  1. I think Berrios can be that guy, but its far from certain at this point. You have one rotation proven commodity, that's it. I wouldn't consider any of the bullpen names you listed to be shutdown. A few of them are solid, but none are shutdown. I agree that there are no guarantees, but there's a point of maximizing your potential that needs to be weighed here. If trading Santana affords you greater possibility of seriously competing down the road and you get a deal to your liking, I don't know why you wouldn't take it. This is why many wanted Dozier traded last offseason.
  2. You answered your own question. They don't have 3 good starters with Santana and they have zero shut down arms in the bullpen. In order to improve the pitching on this team, they're going to have to make trades. They're not going to spend money to acquire it and they don't have a full rotations worth of rotation prospects in the minors that are close or at all.
  3. If you're insinuating that the Twins are in a position to make a deep playoff push, then we've been watching different teams. The Astros are in that position where another front line starter with the experience of a Santana would be a valuable piece.
  4. If you're a playoff team needing another starting pitcher that might put you in a position to make a serious run, then yes I'd trade for Santana for a near ready pitching prospect. I need the experience now, the prospect doesn't give that too me.
  5. The worst reason to trade Santana (or anybody) is because the FO hasn't made a signature move. That's just making a move for the sake of making a move. That's absurd and no way to run an organization. That said, I'm thinking long term and still see this season as an evaluation year. I'm not sold that this team will hold on to first place at the end of the season. Looking to the future, I'd trade him. Like Dozier, I don't want them to give him away, but I wouldn't hesitate if an offer comes that's to their liking.
  6. If your suit goes in your garment bag and your garments go in your suitcase, what goes in your dopp kit?
  7. This is what I was going to go with too. Who knows if I'd ever face him again.
  8. If I could scrounge it up, I'd be buckling in right next to you.
  9. And much richer to be able to afford such craziness.
  10. how long it'll take to colonize Mars?
  11. The Cards are my favorite NL team, so I remember this bomb very well. I remember laughing hysterically at the reactions of pretty much everyone there. I also remember how quiet it got so quickly. Tom Verducci had a nice interview a week or two ago with Trout and Pujols and how they help each other. It was pretty good insight between how two of the games best hitters learn from each other.
  12. Like you, I'm no fan of Molitor as manager and have never liked the hiring. There's no doubt that the FO did him no favors with the bullpen they gave him, but his mismanagement makes it even worse. I fear these two games will be looked at as the turning point of the season because of the bullpen mismanagement. What could have been mostly resolved after one day will now be extended at least into tomorrow. I fear it'll be longer though.
  13. Molitor can't control anything in your scenario either, but it's still a loss. I think most people being negative towards Molitor are looking at how he managed the pen. That is firmly within his control. He used three of his tired relievers before bringing in one of the fresher call up arms. By that point not only was the game lost, but he taxed the bullpen more too. That's what people are looking at. Even if it worked for him, I'd be complaining about it because he's still in the same situation tomorrow. That's on the manager. The individual execution of pitches is obviously not on a manager.
  14. Maybe, maybe not. I think today's goal was preserve the bullpen first, win the game second once the bullpen was needed. Limit the long-term damage even if it costs the team today's game.
  15. That's true and I agree, but the players aren't the ones mismanaging the bullpen. Tomorrow, this team will be short in pen options again because their manager did them no favors by allowing them to get some rest. The players aren't responsible for Molitor blowing through his bullpen game in and game out. It does eventually cost the team games and also injuries to players which also costs the team games. I'm only blaming Molitor for his in game management. Today was embarrassing. Hopefully Berrios can bail his manager out tomorrow. Players not stepping up to the call happens. That's baseball. There are plenty of times where the situation is reversed and the players succeed despite Molitor's managing. That's also baseball. However, the managers job is to put his players in the best spot to succeed and he's done a poor job of that lately.
  16. This is what get me the most I think. Even if you bring in Rucinski and Wheeler and they get shelled but eat up the remaining innings and save the rest of the pen, long-term that's a win for me if I'm Molitor. I'd have most if not all of my bullpen options back starting tomorrow. Now he's screwed himself by putting himself in the same situation he was in today. If Wheeler and Rucinski get pummeled and I lose, so be it as long as I'm able to rest my entire bullpen in the process moving forward.
  17. All of that because your manager can't manage a bullpen. Cool.
  18. That's assuming those guys are available, but yes. That's still a short list of rested options if you can call it that.
  19. And what does Paulie do tomorrow if Berrios struggles? His pen is still spent because he didn't use his fresh arms until it was too late.
  20. If that's all Molitor is going to use, what's the difference?
  21. Pitchforks and torches are coming out again!
  22. It's sprinkling again...better roll the tarp back out!
  23. Me neither, that was a joke. I was reading this thread as they were rolling the tarp out without any fear of my phone getting wet.
  24. No doubt. It's rained for 30 seconds multiple times. Nothing has changed on the radar. Just a waste of time really.
