  1. Must be a gambler. Quit before you blow your winnings! I can respect that.
  2. A too long a song about Wong sung by DeJong? Tell me I'm wrong...
  3. They don't need him to play CF. They need him to be a player off the bench that can play the corners. That's not something that Grossman has ever been able to do competently. I have a hard time trusting any defensive metric that claims that Robbie Grossman is a better defender than Carlos Gomez.
  4. Except Gomez can play defense...
  5. It's not too far fetched to believe that the wind would blow the ticket a bit and he'd have to try to step on it multiple times, narrowly missing each time until he finally steps on it only to be seconds too late to catch the train.
  6. My biggest question besides the pitching is the defense. Can the offense pick it up enough to cover the atrocious defense to go with terrible pitching? I don't think they can even if they're firing on all cylinders. My only hope is that the pitching gets better simply because they know they don't have to shut out the opponent. It would certainly make them more watchable though. That defense though, eesh.
  7. Great point. It's one thing to carry a Kinley on the roster when you're rebuilding and are trying to find some diamonds in the rough. It's another when you're telling people that you believe that you're contenders. It's a completely different thing to carry a Phil Hughes and essentially refuse to use him when you're struggling as bad as this team is. This FO seems to handicap their manager consistently. That's a troubling sign. At this point in the season, the FO needs to be finding ways to improve a floundering roster and their decision making doesn't seem to reflect that. They have to admit at some point that they made a mistake by not bringing in a 4th outfielder and bring someone up or in. They've admitted that starting Phil Hughes hurts the team. Now they need to admit that keeping him on the roster is hurting the team. This team simply can't afford to be carrying dead roster spots. You can't win playoff spots in April/May, but you can certainly lose them.
  8. I agree, however taking your best starter (even on an off day) after 60 pitches simply exposes the worst part of the staff. I agree that it's pretty much a lose-lose scenario and the problems are far beyond Molitor's managing. He does contribute to those problems though.
  9. I have much more hope that the offense can start clicking than the pitching. That said, more runs scored should have the pitching at least psychologically. The troubling thing that I see with the bats is the number of poor AB's that are put up, especially in key spots. As long as that continues, I don't see this offense clicking with any sort of consistency. While I believe that the last month is more than a slump, things should at least get better. It's more of a matter of how much better in my view.
  10. I love the idea of this thread! I'm not a superstitious person generally speaking, but I can be really bad when it comes to sports. Unfortunately, my typical routines seem to have run out of luck. None of them seem to be working. Perhaps my posture is off just a bit or my hands aren't quite where they should be when I lift my glass of scotch to my mouth. Unfortunately, film of my previous successful years are on VHS and I no longer have a working VCR.
  11. Except Punto could at least fill in serviceably basically anywhere you put him in the field. Guys like that at least have some value. Grossman "plays" one position brutally and unless pop ups have become en vogue, he's not hitting well enough to justify the roster spot on a underperforming team.
  12. They blew three separate 4 run leads in the first Reds game. Not only does no lead seem safe with this team, but they've shown that they're not even capable of building on leads consistently. Too many poor and/or wasted AB's to string hits together.
  13. Man this team is in trouble. It's May now. Time to start making real roster adjustments. Bring up a guy who can actually field his position to play RF while Buxton is out. The defense is killing the pitchers even more than the pitchers are killing themselves. I'm not advocating changes for the sake of making changes, but something needs to be done with the bullpen and the bench. Clearly what is currently in play is not working. This is getting ridiculous. They're unwatchable right now.
  14. Always one of my favorites. One of the few players that I'd stop and watch an AB if I had a game on in the background. And I'll never forget his laser to 3B to nail Terrance Long going first to third. I tip my cap, Ichiro. It was a pleasure watching you play!
  15. The Rays and Reds were supposed to be that way too... I'm hopeful though. Maybe yesterday's game gave them a little more pep in their step.
  16. Ichiro has always been one of my favorite players. I made sure that I caught at least one game when the Mariners were in town in April. His first 10 years in the league were absurd. His defense and that arm weren't too shabby either.
  17. That was a comedy of errors defensively. 1B needs to call for it. Pitcher needs to know where his 1B is and then stay out of the way. Run may have scored anyway, but their lack of communication guaranteed it. That being said, I love stuff like this. Odd ways walk-off runs are scored are entertaining to me unless they're happening against the Twins.
  18. Ha! A Twins win in shutout fashion can fry the brain. I understand completely!
  19. I think that bravery comes with a certain amount of both of those.
  20. I thought that we were going to their house?
  21. I do actually...I tried and couldn't do it. I even had it typed out. Couldn't muster the courage to hit "POST". You're a stronger man than I. Braver too.
  22. Twins win with a shutout of all things! What a backwards world we live in today!
  23. There's a joke there somewhere... Shouldn't be too hard to find!
  24. Can someone tell me what that squiggly number thing for the Twins in the 8th? I don't recall ever seeing that symbol before.
  25. Jays have them right where they want them: RISP with less than 2 outs.
