  1. I've had heat stroke, so heat is not my friend. Though, I wasn't a fan of heat before that either. Humidity is even harder on me. I've worked and camped in everything from -20 plus wind to 100 plus humidity. Even if I can't move dressed for -20, I can still function. It's hard to dress for 100+ and more difficult for me to function. I'm overly cautious in those conditions. To each their own obviously, but I'll take the cold.
  2. If it got to that point, there likely would be plenty of pain and suffering on my part as well.
  3. That's informative. Having only flown into DFW once in the early morning and upon walking outside immediately walked into a wall of humidity, I had simply assumed that my previous understanding of most of Texas was correct. I learned something today. I'll still take the -20. I'm not a fan of heat. At least it's better than a humid heat though.
  4. "Game-time forecast: 95 deg F (but feels like 101)" But it's a wet heat... Ick. Give me -20 any day. At least I can put more clothes on. I can only take so much off without getting arrested. I don't really want to be arrested.
  5. If you're talking about Barrio in LF, that was already a bar area. It just got rebranded. I'm with you, one new bar is unneeded but I get it. I'm 35 and don't really drink beer (whiskey!!!), but otherwise fit into your demographic and I have no interest in it. Even if I wasn't boycotting the concessions, I wouldn't then either. We simply don't go to a baseball game to drink. We're there to watch a ballgame. I know that we're in the vast minority. I'm more interested in the food options, but even those just keep getting spendier and spendier. We may have one drink at a game, but that's it. It does seem as though they're losing touch with what going to a baseball game should be about. You can have the beer and the bars, but you're just driving away families.
  6. I'm in a similar boat, but I'm in market . I attend the games that I've already paid for, but refuse to buy more. I used to buy concessions at games almost every game we attended. Between the shear cost of those now and the fact that I don't want to give them any more of my money, I've stopped buying anything at all. I don't have kids, but I don't know how a family of 4 on an average income can afford to go to many games. Even kids days on Sunday's seem to have a dwindling following, but that could just be because of the putrid product. Target Field gets less family friendly with each passing year. It's an absolute shame.
  7. Keeping making it hard for people to view said product and keep it affordable for families and that almighty dollar will disappear quickly in the not so distant future. kids are that future dollar.
  8. It has gotten hard to believe any of their attendance figures. Sunday's game was similar. announced was 26k and I would bet that it was in the 18k-20k range as well. Those are the good ones. There have been a few games that I've been to where I'd venture to guess that it's around half of what they announce. Games that have had decent crowds, Toronto in particular, turn out to be home games for the opposition.
  9. Where is Buxton? On the way to AAA to make room for May?
  10. Perhaps, but he's been in the field for all of his rehab starts I believe. That includes at least one game in RF. But I'd venture to guess that you are correct. Plouffe's been bothered by his knee again. Perhaps Moli gives him the night off.
  11. I've seen several sources saying Sano is in town and activated for today. Park sent down to AAA.
  12. Polhad has said many times that TR has never been turned down when asking for money on a free agent. Money is a crutch. If Tampa can put an extended run together in the conditions they're saddled with, this team has no excuses. Even if finances are a problem, TR spending habits are a larger problem.
  13. Agreed. At this point, I'm just hoping that it starts instead of this treading water that we've been seeing for the last 5 years.
  14. I enjoy the enthusiasm...and you're right, that is how baseball works. 'Tis a funny game.
  15. Those are the comments I was referring to. I'd have more hope for Polhad's comments if they weren't reported by Sid. He does still have his moments though.
  16. The Cubs improved rapidly because they unloaded their bad contracts, whether it be via trade or outright releasing them. That freed up time for cheaper, more effective players and eventually to their stud farm system that they developed via unloading trades of the few valuable vets they had. This FO is not that far thinking and that's backed up by TR's comments.
  17. Well that was an insightful, invigorating read to start the day! Such joy it has brought me! It gives me a "What could possibly go wrong today?" vibe. In all seriousness though, I think this is laid out pretty well. There are positive signs in the not so distant future. However, those signs are obscured by hanging tree branches that are a delusional understanding of where this team is. Playing aging veterans over kids that are showing their readiness in AAA does nothing for you. It doesn't help you win games. It doesn't help you fill seats. It doesn't help you sell more of your expensive concessions or fill your ever expanding plethora of bars. It simply brings more of the same. More of the same mediocrity. More of the same complacency. More of the same apathy from fans. More of stupid baseball and the losses it brings with. With the recent comments from TR, I'm convinced that he can't see the forest through the trees. That's alarming to me in so many ways. We've already endured four recent 90+ loss seasons. How much more patience can this FO and ownership expect the fans to exhibit when they exhibit no inkling of making the necessary changes.
  18. I read that and my side instantly started to hurt. That does not sound fun at all. Good luck, Mr. Hughes.
  19. ...and there were books...books are a bunch of pieces of paper bound together with a front and back cover...anyway, there were these books with the names, addresses, and phone numbers of everyone in town in them! They also had the phone numbers of pizza joints - yes, we had to call to order a pizza. Yes, they did deliver. No, not by horse and buggy.
  20. I'm going to need a new computer monitor after reading that Sano was in RF again. They aren't as resistant to fists as I'd hoped.
  21. I like how you laid that out. I'd prefer to hang on to Santana as well, but am not opposed to dealing him. With the group that you mentioned that are already here or waiting in the wings, it would be nice to have at least one veteran in the group. Gibson has the years, but Santana has the experience.
  22. All about the aerodynamics for me since I'm usually moving at the time, thumb in.
