    I'm less concerned with Gibson because I think his leash is nearing the end and that will work itself out sooner rather than later in a season where I don't really care about wins much. I only care about the progression of the players needed in the future - a future that is looking more and more likely sans Gibson. Buxton's struggles are a much different story. I think his issues are more between the ears than physical. I'd prefer him to work the kinks out with the big league club, but there may be a point where they'll have no choice but to send him down. I hope that it doesn't get to that point. I've been fine with the month long evaluation period, but it's time to start tweaking the roster to bring other deserving guys up at the expense of non-performing veterans like Gibson.

    Leave it to Molitor to want to mess with what's working. Keep him in the pen and give Berrios the chance if it comes to it. A two pitch mix is not going to work in the rotation. That's already been proven.

    This is where I sit too, but I'm not going to give him much rope. I want to see early results and move on quickly if its just more of the same.

    This is kind of my mindset. Not getting excited about the opening day bullpen was pretty much a foregone conclusion when I read the names reporting to camp and figuring that the youth movement wouldn't happen. Just more of the same...hard to get overly excited about much on this team. Yet, here I am anxiously awaiting Opening Day anyway!!!

    I think this is one good thing that comes out of not dealing Dozier. That's one extra slot that can be used to evaluate the arms that are already here. I'd have preferred a deal to be made, but it's not all bad that one wasn't.

    I agree completely that this team needs to draft and develop better, but if they can do something with the talent that is already in the organization that can maybe make it better, why is that a bad thing? Perhaps a diamond in the rough emerges. Perhaps this helps the better pitching talent in the organization take another step up. You have to start somewhere. Even if they hit on the their draft picks, there is still that wait for them to get to the big leagues. They may as well try to improve the talent that will emerge in the time between now and then as best they can.

    Agree completely. It's far too early to be making any broad judgments in any direction. Even without much activity this offseason so far, I want to see how they operate during the season as well. As you pointed out, that timeframe is more important than the offseason. Since this FO hasn't navigated a season yet, there is still much to learn about them.

    While I agree with this completely, what is done/not done from April-September is often set up by what they do/do not do from November-January. I agree that a little patience is needed for the new FO, but that doesn't mean that we can't be a little disappointed by the inactivity either.

    I like how you put this Mike. I expected a Dozier trade to give a bump to the rotation and clear a logjam at 2B. Regardless of how wise it was to walk away, it didn't happen. That is disappointing. They got a catcher. Not disappointing! Sign a FA or two for the bullpen. Hasn't happened yet. Disappointed so far. I'm also disappointed that Molitor is still around. That's pretty much all that I was expecting this offseason. So you can see why I'm disappointed.

    There are people that aren't going to be happy regardless of what the Twins do. I'm not asking for the team to be rebuilt in one offseason, particularly this one. I'm asking for them to at least start down that road. They don't need to travel the full length of that road, just start down it. The four moves the 2013 Cubs made were at least marginal improvements and efforts to improve the club. That's more than what this team has done thus far. All that I really expected this offseason was one trade and two or three other FA acquisitions to the big league club. I don't feel that's being overly ambitious. Those are fairly low expectations of a 103 loss club in my view.

    I don't think anyone is clamoring for a "whole bunch of moves". To date, they've made one meaningful addition to the major league roster. The bullpen remains untouched and the two trade pieces they do have remain on the roster. I'm not suggesting they make deals for the sake of making deals, but there have been moves to be made that have not in FA. I suspect some bullpen arms will be brought in eventually, but even from someone not expecting much, this offseason has been disappointing. Status quo is not something a 103 loss team should be doing even if they believe that they will have improvement from within. I don't think it unreasonable to expect more than one move to bolster the emerging talent that is on this team.

    They've also signed Koji Uehara and traded for Davis to bolster the bullpen. They've signed Brett Anderson to compete for their rotation (if he can stay on the field). They've added plenty of organizational depth as well. That's more than the Twins have done. I'm not trying to compare the Cubs to the Twins, I'm simply trying to point out that the team that won the World Series isn't standing pat, so why is a team that finished on the complete opposite end of the spectrum doing so? Its meant as a general statement, nothing else. Even for those of us that have some patience, that's a pretty tough sell.

    This. The Cubs, winners of 103 games and a World Series have been far more active in improving their roster than the Twins, losers of 103 games and the #1 draft pick have. I realize the Cubs have lost some players, but they've worked to replace them. I'm not suggesting that this will be a quick turnaround, but that's about 180 degrees the opposite of what should be expected. They have far less to do to maintain an elite winning team than what needs to be done to get the Twins just back to respectability let alone a winner.

    Agreed. There's no reason not to trade from organizational positions of depth to fill holes. The only thing I worry about is that you start relying on fewer and fewer of those guys panning out. With a sketchy track record of hitters coming up and struggling to adjust to MLB hitting, that's a concern. That being said, you can't be paralyzed as an organization like that. The pitching has to be improved somehow and it isn't going to all come from within. Trading some of those pieces becomes one of those means.

    Your drunken decision making doesn't appear to be as poor as mine can be. Last time my wife and I had happy hour at home I ended up buying a $90 Hootie and the Blowfish record on Amazon. So I think you'll be okay finding that third vote, and perhaps a few more. I, on the other hand...

    Thanks for the reply. What I take from your response is that my initial take was correct in that the main difference is probably the aggressiveness with it. I think we each touched on similar if not the same points with the farm system talent and development and some of the free agent signings. I simply feel that they could have done more sooner with the little they did have. I agree completely on the FA bit. There's no reason to spend money on a FA when you aren't ready to win. It's wasting the money and the talent you just bought. Plus, you may have someone emerge to fill that void unexpectedly and can focus on other areas of concern with the money.

    To some extent, I believe that teams make their own luck. Poor game management and compounding mistakes with other mistakes allows an unlucky bounce here or there to play a major role in the outcome of the game. That doesn't totally account for a broader look at things like when you play a team, whether you're going against aces every third night, etc but I think it plays a part in it.

    Without trying to reignite our previous discussion, now that I see your logic, can follow it, and even agree with some it I'm curious to know if you feel that the rebuild has gone as well as could be in your view? Or as expected? Has it taken too long or should we expect to have to continue to wait? Now that I see your logic, I think the main difference between our opinions may be the aggressiveness involved. I feel that they could have been more aggressive with the pieces they had and made better FA signings whereas you feel that they did what they could. Is that fair? I think your last line is very important to how this season goes. Regardless of whether you think they're rebuilding or not, hiring a manager with Molitor's resume was a mistake IMHO. I never liked it.
