    The Twins have had hard throwers but have preached pitch to contact which has prevented them from striking out guys. Gardy loves the crafty vets who buy into his stupid philosphy which is why all they have at the bigs are a bunch of 88 mph strike throwers who get bombed. The minors have few guys with good fastballs but not good "stuff". With just a straight heater you have no chance in the bigs outside of a relief role. It will be impossible to sign any FA pitchers with plus fastballs or draftees with plus fastballs for that matter with the TERRIBLE medical staff the Twins have. I would rather go back to college than get misdiagnosed like every Twins pitcher has been for years. If you aren't ruined by the medical staff, you are ruined by Gardy - pick your poison.

    Correct. Bottom line is Chris is just not that talented. His ceiling is a below average power BACKUP corner infielder. Very little value so really nothing lost by brining him up "early" since he won't be part of this team's future.

    This article proves just hoe terrible the scouting department is. The Polads need to fire Ryan and his wahed up scouts before they screw up another draft. Take the savings and throw the money at front office folks from the Rays or Jays. Without forward thinking guys in the font office this team will NEVER compete again.

    I was strongly considering the under as well but decided to hope for a miracle. Didn't fully realize Willingham is out which makes the lineup worse than over 1/2 the AAA lineups in minors. Now just hoping for 1 hit which is terribly sad. Has there ever been a MLB team so putrid that you just pray for 1 measly hit????

    Vegas O/U on Twins baserunners in this game is 6 per my bookie. This is the lowest O/U he can ever remember since the 1980's! Shows just how embarrassing this lineup is.

    Pitch to contact is a strategy when you have no skill. Marquis, Blacky, Hendricks, Pavano, on , on , on have NO SKILLS. Why not draft a pitcher or 2 with some skills?

    Nice honest article. We see too much homerism around here and not enough reality. Bottom line is if Ryan screws up this upcoming draft the team will drift off into the abyss like it did in th 90's. I don't have much hope in Ryan or his scouting department as they have royally bombed in the draft in recent years and always seem to gravitate towards low-ceiling pitchers and toolsy OF's that never seem to develop. Ryan needs to go if this org has any chance of avoiding the moniker "Pittsburg West".

    If that was a quality start yoy have lowered your expectations WAY too much. Marquis was struggling to get outs against a AAA lineup. Marquis has to be the worst pitcher holding down a rotation spot in the bigs.

    The Twins medical staff screws up another........Guaranteed they will have him try to rehab only to find out that didn't work next spring and he will have the surgery and be out til 2014. This is just par for the course when your dealing with the worst front office and medical staff in the bigs.

    Before we heap praise on Ulger weneed to remember that the Twins are shut out once again if Wilhelmsen throws to the right base.

    The Twins are to only organization dense enough to give Butera at bats at ANY level. This guy should be employed at McDonalds and should not be allowed within 10 miles of a bat.

    Terry Ryan didn't think this team should rebuild. If so, why sign washed up no-good vets like Marquis, Carroll and Capps to above market deals? And to give up a suppemental pick to sign Capps again shows that Ryan doesn't get it and he was "going for it" instead of rebuilding after a 99 loss year. Ryan's poor scouting has contributed to the poor minor league system as well. Ryan has every reason to be fired just like Smith did but Terry is a cheap GM so he will keep his job. Terry's track record is great but it is obvious the game has passed him by and he will run this franchise further into the ground.

    Exhibit A why Terry Ryan should be fired! This was a move that no one in their right mind would make. HE OVERPAID FOR A CLOSER ON A 100 LOSS TEAM AND GAVE UP A FIRST ROUND PICK FOR THE RIGHT TO OVERPAY!

    Seth owes Fanatic Jack an apology. Seth ripped Jack for being negative on the Twins chances this offseason. Who looks like the moron now? Some Twins fans and bloggers need a dose of reality. The Twins were horrible in 2011, hire a clueless gm, and have the worst minor league system in baseball. It doesnt take a genious to see this is a 100 loss club for years to come.

    With the 2nd pick in the 2012 MLB Draft.......The MN TWINS take ------ a soft tosser who throws strikes but can't strike anyone out. With the 1st pick in the 2013 MLB draft.........THE MN TWINS take ------" " " " " ". Can we all agree Terry Ryan should be fired?? The moment he gave up a supplemental 1st round pick to resign Capps it showed he is old and clueless. To gie up a 1st rounder when you have the worst farm system in baseball is a fireable offense.

    The bottom 4 guys in this lineup couldn't get jobs for most AAA teams. Carroll, at age 38, should'e retired last year and does not deserve more than 2 starts a week.

    The following players have no business getting regular MLB playing time: Parmelee, Thomas, Carroll, Valencia, Blackburn, Marquis, etc. These guys could be CUT and no other MLB team would give them anything other than the last spot on their 25 man roster IF THAT. TERRY RYAN, YOU HAVE PUT TOGETHER A GREAT TEAM!!!! Please resign, the game has passed you buy. Can't wait to see TR draft some soft-tossing strike thrower with the #2 pick that will have a ceiling of 4.5 K/9 and an ERA of 4.50.

    Roy Smalley is a JOKE! Even Dick Bremer and Seth Stohs can't compete with his homerism! The fact that Gardy continues to play Thomas shows he is asking to be fired! Put him out of his misery now.....

    What is the major league record for worst ERA by a teams starting pitchers???? I am guessing it was a 1990's Texas staff. I have a strong feeling that this team will top them all.

    Wake up people! The nats wouldnt give up Zimmermann for Span AND Sano. A more realistic scenario is Span for Detwiler OR a mid-level SP prospect.

    If I cannot fire Gardy or Ryan the wishes really dont do any good so I would wish the following: 1. I would give Terry Ryan a brain transplant from anyone who has even a limited knowlege of meaningful statistical anaysis and sabermetrics. It would be great to have a gm that does not put a high value on rbi. , pitcher wins, or the famous proven closer mantra. 2. For my second wish I would give Gardy a skin transplant. Gardy cant deal with controversy or players who dispute his hit it the other way and throw it over the plate strategy. With thicker skin he wouldnt ruin or run off so many good players. 3. For my last wish I would like my new-brained gm to find another gm to take on Mauers albatross contract for essentially nothing. The return is irrelevant as long as the contract is off the books. The contract looks like the worst in baseball now, wait a few years when Joe is a 5 homer. 280 hitting 1b playing well below replacement level! The contract is going to kill the franchise unless he is dealt.

    The Twins minor league system is horrific if there is no one to bring up to replace Marquis or Blacky. Bill Smith, Terry Ryan, and the entire scouting department should be ashamed!

    Is there a non-zero chance the Twins could trade Mauer's albatross contract???? Without trading the contract, this team will have little chance of competing until Joe is gone. Terry Ryan needs tons of payroll flexibility to make up for his laundry list of mistakes due to his old school thinking.
