  1. Maquis should've been pulled after 5. He was lucky his defense bailed him out numerous times with Span's catch and the DP. Maquis is a TERRIBLE pitcher and shouldn't be on any MLB roster. What a horrible signing to give this guy anything more than a minor league deal with a ST invite. I'm sure Dick, Bert, and Gardy (3 stooges) will say that he is a bulldog and has kept his team in the game but he cannot induce any weak contact, does not have impeccable control, and cannot K anyone so what value does he have???? Cut this BUM now and bring up Diamond or some other pitcher from AAA that has a chance to be with this team in the future.
  2. I'm not saying he isn't a good prospect at all. He would be a TOP prospect if it was fairly certain his age is accurate. The way he is trending he will be a big league regular with above average power and high K's which is still a very valuable asset. The scouts did say that many teams were not willing to bid as high as the Twins for Sano because they had reason to believe he was 2 years older than he claimed when he signed. In the end, the Sano lie may benefit the Twins greatly as otherwise they had no shot to sign him if he was truely 16 years old.
  3. I attended quite a few games at E-Town last year and sat next to scouts many times. They all raved about Sano but most scouts had major doubts about his REAL age due to his body type and visiting with other sources. It is very possible he is 22 years old and is right where he should be age/level wise. I think there is enough likelihood his age is false that BA and others cannot rank him higher.
  4. I highly doubt the Twins have a major league starting calibur outfield in their system outside of Sano (if he doesnt end up at 1b). Hicks, Benson, and Revere all appear to be fringe mlb starters at best and all have had enough time in the minors that you wonder if they will ever make it.
  5. I quit reading as soon as you mentioned drafting for need. Terry Ryan cant assess the current needs of the club let alone the needs of the club 3 years down the road when these prospects are ready. Stick to the. NFL draft Cody you have shown you know nothing about mlb draft logic.
  6. "Blackburn is an established major league talent". Have you ever seen him pitch?? If not for the stupid contract the twinkies wouldve cut him 2 years ago. Blacky has no business being on an mlb roster. The injury was a HUGE break for the twins because Liam is much more talented.
  7. Mauer will add a 2012 GIDP title to his 3 battiing titles. Joe is a #2 hitter now and moving Willingham to the 3 spot evens out the lineup. Carroll is more of a 8/9 hitter defintely not someone you want getting more AB than your power sticks.
  8. We should all get used to it unfortunately. The upper levels of the Twins minor leagues are BY FAR the worst in baseball so it will be 3 years before the reinforcements arrive. The bad multi-year contracts (Mauer, Morneau, Blacky, Carroll) make it less likely the Twins will be able to move these players to aquire minor leagues. And with guys like Blacky, Carroll, Marquis, Valencia, Casilla, and the entire bullpen - WHO WOULD WANT THESE BUMS ANYWAY. It will be some lean years around here and T.R./Gardy are not part of the answer.
  9. Defense is SORELY needed! The Twins defense is even worse than the Tigers. And not to mention, with Revere gone, the Twins have the most unathletic team in the league. I hope Gardy uses this guy frequently in late inning situations to sub out Doumit and Willingham who are terrible in the field. The Twins have too many DH types!
  10. Nice to see the Twins have one player not afraid of Target Field. The M & M boyz just make excuses.
  11. Marquis is a batting practice pitcher that should be released. Slowey is 100% better than Marquis but our clueless gm values nice guys because they get along with gardy. Bring up guys from our poor minor league system to get the innings since they will lose 110 games regardless.
  12. At least the Twins are now guaranteed to have the number 1 pick in the 2013 draft. They need to restock their pathetic farm system. I hope they can compete by 2017.
  13. Good points. I agree the offense should be decent when it kicks into gear. I am worried about several black holes in the lineup (Carroll, Casilla, Revere when in) who offer no threat of even gap power when in the lineup. If you take these Judy's out of the lineup, the loss in defense is huge. Having Morneau as a DH only is a killer when it comes to both batting and defensive flexibility. With this pitching I cringe when I think how many runs the Twins may need to score during the warmer summer months to try to keep up with some of the high powered offenses in the AL. Outside of the friendly pitching confines of Target Field this staff may have an ERA in excess of 5.00.
  14. I am the biggest twins fan there is but I also have a firm grasp on REALITY. I never expected this team to be better than bottom 3 in the whole MLB this year but that doesnt make me any less of a fan. I wish more of the media had a better sense of reality instead of cheerleading and giving uneducated fans false hope.
  15. Glad I have seats today in left field. Always try to buy seat in the outfield when Blacky pitches as it is almost always a guaranteed 3-4 opportunities for home run balls from the visiting team. WHY IS THIS GUY ON THE ROSTER???? Oh, it is only because he has a stupidly lucrative big league deal. Blacky couldn't start for the Saints!
  16. HE should be fired NOW before he runs off any more decent players like he did with Papi, Garza, Delmon, Hardy, so on and so on. He will play you only if you are NICE and are 5'2" and scrappy (Punto/Butera/Carroll). After another 99+ loss season it is best to start over with new players, new coaches and a GM that knows how to evaluate players.
  17. Exactly! Do these people realize we are stuck with this Bum for 2 years???? We could've kept Punto and had a better defender and hitter!. Carroll can field better than Nishi......WOW sign him to an extension. Too many on this site have no concept of reality!
  18. Gardy ran off Hardy, Papi, Garza and I'm sure others because of his philosophy. I like the pitch to contact and hit the other way philosophy for the replacement level guys we have but when you have power bats or power arms you have to let them fire/hack away. Gardy's failure to handle "power" players is embarassing. His coddling of Mauer and failure to develop young players is very obvious.
  19. Terry Ryan and Gardy should've been fired before the season started and it looks like it will be mission accomplished after this team fails to win more than 5 games in the first month. The problem is that the guys you hope to trade for a bag of balls: Liriano, Pavano, Capps are gonna be so bad they won't be able to give them away and we will be forced to watch their ineptititude. Get some balls Terry Ryan and own up to your offseason of mistakes and FLAT OUT CUT the following players so young guys can get a chance: Blacky, Carroll, Pavano, Crapps, Burnett, Casilla, Marquis, etc! Face it this is a 100+ loss team as is so why not lose 110 games with young guys learning on the job????
  20. Terry Ryan is clueless. He will pay for Saves, RBI, and Wins which are probably the 3 most meaningless stat categories period. The fact that Ryan forfieted a 1st round draft pick to overpay for Capps is the DEBACLE of the offseason in all of MLB. TERRY SHOULD BE FIRED!
  21. Agree 100%. The media is drinking the kool aid and eating up the propaganda the Twins are putting out. Bottom line: the Twins have worst pitching in MLB other than the Astros. With terrible pitching, little power, injury prone players, and no top level prospects I just don't see how this can end any better than a 75 win season. In the end, Terry Ryan will blame it on injuries or inexperience but his terrible offseason and the Mauer albatross contract are issues no one can overcome. I just hope Liriano and Pavano are decent enough that the Twins can cash in their only tradeable assets for some more worthless prospects that they scouted poorly.
  22. The season was over as soon as Ryan was rehired as GM. He proved he is clueless when he gave up a first round pick for the right to overpay Capps. And then the clueless one (TR) gave a rediculus deal to Marquis when no other team would bother to give him a Minor League ST Invite. Can't wait to see how Ryan screws up the draft pick by taking another cheap Judy-type center fielder or a strike throwing nice guy pitcher.
  23. I have a feeling Gardy got trumped on this one. There is no way he would want one of his "Good Ole Boys" going to the minors.
  24. I doubt the bullpen will be worse only because the 2011 pen set the bar very low. Can someone explain why TR gave up a 1st round pick to sign a closer on a likely 70 win team???? Oh yeah, its because Capps is a NICE GUY! What a way to run a franchise.
  25. Marquis should have never recieved a major league deal but clueless Terry Ryan went ahead and bid against himself and wasted precious dollars that couldve went towards useful assets. The Twins couldve signed Marquis to a minor league deal and I wouldve said good job as no other teams would offer this bum a guaranteed mlb deal. As they say all you have to find is one sucker and Marquis's agent found Terry Ryan.
