  1. The weather was just fine out in San Fran and he gave up 7. When he pitched in a climate controlled dome in Tampa he gave up 6 runs, and his best start of the year was on a cold Minnesota day in April. No, my friends, the cold weather is not what's keeping Nolasco from pitching well. 31Mar Chicago - 65F, 5 ER in 6 IP 06Apr Cleveland - 43F, 5 ER in 4 IP 12Apr Minnesota - 53F, 1 ER in 8 IP 18Apr Kansas City - 69F, 5 ER in 5.2 IP 24Apr Tampa - 72F (dome), 6 ER in 6 IP 02May Minnesota - 56F, 3 ER in 9 IP 07May Cleveland - 65F, 3 ER in 6 IP 13May Minnesota - 51F, 3 ER in 6 IP 18May Minnesota - 69F, 3 ER in 5 IP 25May San Francisco - 67F, 7 ER in 4.2 IP Not pretty any way you shape it. If he needs temps of 70+ to pitch well then the AL central is a bad place to pitch early and late in the season. The temperature logic seems suspect at best.
  2. I'm a little late to this one, so maybe any rosey feelings I had after the team left San Diego have dissipated, but I can't see the Twins doing any better than 6-6 in the next 12, for 6-9 over the 15. That's best case scenario. I think 3-12 is a very real possibility.
  3. This wins the internet.
  4. I can't get behind Jarod Burton. I think it's time the Twins sent him down and brough up some youth. He might be rebounding from some early season trouble that saw his ERA balloon, but I don't think he's made the switch, at least not for the long term. Cut bait~
  5. Yu vs Phil, I've had that marked on my calendar for a few days now. I'm hoping for dueling 1-hitters with Phil taking a complete game 1-hit shutout for the win thanks to a 9th inning dong from Mr. Beans.
  6. He needs to stop giving up long balls. And some legitimate OF contenders would help with all of the fly balls he's giving up.
  7. I don't like forcing projections on players, especially ones who have not seen time at or above AA (Sano/Buxton). Next season we see Aaron Hicks in CF with Arcia/Parm/Cola in LF/RF, take your pick. Buxton would have to make huge strides the rest of this season to be up early in 2015, and Sano still has to prove himself at AAA after losing 2014. The OF a year from now looks similiar to how it looks this year but with Arcia hopefully healthy and Hammer on someone else's DL.
  8. you win the internet for today.
  9. Dear brother, When Arcia and Hammer return from their Rochester vacations, who will the Twins cast off the roster, and what should be make of another horrendous effort from Ricky NoLOLasco?
  10. I very much enjoyed this recap.
  11. Plouffe has been pleasant, but I think Dozier has been the best. At the end of 2013 I think most people wanted to know if Dozier's 2nd half was for real. He is proving that it was and becoming even better on both sides of the ball. Brian Dozier is having a career year!
  12. Pitchers have adjusted. There aren't many bats in the Twins lineup to fear; no need to nibble at the edges and risk walking their patient hitters. Attack, attack, attack. Everyone so far is correct, the Twins hitters need to adjust. If more guys can't start making solid contact, pitchers will continue to challenge Mn hitters
  13. I think Herrmann and Nunez/Santana are the two moves made when Arcia and Hammer return. I still like CC as a bench bat. He's proved all he needs to prove at AAA; he needs to stay in MLB and figure it out.
  14. Praise for the coaching staff, but none for the manager. And what about Rick Anderson. I love to hate that guy. Does he deserve any credit for the resurgent Phil Hughes, or is that more related to Phil just getting the job done and keeping the ball in the park?
  15. I'm not advocating for sending Ricky down to AAA, I think the Twins can and should give him a long leash because of the contract they signed him too, but he hasn't looked better than average this season, except for his 1-run outing against the Royals. Maybe he is hurt, or maybe he just hasn't gotten into work. His FIP and xFIP are better than his numbers, but he's always been a guy who has had better peripherals. I'm not expecting him to be a front of the rotation guy, but he isn't giving the Twins value on the mound. He's given up 10 HR in his 60.1 innings of work (1.49/9ip). It's not pretty, questionable outfielders aside. I wonder if he ends up with a phantom injury, or if the Twins just keep running him out there every 5 days.
  16. Is Ricky Nolasco hurt, or just hurting the Twins? What should the Twins do with their off-season acquisition with Meyer and May and several other gentlemen doing quality work down in AAA? After today's clunker, Nolasco now surrendered more earned runs(41) than strikeouts recorded (40). What should the Twins do with Ricky?
  17. http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400_9601330.jpg This week we discuss the Twins shift to six-man rotations in Cedar Rapids and Fort Myers, Dozier's chances of being a 40/40 guy (and a related tangent about Jose Canseco in 1988), what the Twins will do when Mike Pelfrey, Oswaldo Arcia, and Josh Willingham are healthy, and a change in the Twins' mentality. We pick a pitcher and hitter of the week, and talk about Minor Leaguer Zack Granite when we go down on the pond. This week we were lucky to be joined by Fox Sports One's Gabe Kapler. Kap, as he is affectionately known, is a 12 year MLB veteran, and hosts a couple of shows on FS1, including Fox Sports Live and MLB Whip Around. He talks about his path to the majors, and weighs in on batter perparation and making adjustments to pitchers, a couple of topics very close at hand for Twins Aaron Hicks and Chris Colabello. We ran long on Twins news this week, so we had to cut the Beer and Around the League segments, but do not fret, we will be back next week at full strength. Thanks for listening! Source
  18. Get E Rolf on Twins Hangouts. maybe his worthless brother too.
  19. If Suzuki mysteriously has to come out of the game and Pinto has to C Gardy would then have to pinch hit for a pitcher, BFD, Colabello makes a fine PH, and that Santana kid wouldn't be a bad addition late in the game either with his speed. Maybe Gardy's therapist is having him face his biggest fears to prove that they're not real.
  20. Here's a question. How bad would Hicks have to be from the left side before the Twins directed him to stop switch hitting altogether, especially when Hicks says he feels more comfortable from that side, a side that he sees 70% of his ABs from?
  21. "Seattle isn't terrible. They enter this series a .500 team, which puts them in the middle of the AL West and the midst of a very large pack of teams that are somewhat viable Wild Card teams (which includes the Twins, by the way.)" As a Seattlite who's had a chance to watch the Mariners regularly this season, I think saying the M's arent terrible is an understatement. They look to be a fairly well rounded team and despite being in a very competetive AL West, continue to stay around .500. I also think calling the Twins a viable wild card is a big stretch. Yes, they're also flirting with .500, but there is a big gap between the M's and the Twins. It's not close. The Twins could take this series at home, but they'll need their bats to stay hot and the pitching staff to keep the M's off the board. I think the M's take the series behind a strong performance by King Felix on Sunday. The Twins strikeout a lot this season, and even though the King hasn't been as sharp as seasons past, he should tear through the Twins lineup, which is disappointing, but should be fun to watch, even for Twns fans.
  22. If Escobar keeps hitting, the Twins need to keep playing him. He's not the long term answer or the SS of the future, but he's the SS of RIGHT NOW and he's doing a darn good job with his opportunity. #Eddie400. And of course, everytime Eddie gets a big hit you get to make jokes and tell everyone "Drinks on me tonight at the Esco-Bar"
  23. I think you're looking at something different than the rest of us. A good day from Arcia and Herrmann does not correlate to everyone who gets sent down doing awesome. Have you heard of Pedro Florimon?
