  1. I don't think that we get enough with Gordon as the centerpiece of a trade to make it worthwhile. I'd prefer that we wait until the offseason and break the bank for a #1 or #2 quality starter.
  2. I watched it several times last night, and one of the most amazing things about it was how after he leaped to touch third, he somehow kept his feet and didn't slow down. Like Randy Moss speed with Barry Sanders balance.
  3. Great play by Polanco. Kepler and Polanco kept that inning from getting ugly. Now, we need Berrios to locate his curveball.
  4. My college is the Pomona Sagehens (Pomona-Pitzer for athletics) -- "a small flightless bird that plays dead when cornered." The only teams we played (soccer) where I felt the mascot advantage were the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs and Whittier Poets . . . not that a Poets wouldn't intimidate a Sagehen in real life, just that "Poets" is a dumb mascot.
  5. I don't like the idea of trading anything if value for Neshek, but would be fine with it if they could get him at a steal and sign him up for next year. Either way, I'd be fine with signing Neshek as a free agent this off-season.
  6. So the Royals are better than the Astros. We're 8-4 against the Royals . . . .
  7. One statistic that has been bothering me lately is k/9. If one guy pitches one inning and strikes out one batter, and gets the other two out on batted balls, he has a 9 k/9. Another guy strikes out one guy in an inning but gives up 3 hits and 3 walks, and he has a 9 k/9, even though it took him 9 batters to get his one strikeout. We should measure k/plate appearance, not per 3 outs.
  8. I'm hoping we think big and support this surprisingly good team. Maybe we can finish off the Giants today, who are now 16 back of the Rockies, 13 back of the DBacks, and still without MadBum for a while. Then, see if they'll dump Cueto's salary on us for cheap.
  9. Unless I'm writing a brief. Briefs are rarely brief.
  10. I'm in Santa Fe on Mountain time. I love my Saturday morning Liverpool games. Can't imagine getting up at 4:30 am for the early game, though. I definitely enjoy having baseball games at reasonable times, so I don't have to stay up past midnight! And on the weekends, games start in the morning.
  11. Isn't there another thread or two where people are talking about the bullpen? I understand venting over the last two games, but this is getting ridiculous.
  12. What many here were saying last season and over the off-season may be the proper formula for getting peak performance from Mauer -- give him some rest. He's been rested more this season, and I hope they continue to rest him so he can perform near this level for the whole season.
  13. On the Game Thread yesterday, there were all sorts of doomsday predictions. That makes sense as those were two very tough losses to stomach. However, this may be an opportunity for this team to show some character. I really hope so. The relief pitching situation is a no win. Sure, the FO could have done more in the offseason, but what's the point of rehashing that over and over again. What do we do now? We don't want to trade prospects. Some of our best prospects are hurt or not ready. Looks like we're stuck with what we have. So it'll be a rollercoaster ride for the rest of the season while we figure out whether to fish or cut bait on several of these guys. I like the Nick's summary, and would add that there are very encouraging signs in our developing young core players. Sure, they all have had slumps and bad moments, but they have dusted themselves off and gotten back in there. After he endured a historically bad slump, seeing Sano hit a homer yesterday was great. I hope Rosario responds with a great game today (I think he will).
  14. The Rockies seem to have figured out how to not hit to Buxton tonight. They've hit quite a few out to Grossman. Smart team. Grossman is brutal.
  15. Hughes is smoke and mirror. Just the one mirror . . . and a little smoke.
  16. And that person finds themself very amusing.
