  1. The concussion issues and repeated baserunning blunders keep his value down more than anything. I like WAR but it doesnt account for the two very important factors
  2. I think the game has changed considerably and Ryan/Radcliff will need to adjust big-time to be successful. You hit the nail on the head that teams are no longer willing to give up top prospects for good middle relievers or average big league bats. Because of this, the successful teams are the ones that draft and develop. Pulling off some good trades and strong international signings supplement the draft/develop aspect. It seems that the Twins have done a very poor job the last 10 years drafting and developing and now that they can't find a stupid GM to give them great MiLB prospects for their vets I hope TR realizes that he/they need to do a much better job drafting/developing than they have over the last 10 years or the franchise will be the new/old Pirates.
  3. The Cubs and Stros have solid plans. The Twins have no direction, it appears they are content being stuck in the middle. Heck even competing in the AL Central is somewhat worthless, as the Twins have went ZERO for the playoffs in all but one trip under Gardy. The only way to build a championship team when you don't have unlimited resources is to build a strong system and endure some short term growing pains. It appears TR is not willing to endure the short term pain to build the system. It doesn't really matter what he could've obtained for Willy, Span, Morney, etc the FACT is that these guys will not be part of the next championship calibur team so they should be cashed in for some long-term assets. I hope these hitters have some value this winter but all will be one year older and have checkered injury histories so it is possible that NONE of them have any value other than in a salary dump type trade. I give TR and F- UNLESS the Polads forced him to keep these vets just to try to keep some butts in the seats. If that is the case, the Polads might as well fire TR and act as the GM themselves.
  4. Terry figures he can fix pitching by resigning Marqui and Pavano in offseason.
  5. I wish Terry Ryan in my fantasy league. It is always nice having the clueless manager you can fleece at any time. I'm sure that is how other MLB execs view TR.
  6. Exactly right. It appears the FO has no plan or direction. Being stuck between rebuilding and mediocre is the worst place for a sports team to be.
  7. How will the twins get better without improvisations. the farm system? TR should look at the great work the Cubs and Astros have done this summer to build for the future. It looks like TR would rather have a poor/mediocre product than to build a team that can win in the postseason.
  8. Remember when TR said he was going to address the medical staff during his first presser as GM? The guy is just protecting his buddies so they can continue collecting paychecks. TR is a nice guy but at some point the Polads need to realize that this nice/cheap GM is killing this organization.
  9. Spot on! It is a time for a complete organizational overhaul from the GM to the coaches to the medical staff.
  10. I am now convinced that either Spirit of Dave is Terry Ryan himself or he is the biggest Twins FO booster on earth. How can a guy continually praise the FO especially Ryan when his scouting/drafting has left the Twins with a terrible MiL system and a 90+ loss team in the MLB? Seriously, this guy and his good old boys are clueless. There is no way this team improves over the next 5 years unless they get some starting pitching prospects. That means Span, Willy, and everyone else should be traded NOW. It does them no good to have favorable contracts with hitters when we know they are a 90-100 loss team with those same affordable guys around. Ryan needs to be FIRED immediately before this SHIP SINKS!
  11. Just remember that while Billy was the GM he deferred all scouting and personnel moves to TR and his good ole boys. Billy is responsible for the Mauer contract and other terrible contracts but TR and the Good Ole Boys are the reason there is no talent in the organization. This trade is more of the same.
  12. Well, the haul is better than a bag of balls.....but not by much! What happened to trying to get a young upside arm? These are past their prime prospects with zero upside. Will add some depth at AAA I guess.
  13. Ryan is just as guilty as BS for the BS years. BS was a money man and he relied on TR and his good old boys for perssonnel decisions. TR has made this team worse for the future by not investing on young FA building blocks and failing to spend the full draft allotment to upgrade the farm. If he doesnt cash in the old vets like Willy, Frankie, Span etc for future building blocks he has done a. worse job than BS.
  14. Ummm.....If you throw in Sano and Buxton the Orioles MIGHT consider this deal. Probably the worst trade proposal I have seen on this site which is saying quite a bit.
  15. Bux is probably 5 years from the bigs but it will be fun to watch him grow. If he can develop the hit tool, he could be a star.
  16. How about a season where your team doesn't totally lose interest after the break? This is 3 years in a row which is inexcusable. I didn't realize Sid was still alive and kicking so I wonder if this wasn't a misquote. Sid probably thought he was talking to his old friend Casey Stengel.
  17. This is 3 years in a row the team has essentially given up in the 2nd half of the year, which is pretty tough to defend. I have been a Gardy supporter in the past but with the team likely going into a 3-5 year rebuilding period it may be time to clean house. I highly doubt anything will happen since Terry Ryan has been reluctant to fire the medical staff and scouting department that has failed miserably for years. If Ryan gives up his interim tag, expect a new GM to overhaul the organization top to bottom.
  18. Buxton is a complete tool shed. He is deserving of his high rankings. I am much more concerned about Sano's age than anything else. Like I have stated before some scouts heard that their teams had his real age pegged at 18 when he signed which is why they didnt bid higher. If he is a 22 year old at Beloit with no D and terrible K rate he is a very mediocre prospect
  19. Keep him for what? So you can lose 98 games instead of 101? I don't understand why you would keep a tradeable asset when you can cash him in for something. I am too risk adverse to gamble that he will be good enough over the last 2 months that the Twins will net the draft pick. And if he sucks down the stretch I surely don't want to make him the 12.5 mil qualifying offer.
  20. Looks like Terry Ryan overplayed his hand and may end up left out of the game of musical chairs. With the Marlins as big sellers now (and willing to just dump salary) I fear the Twins are going to get far less than they could've a few days ago. Willingham is probably the only piece the Twins have left that can net a decent pitching prospect and if that is the case he should be gone tomorrow.
  21. Absolutely I would take that haul for Liriano! Is it really worth it to keep him around the rest of the year only to lose him to free agency? Or run the risk of him going back to his old ways so you can't even risk offering him the qualifying offer to gain a draft pick? At this point any live warm body is worth it unless they can sign him to a VERY, VERY, VERY team freindly deal before the deadline. Unfortunately, Terry Ryan may have overplayed his hand as there are very few suitors left and more pitchers on the market than initially thought: Johnson, Big Erv, Shields, etc.
  22. Why would any team give up anything of value for Morneau given his injury(head) concerns, lack of production, and high contract. His salary makes him nearly worthless to other teams unless the Twins eat all but about 5 mil of it......at that point you almost have to keep him and hope he stays healthy.
  23. A bag of balls would be a good return for Carroll. The main goal should be to get his inflated salary off the books for 2013. Anything else is gravy. In a major rebuild you cant afford to waste payroll on an over the hill utility man.
