  1. I hope that you did not just jinx the bullpen.
  2. You make a good point. But you left out Plouffe at .108. It seems that a lot of us would like to see more shuffling of the lineup in the hope that someone can step up. But Gardy/Ryan don't seem to want to do this. I wish we knew what they are thinking.
  3. If Twins sweep Seattle and then start losing again when Gardenhire returns, then it might make sense for Gardenhire to take some more vacations.
  4. Angels get shut out for the second game in a row after getting 9 runs against the Twins. I bet they wish that we could be in their division.
  5. Be glad that you were not at the game. I fought 2 hours of traffic to get to Anaheim for the misery of watching the Twins get outhit 15 to 0.
  6. According to the Twins website, the soreness is normal after this type of surgery and they are waiting for Morneau to say that he is ready to play. Let's hope that this is correct, because Morneau is a proven hitter when he is healthy. I agree with you about the importance of the bench players, but Morneau could be a very positive force (or appealing trade bait) if he can get hot.
  7. It seems likely that at least one of these guys could stick in the majors. And it's not as if bringing them up is going to hurt our playoff chances.
  8. I share your hope for someone new who can make the team better.
  9. Thanks again for these reports. They are always interesting.
  10. An eight game losing streak for the Red Wings. What major league team does that remind me of?
  11. Thomas made the best catch of the night last night against the Angels. But he also looked terrible at the plate. Maybe there is some potential for him, possibly to at least help Rochester win some games.
  12. Tonight, a day after getting 9 runs and 15 hits against the hitless Twins, the Angels got shut out (and only 3 hits) against Toronto. The Angels have had a terrible season, except against the Twins. And it was agonizing last night waiting for the first hit of the game, which never came. Meanwhile, the Angels were racking up 15 hits. Do we have much of a chance against decent teams? Would the Twins current roster be in first place if they all played together on a AAA team?
  13. To be fair to Hendricks, if Span had been able to hold on to Morales line drive in the first inning, then Hendricks may have had more confidence after that. And a lot of the hits early on were grounders between first and second and between second and third, not up the middle or in the air. There were 4 or 5 ground balls that the Twins dove for and missed by inches. Hendricks looked pissed as he walked to the dugout after getting pulled. It's clear that he is trying his best. He also had good velocity, but seemed to lack an "out" pitch. Hendricks seemed good in spring training and maybe he just needs a win or two to develop more confidence. And it's not as though he had done that much worse than the other starters.
  14. Reality checks can be painful, and this one is difficult to dispute.
  15. I have been going to games at Angel's stadium for 15+ years, and have occasionally been able to get seats behind home plate. I think that the rocks definitely make it harder for a non-tall lefthanded batter to see the ball when batting against a tall, right handed pitcher who has a high release point. Also, it does appear that Weaver pitches better at home than away -- http://www.fangraphs.com/splits.aspx?playerid=4235&position=P&page=0&split=ha&type=full. The rocks could be a factor in this.
  16. I was at the game tonight and felt like a Cubs fan -- waiting for a first hit that never came. I took my wife, who does not follow baseball. She likes the food, the atmosphere and the people watching. She asked me if the Twins have been this bad all year. When I said yes, she asked how I can watch all the games on TV. We left after the middle of the 8th inning. I did not want to witness the celebration of what looked like an almost certain no hitter. I was at Game 5 of the AL championship series in 2002, and had to endure Adam Kennedy hitting three home runs, and the Angels jubilation at winning the AL championship. I still get depressed when I remember how bad they beat us that day. When your team gets totally slaughtered, it is painful. And I would like to roast that stinking rally monkey on my grill and feed him to my dog. But I remain hopeful that next year the Twins will be a lot better.
  17. What I actually said was: "But, apparently, Gardy does not want to hurt Span's feelings." That is a statement of opinion, not fact. Take the word "apparently" out of the sentence, and what you are saying would be a fair criticism. I continue to believe that Revere would make more good plays in centerfield than Span, and that Gardenhire missed the boat with the plan to put Revere in left field. Based on the games that I have seen, I believe that Revere is faster than Span, takes a better route to the ball and makes catches that Span could not make. Just my opinion, which I am willing to debate.
  18. Seth, I think that you would be a better GM than Ryan. What you are saying makes a lot of sense. Let the top prospects develop some more and don't drop them into a losing environment. And see what you have with the older prospects. If only half of what you suggest come true, I will be happy. It would be great if at least one of Walters, Mastroianni, Slama and Manship could catch on and be good in 2013 or 2014. On the other hand, I suspect that Ryan will not be as aggressive as you are suggesting. That does not seem to be the "Twins Way."
  19. I was at the game tonight, and you have capsulized what I was thinking on the way home.
  20. I was at tonight's game, and Hendricks had velocity but limited movement. It also seemed like most of the early hits were grounders that found the gaps, and the fielding was less than stellar. I am not ready to give up on Hendricks, but he did not look good tonight. As for the organization being broken, I hope that those posters who are touting the minor league prospects turn out to be correct. Also, based on what I saw tonight, I won't be surprised if we get the #1 pick next year.
  21. Are you saying that Span is a better defender in center than Revere? Or that Revere has a good enough arm to play right field? Or are you saying that we should always defer to Gardy (or never speculate as to what he might be thinking) because he has so much experience? I base my opinion on watching both Span and Revere play center and on the indisputable fact that Span has a good enough arm to play right field, while Revere would be a disaster there. I am also taking into account the way that Gardenhire spoke about Span being his centerfielder during spring training. It seemed to me at the time that he was trying to make Span feel secure. Just my opinion, but that's what I thought at the time. At this point, we are getting almost no production from right field and Revere might provide a spark if Gardy would make room for him in the lineup by moving Span. Since Willingham seems unable/unwilling to play right field (and is barely able to play left), it seems to me that the only rational way to get Revere into the lineup would be in center. Also, Span would provide a huge defensive upgrade over Doumit/Plouffe/Thomas in right. And Revere is fun to watch, which would be a blessing in the dark days of this terrible season. As for Gardy, I would trade him and our #2 pick in the upcoming draft for Mike Scioscia.
  22. And tomorrow Weaver will be pitching. I wonder what odds Vegas would give against Weaver pitching a shutout tomorrow?
  23. Others may disagree, but it looked to me like there was not much energy, and like the hitters were not making much effort to focus at the plate. And when they made outs, they did not seem very disappointed. Maybe I am just projecting my own frustration.
  24. It seemed that tonight that the Twins were not trying very hard -- like they gave up early and just wanted to go home. So I might sell my dog if he kept deliberately urinating in my shoes. I watched almost all the games last year, despite the terrible play, but it's especially painful when it seems like the players are not trying.
