  1. Maybe the concern is that Summer's Eve might lead to premarital sex?
  2. Sorry about that -- I have now freed up some space.
  3. Nick, would you agree that perhaps it was not a good idea to call up Carlos Gomez when they did? I felt at the time that he would have benefited from more time working on fundamentals in the minors.
  4. You may be correct about the cancer characterization. I just don't know. But it seems to me that he is too old and too expensive for a team that is in rebuilding mode.
  5. It seems to me that telling someone that what he's saying "makes no sense" is an invitation to feud. But telling someone that what he's saying "makes no sense to me" is an invitation to engage in further discussion. And if the response is not persuasive, then you can completely disagree and explain why you still believe that they are totally wrong. You are clearly very articulate. I have no doubt that you can adjust enough to say all that you want to say without violating the policy. Indeed, I think that you may eventually come to love the challenge of totally destroying an idiotic position while showing the greatest possible respect for your fellow Twins fans who you believe are mistaken.
  6. Thanks for calling my attention to that grievous typo -- I have now fixed it.
  7. I think that "nonsense" may be slightly more insulting than "makes no sense", but neither phraseology contributes to respectful debate. A preferred response would be "makes no sense to me because..." If we argue with logic instead of insults, then TD will have more "meat" and less gristle.
  8. It takes intelligence and wisdom to utterly destroy a person's position without attacking the person. There are plenty of boards out there where people can engage in personal attacks. If someone likes reading such attacks or feuding, there are other places to do this. Here is a link to one of such sites. TD was conceived as a place where you can argue as passionately as you wish. You are perfectly free to tell someone that you believe that they are "absolutely wrong" then explain why you think that. But nothing good will ever come from characterizing someone's positions as "idiotic", "ridiculous", "stupid", or "clownish". This only leads to feuds. Again, there are other sites to go to for feuding and personal insults. In my opinion, those other sites are closer to a lowest common denominator than TD. Frodaddy, you are clearly a very intelligent person. I urge you to give some thought to the benefit of having a place where we can disagree as much as we want, but we fight using logic instead of personal attacks. I have noticed a positive change in your posts and the posts of some other members, so I remain hopeful that you will gradually come to see the policy in a more positive light. If it seems like I am lecturing, I apologize. But it seems important to make it as clear as possible why we are trying to reduce the personal attacks.
  9. I am hoping for Worley. I think that he is going to be fun to watch.
  10. I agree. The harder question would be whether he would have made a different choice if a non-contender had offered $1 million more instead of $90 million more.
  11. This is a fun article. Question for the group: if the Twins could get one of these guys back for 1 year at his current salary, who would you select?
  12. It looks like Mauer, Morneau and Willingham all had good days at the plate today. That gives me some comfort, assuming that they can stay healthy. And Mastro was 2 for 3.
  13. Thanks for this interesting article.
  14. I wonder if the Twins will start him in AAA this year.
  15. Lots of runs in this game but it appears that they were mostly unearned. I am glad to see that the Twins have 15 hits so far.
  16. After reading the article, I really like Pelfrey's humble but confident attitude. It seems to me that if he can shake off the rust and throw in the mid-90's, he can be a solid starter. He might also be a good mentor for some of the younger pitchers.
  17. You make a good point. Part of his job is inspiring ticket sales, so he needs to be positive. But maybe he is hearing positive evaluations from the coaches and scouts about some of the younger players, and this is inspiring optimism.
  18. These posts are very funny. I would note that during that past week or so, there has been almost zero snarking and personal attacks on TD. People have been respecting the guidelines and I believe that this has made TD a funner place. As a moderator, I have had almost nothing to do, but as a fan, I have been enjoying the brilliant and insightful posts of our incredible members. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, along with your insight and humor. Twins fans are the best fans in the world and you people are the cream of the cream.
  19. Logic and experience are completely on your side, yet I am enjoying the fantasy that Rosario will be a fast mover like Mike Trout. And if Rosario hits well again tomorrow, then he will bring additional joy to my otherwise bleak life. So please continue to be gentle when introducing reality into these discussions.
  20. I feel the same way in my heart, but my brain tells me otherwise.
  21. Rosario continues to impress with his hitting!
  22. Thanks to those who have provided the additional details. They have enriched my morning.
  23. That is good news. Please note that some of us are relying on those of us who have radio access to provide such comforting details.
  24. Each of today's 3 outfielders has gotten a hit. That makes me happy.
