  1. I hope this money doesn't go right back in the Polad's pockets! Does Terry Ryan understand that relief pitchers are the easiest thing to find as far as personnel goes? This guy is clueless! The Twins need SP prospects and position players. If he wanted to save money for a future pick why not draft a signable college SP or a college bat? The game has passed Terry Ryan by!
  2. You could count the number of good draft picks, good trades and development sucess stories on one hand for this organization. Terry Ryan is skating by on the rep he built 10-20 years ago. Lately Terry, Radcliffe, Billy Smith, Johnson etc have been outclassed by smarter more modern-thinking front office folks. It is a fact that the game has passed these good old boys by. This organization is loyal to a fault and it will doom them for years.
  3. The Twins are horrible at drafting AND developing pitchers. I have NO faith in this organization. They need to clean house from top to bottom. The only saving grace is that they stuck to the BPA and took Buxton at #2. Buxton has a chance to be the player we all were told Benson, Hicks, Revere and Span could be.
  4. x2 Ryan should be fired for wasting a potential high upside guy for the right to overpay for a mediocre closer that won't make 1 game difference in standings.
  5. I agree 100%. I like Giolito followed by Buxton and Correa. My main concern about Giolito would be the Twins ruining him by going pitch to contact. I feel Buxton and Correa are far superior to the college pitchers. The Twins should use their next 4-5 picks on starters and hope that they get 1 MLB #3 starter out of the group. This organization needs better coaching or it doesn't matter who they take, they will continue to run off good talent like Hardy, Dickey, Humber, Ortiz, Jones, on, on, on if they do not conform to pitch to contact or PuntoBall.
  6. Signing Carroll to a 2 year deal was a killer. He is no better than a bench bat on a good team and no one wants to be tied to a bench bat at more than the league minimum salary. The Twins will be forced to cut him and eat the salary next year when they realize they cant have a 40 year old eating at bats on a rebuilding team.
  7. Well stated. When you have no minor league talent you need to trade to acquire young talent.
  8. The rotation is fine????? They are worst in the league and were on record pace for futility a few days ago. At this point all vets should be on the block and they should be building for 2015. Whether they win 40 or 75 games the next two years is meaningless if winning championships is the goal.
  9. I forgot about Garza, that was a good pick even if they got fleeced later. Yet the post Mauer drafts look horrible overall. Span, Garza and a whole lot of reloef pitchers and AAAA players. The Twins have had a few good international signings, I will grant you that, however that doesn't give them a pass for the putrid drafting. To me they have really missed on starting pitchers. In the last 10 years, all except Baker and Garza are relief pitchers which are completely wasted picks when you can build a good pen with waiver wire fodder and cheap deals. The Twins need to focus on finding guys who can strike out batters and have 3 pitches instead of focusing almost entirely on control and makeup.
  10. Anyone who thinks this top ten is void of exciting prospects is utterly clueless. Don't you agree, twinswon1991? Sano is a VERY exciting prospect but he was not drafted. Name one impact player or potential impact player the Twins have drafted since Mauer? Span is a solid major leaguer but will never be an all star. Other than that????? I hear Crickets......... Liraino had major potential but he was a trade target. Try to find one organization that has drafted worse in that time span. All I am saying is if you have DRAFTED no impact players and have no draftees listed in the top 50 of any MLB prospect lists it is time to clean house in the scouting department or you will be putrid forever. This organization MUST draft and develop because they cannot spend with the big boys and their coaching will always be skewed towards pitch to contact and opposite field hitting which can't compete against good teams esp. in playoffs. They need extreme talent like Santana, Hunter, Morneau, and Mauer to overcome the poor coaching philosphy.
  11. YUK. This top 10 list is exhibit A why the entire scouting department should be fired. They havent drafted a single true prospect in years. A system full of Blackburns and Hockings is just plain embarassing.
  12. Unless the Twins eat nearly all of his salary I doubt the Twins are offered anything more than a few low minors type players. Morneau's risk and lack of ability to hit lefty's make him only a decent option for these teams. The Orioles picked up Chris Davis for basically nothing when his salary was basically zero and I feel that Davis is a good comp for Mornaeu talent wise at this point. Both have bad platoon splits, play decent 1B and have good power. Davis has better positional flexibility (3B) and age is on his side. Again, I don't see Morny bringing much in return.
  13. Fire Terry Ryan, entire coaching staff, medical staff and ESPECIALLY the scouting depatment. DON'T LET THIS FO MAKE ANY DECISIONS IN THE UPCOMING DRAFT.....THIS DRAFT IS TOO IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE CLOWNS SCREW IT UP AGAIN!
  14. I doubt he would be willing to come back unless the entire medical staff is overhauled. He is better off signing with a team that has a decent medical staff on a 1 year deal to get right.
  15. Please talk to Terry Ryan before he does something stupid and gives Diamond a 3 yr extension....... To answer Seth's question: A #4 starter is slightly above replacement level. #5 starters, long relief, AAAA, and AAA are all basically waiver wire fodder. Good teams have only #1-#4 starters in their rotation and hopefully no more than one #5 starter/AAAA/AAA/long relief on their mlb club including bullpen. Unfortunately for the Twins, their entire staff is made up of #5 starters and they have only 3 relievers who could be considered better than long relievers on decent teams.
  16. REALITY CHECK The Twins have ZERO assets in their entire organization that can fetch a prospect on the BA top 100 list other than Sano who is on the list himself. Based on Morneau's contract the best they can hope for is a promising pitcher in A ball that has a chance to be a #3 starter some day. This is reality Twins fans and is a direct result of terrible FO management for the last 10 years.
  17. If Gardy preaches hitting it the other way with piranahs and preahes pitch to contact closer fences would make this team even less competitive than they are. Power hitters can hit it out anywhere. Mauer, Carroll, Casilla, Butera, Span, Revere, Parmelee, etc couldnt hit homers in most high school parks because they have zero power. The Twins shouldnt move the fences in until they sign and develop more power prospects or bring back the HGH Mauer was on when he had his Brady Anderson season.
  18. When is Mauer gonna run out of excuses? Trees, dimensions, injuries, on, on, on. He cant hit homers on the road either. Leave the fences alone and get some real MLB hitters!
  19. The Twins would get an equal talent in tha AJ for Mauer swap. AJ still probably has more years left as a catcher than Joe does and AJ can actually hit homers. Since Joe got paid he seems more interested in DHing as opposed to playing the position he was paid to play.
  20. Two more failures to add to the long list of failures attributed to the scouting dept and coaching staffs. That these guys were even listed on the Twins top prospect lists shows how bad the minor league system is. Cant wait to see how Ryan and his band of clowns screw up this draft!
  21. Think how much better off the Twins would be now with AJ at 6 mil instead of Mauer making 23 mil!!!! AJ is never hurt, can handle a pitching staff, and never EVER asks out of the lineup or to DH! The Twins could have AJ plus a CJ Wilson type ace for 23 mil or Softy Mauer whose contract will haunt the Twins for years! Sigh.............
  22. Never underestimate Ersrad and his boys. They are by far the scariest team for Purdue.
  23. Terry Ryan shouldve been fired the moment he signed Marquis to a mlb deal. No other team was willing to give him even a minor league deal. Add this to the loss of draft pick for Capps and you have the worst gm in the bigs.
  24. Iron man Mauer needs a day off after the only game all year he actually came close to earning his paycheck???? Does he have bi-lateral weakness from counting his money? If he is sooo good he should be playing 1B against a RH starter. My guess is Mauer asked Gardy to take him out of the lineup since the BrewCrew has a front line starter on the mound and he doesn't want to put his precious OBP on the line against any top pitcher.
  25. Don't underestimate how dumb this front office is. They gave up a supplemental 1st rounder this year to sign Capps. Capps is a decent pitcher but when you are going to lose 90+ games and your minor leagues are an embarassment why give up a 1st round pick to sign a closer than will make NO difference this year???
