  1. Now I'm intrigued. What are the other 14 reasons?
  2. Belt high Matt Capps fastball is what that comment looked like to me!
  3. Hopefully not for pitchers. they have enough softball pitchers already...
  4. The pitch clock is alive and well in the minors. I was at an Iowa Cubs game last weekend and I was amazed at how quickly the game moved. I'd adopt that in the bigs immediately. I can't stand how long games take these days. Molitor using his entire bullpen every night is only part of the problem, but one that I don't think can be taken out of the game. Time saving measures shouldn't be impacting the ability of a player or manager to play/manage the game.
  5. I'll just play it safe and blame my wife. I didn't start losing my hair until we got married. Blaming your wife is the safe play, right?
  6. Or double posting all of your replies?
  7. I know that's the rule, but my mom's dad is 88 and still has a fairly nice head of hair. My dad's side is the side with the receding hairline and bald spot on the top of the head. That is the model I seem to be following. I'm looking more and more like the men on my dad's side everyday.
  8. Where were you last year that you saw a real baseball team play?
  9. I'll take that under advisement when that time comes. I still have enough to play around with yet, but it's vanishing quickly.
  10. Brilliance all around. Philly Phanatic with the Lasorda bit and Lasorda beating the Phanatic with it. Bravo! I keep finding myself on another thread and coming back to watch that gif over and over again.
  11. How is that a better way to improve the bottom line over improving the team?! Moving Mauer doesn't put more butts in seats or sell more merchandise. It likely does the exact opposite. His salary isn't the problem, the product on the field is. There are much larger problems with the product on the field than Mauer.
  12. This should cheer you up a bit. I first read the stats portion of your post and somehow read it as the relievers having 200+ more IP than that starters and I wanted to throw something at my computer screen. Then I read it again and was pleasantly surprised. Is that more positive?
  13. Drinking does make it a bit more palatable at times, but I prefer those times to be at the comfort of my own home where it doesn't cost me $13 for a whiskey/coke and I don't have to worry about driving home.
  14. At this point, I'm not sure what more there is to say about the GM thing. It's definitely time for a more lighthearted discussion.
  15. I'm actually starting to feel that they over-market things. There are so many promotions that they've simply become watered down. The "buy special tickets for a promotion" idea is as dumb as it gets, but I understand why they do it. I just don't agree with it. The food and drinks in the ballpark just keep getting pricier every year. It's clear who they've started to market towards as well, adding more bars and more beer options. I was at the game Sunday and in a 7 inning span, I counted no more than two vendors in our section selling anything other than beer. There were vendors constantly in the aisle, usually 3 or 4 at a time. All of them selling beer. After the 7th inning, vendors virtually disappeared entirely. I didn't see a hot dog vendor at all. Some were selling other things too, but the common denominator was that they were selling beer. While I enjoy the local flare of the beers and foods, it comes at the sacrifice of more traditional ballpark fare that falls on the cheaper end of the offerings. I don't go to the ballpark to get drunk, I go for baseball.
  16. Some things just make for great conversation starters.
  17. That sounds like it would be about the time to go back and play Joust or something.
  18. I liked Defender. I played a lot of Centipede and Pac-Man as well. I think my parents still have the Atari, but I've got our NES.
  19. I spent hours playing Breakout and Super Breakout before Tetris came along. I think that I was literally addicted to Tetris. Just saying the word makes me want to go dig the NES out of the closet and hook it up.
  20. Nature is slowly shaving my head. I have no use for a comb or brush either. Finger combing is about all that is required.
  21. That video is hilarious. Most of theirs were pretty good in their hey-day.
  22. I wish that I still had enough hair to have locks at all...
  23. I remember Tanks well. we'd play my dad and he'd kick our butts all of the time.
  24. I tried to find it after I saw it but wasn't able to find it. It's possible it was new at that point and not online yet. Shoot me a link if you do find it. It was brilliant.
