  1. This is a great thread -- lots of insightful points and every poster has exhibited passion, intelligence and respect for other viewpoints. I would love to see Mauer move up to #2 this year, for all of the reasons that have been given. But the arguments for him staying at #3 are almost as persuasive for me.
  2. I would love to see Thome back and agree that he would probably make this season better for us fans. However, with the Twins in a rebuilding mode, I would be concerned about taking at bats from young players who need to be tested.
  3. Would it also make sense to be ready to keep a spot open to claim some other team's promising player off waivers, if such player seems better than someone on the Twins' roster?
  4. Thanks for making this clear. I am not sure how close that you came to the line, because the location of the line is not entirely clear. However, your effort to cooperate with the intent of the policy is appreciated, along with the fact that you have been one of the more active and valuable members of TD.
  5. This is a very encouraging report. If Santana can establish himself as a consistent SS who can hit, then this will help a lot in the Twins effort to get back to being a contending team. Are there any other young shortstops in the Twins' system who have similar potential?
  6. I believe that jokes are always allowed as long as they don't violate any of the rules (and are not directed against another member). Yes, this is a serious thread, but sometimes a bit of levity provides comic relief.
  7. Not as hard as all of the beautiful women wearing minimal clothing.
  8. How about hiring Thome as a special hitting coach to help young players?
  9. Yes, that was what I was thinking. And even though it never gets very cold in Southern California, I was definitely sharing in the depression.
  10. There is baseball, my friend, glorious in its detail and complexity. Now that the Twins are actually playing games, there is much more to talk about, and as spring blossoms appear and people focus more on what's happening every day, I expect that there will be a lot less for the moderators to worry about.
  11. Thank you my old friend. On a more topical note, Colabello is my hero of today's game and I hope that he keeps it up.
  12. I hope that he does not hurt himself by trying to come back too soon, in an effort to reduce his embarrassment.
  13. That's OK. My main goal was to try to lead the discussion away from more sensitive topics.
  14. Don't you think that his value might go a lot higher as the trade deadline approaches?
  15. Twins now leading 4-2! Three RBI for Morneau.
  16. Amen. I believe that we may have to be patient during his rookie season, but that the upside could be amazing.
  17. I know that we have agreed as a group that spring training stats mean little or nothing, but as a point of information only I would note that Rosario is batting ,500 (2 for 4 for the season).
  18. Even if the radar gun is fast, the strikeout to end the inning seems like a good thing. Thanks for these posts!
  19. It appears that Arcia pulled his intercostal muscle on Friday. It is unknown when he will be able to play again.
  20. I like this analysis.
  21. FYI -- CBS Sportsline is also tracking this game.
  22. Yes, but this is a career where employees often skip college then are washed up in their 30's.
  23. You guys are great. Unbelievably, the game is not being broadcast in Southern California.
  24. I have read some positive analysis about Dozier in other threads and it seems to me that he might be decent this year. If he can just hit better than Casilla, that would be an improvement over last year.
  25. I share you view on this, my brother. It has been a long, bleak winter, baseball-wise, and I desperately need to start seeing some box scores. Intellectually, I agree that spring training stats may not mean much, BUT I am very much looking forward to the first box score of the year.
