    Greinke has endured enough 90-100 loss seasons with the Royals. Why would he want to sign with MN only to endure 3+ 100 loss seasons to start his free agent deal? The Twins would need to WAAAAY overpay in dollars and years to even be in the conversation for any decent free agents in the coming years. The scouting departments disastrous drafting in recent years is really gonna haunt the team just as much as Mauer's contract. There is little hope to sell to free agents that his team will be even remotely competitive in the next 5 years.

    It speaks to how overpaid Mauer is when there is no team in baseball that would take his contract for FREE. 6 more years at 23 mil for a DH/1B that posseses Punto-esque power will paralyze any franchise.

    Mauer was too exhausted after DHing to catch today???????? What a wimp! To come close to earning half hisbpat he needs to catch 140 games. Instead we have a liability at catcher today and a Judy playing first.

    When reading this article it is obvious how terrible the hitting/pitching coach and medical staff have been for 3+ years yet Terr Ryan has failed to shake things up. When is the last time Vavra or Anderson made a positive impact on a player? Loshe, Dicky, Garza, Humber, Hardy and many others have to be overjoyed they got out when they did.

    It is much more likely that Terry Ryan signs 2 of the following: Harang, Westbrook, Moyer, Lowe, Corriea, etc because they are pitch to contact vets. None will get mlb offers yet Terry will likely give them multi year deals. I would Love to see the Twins sign Annibal but he will demand 4 years at 14 mil per year. Secondly the Twins are not an attractive destination due to their zero fhance of winning, terrible pitching coach and inept medical staff.

    What is the MLB record for worst team ERA? This team CAN finish first in something! Blacky and Marquis should be CUT immediately. Need more guys like Dozier, Diamond, etc up in the bigs to audition for the 2013 club.

    Terry Ryan was the only GM dumb enough to offer this bum a major league deal. Now that they are stuck with a mlb deal Ryan will ride this out until the situation is well past embarassing.

    Mauer needs to get back on the juice like he was when he had his one big power season which duped the Twins into signing him to a contract only a true power hitter can earn. Now we have 8 more years watching a Casey Kotchman clone play 1B/DH making 20 million more than he is worth. Who hits more HR's at Target field this year Carroll or the 23 million dollar man?????

    No one has the guts to say it so I will: Mauer built a career year in the HR category 100% via HGH/Roids just like Brady Anderson and many others before him. Joe is no dummy so he quit the stuff right after signing the contract to preserve his body and to have a nice life after baseball. Now our favorite team is left with a 23 million dollar Casey Kotchman for the next 8 years. Yipeee!! Bad for us........Great for Joe.

    The pick will be Buxton. Ryan/Gardy hate hard throwing strikeout pitchers. Ryan will not stop until he can field a lineup of 9 160# punch n judy hitters that slap it the other way.

    Honestly what contender would have any interest in Pavano even when he is at his peak? Most contenders have AAA or long relievers with more skills than Carl who cost a lot less. Carl is not a guy you want to see the mound in the post season so why trade for him. I bet Terry Ryan wishes he hadnt given up that sandwich pick by resigning Capps as there is no way he gets anything more than a bag of balls or PTBNL in a trade. I encourage you to listen to the latest BA podcast. The Twins FO and scouting dept is a laughingstock. But they are such nice guys they wont be fired.

    The Mariners have Guttierez coming off the DL soon. He is a far better defender than Span and has a better power/speed combo. Both players have checkered injury history and Span's concussion history is a major red flag. I would guess the Mariners think they have a better in house option thus no need to trade. If you want Hultzen or Paxton, Sano will need to be part of the deal plus another prospect.

    You guys are missing the point......Span really isn't worth much to any other team. He is an average to above average CF with zero power and only average speed. Most teams have a guy like this and really Roger Bernadina isn't that much worse than Span....definitely not worse enough for the Nats to give up anything more than a PJ Walters type for him. The Twins are in a SAD, SAD state because they have no tradeable talent and no prospects. Wake me up in 2025!

    I'm sure Solarte told the organization he was not willing to scrap his power to hit it the other way and to be scrappy. He will be the next power hitting stud we let go because of Gardy's philosphy and Terry Ryan's stupidity.

    Another one to add to the laundry list of terrible decisions Terry Ryan has made over the last 7 months. The TWINS have the worst GM in all of baseball. Please resign Terry, the game passed you by 10 years ago. Please quit before you screw up another draft!

    Robbie looks even more stupid by publicly defending this debacle. I understand he is paid to be a homer but why attack yor critics with illogical banter? Professional athletes dont need a cheerleader to stand up for them.

    Maybe he is off the juice? He pulled the greatest power spike outside of Brady Anderson right before his big payday and ever since he is back to being an excellent line drive hitter with no pop. If he were on any other team, we would be laughing and saying said team was screwed by a juicer who pumped up his stats to get the big payay and then quit when the stats were no longer needed. With Mauer's contract, if he is a 5-7 hr a year 3B or 1B his contract will be easily the worst in baseball. You could sign a Casey Kotchman for $500k to give you that sort of production at 1B. HE MUST CATCH FULL TIME TO EVEN COME CLOSE TO HAVING ANY VALUE.

    Because Gardy must always have his cute little no talent all hustle guy in the lineup: hocking, punto, redmond, butera, carroll, clete, komatsu, on, on, on, on. What a waste of a roster spot!

    Danny is not and never was a prospect of any value. He would not have made the bigs on more than 2 or 3 other teams outside of an absolute emergency. The fact that people even mistake him for a prospect speaks to the dire strairs of the Twins minor leagues. He should be nothing more than a AAA afterthought in a good org.

    Who needs power out of the corner infield positions! Between Mauer and Carroll the Twins may not get 5 homers this year. The Twins are a laughingstock!!!

    I have a feeling this year the twins are going to continually shift players from the bigs to the minors. This is what happens when the top levels of your organizatin are filled with nothing but replacement level or below replacemnt level players. These are all interchangeable parts.
