  1. Here is an article that says: Deolis Guerra was transferred to Tampa General Hospital today, in preparation for surgery to remove the first rib on his right side. That should give the artery more room, and the Twins hope will prevent further blood clots. No word yet on when the surgery will take place. I am not a doctor, but this sounds like it could be career ending. I hope for the best for him.
  2. Let's hope that they are being very conservative. But maybe this will give a young guy a chance to establish himself.
  3. The relievers were Josh Roenicke and Caleb Thielbar.
  4. This is good news and I am glad that I have bet the "over" in Vegas. If the Twins win more than 68 games, then I will win the bet.
  5. I am a big fan of Deduno and hope that he has found a way to decrease his walk rate. If that happens, he can be awesome. I am setting my DVR for Thursday's game!
  6. Thanks for posting this. Based on what you and jokin have posted, it looks like Marcum's incentives kick in sooner and more generous than Lannan's. Can we all at least agree that we would swap Correia and his contract for either Markum or Lannan and his contract even if all incentives are earned?
  7. What if the Twins eventually have Buxton in CF, Hicks in RF and Arcia in LF? If all three pan out, this could be one of the greatest outfields of all time.
  8. So based on that, would everyone agree that there is at least some merit to the position that Lannan and Marcum would probably be an upgrade even of they hit only half of the incentives, say roughly 175 innings and 2 starts? What jokin is saying makes sense to me, assuming that Correia is as bad as people are saying. On the other hand, I have high hopes for Worley as someone who could be very good for years to come if he can improve his "out" pitch. And Pelfry could turn out to be a big contributor for a year, a total bust or something in between. Only one thing seems certain -- we won't know which side was correct for at least another few months.
  9. I agree that eventually third base might be a good home for him, but it would be nice if the Twins had someone really good to take Joe's place at catcher. I suspect that they will want to keep him mainly at catcher until they have a better replacement than Doumit/Butera, or at least until one of the prospects proves himself.
  10. Can someone enlighten us as to exactly what incentives they have in their contracts?
  11. I wonder how much longer Joe will be effective as a catcher. Joe started in the minors in 2001, and he caught roughly 300 games in the minors. Joe has has caught in another 845 or so games in the majors. He is a big guy who has had to overcome a major knee injury. And his caught stealing percentage last year was only 14%. It seems to me that there is a significant probability that Joe may need to catch less in the future.
  12. I played an early version and it seemed like good reflexes were important, especially for batting and fielding. Is that still true? Can a good player with great reflexes take the Astros to the World Series and win?
  13. Interesting article -- thanks for posting it. I hope that he is correct about Sano coming up in 2014. On the other hand, I worry that the Twins may decide to move Sano to first base or right field and that this will delay his ascent to the majors.
  14. If TR believes that Sano is too big to play third base, I wonder what plan there may be to try him elsewhere. I would love to see him get a chance in right field.
  15. Let's hope that they can get that blood clot fixed ASAP -- not a good situation.
  16. Thanks for posting this. It makes me like Colabello even more.
  17. I am looking forward to those nuggets from TR!
  18. That would be a wonderful problem to have.
  19. I am sure hoping that Colabello gets a chance in the majors this year. What a great story!
  20. Great blog. I wonder what his save % against the Twins has been.
  21. Here is a link to an article (and linked slideshow) on Bleacher Report that analyzes the risks of injuries to particular Twins players this year. Interestingly, the article ranks the 2012 Twins 7th best of 30 teams in days on the disabled list and dollars lost. Here is an excerpt: "Despite having a much healthier season in 2012 than they had in either of the previous two years, the Minnesota Twins enter 2013 with a new head trainer despite the top-10 finish in injury stats. Dave Pruemer inherits a team whose best players may be his biggest challenges, but whose most problematic players from last season likely won’t end up on his table again this year." What do you think? Has the Twins training staff been doing a good/better job?
  22. This is tempting me to buy a PS3. I could then make a few key adjustments then migrate to a fantasy world where Plouffe is a 95 and Deduno is a 99.
  23. I wonder if there is any chance he could become a starter at some point.
  24. I needed a good smile -- thanks for this post.
  25. In light of the A's success relative to payroll, I suspect that maybe they have some secret formula that is giving them an edge.
