might make him more attractive on the market. This is going to be a very interesting offseason.
