  1. The expansion Mariners went 21 innings in 1977. They won that third game 7-6 scoring 3 in the fourth.
  2. If you go back to last year the Twins have been shut out three times in a row. That happened in season once when they were shut out in three consecutive games in September of 1978. The pitchers did a little better though. Goltz, Serum and Erickson each threw a complete game and gave up 7 runs (5 earned) over the three shut out losses.
  3. Bauer's walk rate in the minors was 4.5. What are the Indians thinking? They need to send him back down to AAA to work on his command.
  4. Directv stopped the feed. I guess they assessed that the Twins can't comeback from this deficit.
  5. TD ranked Schafer ahead of Gose. Any chance the Tigers would swap centerfielders with us?
  6. One of the first things Molitor said was Santana is the SS. He may have been speaking for the front office, but not having him get anytime in CF this spring is a huge mistake.
  7. That is a different inning if the Twins had anyone that could play the outfield at the major league level.
  8. Molitor should have taken Schafer out on that first poor attempt and put in Robinson.
  9. The center fielder has to go get that ball. Schafer pulled up.
  10. A walk rate in the 9s won't work, but last year's walk rate was not unusual in AAA for a pitcher with good stuff. Other pitchers with high AAA/AA walk rates. Hernandez 4.9 Price 4.6 Lester 4.3 Samardzija 4.2 I don't know if he can pitch at the major league level. I just don't think he is going to get any closer to ready pitching in AAA. He was best the first half of last season and his efforts to bring down his walk rate have sent him in reverse. May and Meyer need to be in the rotation this year and the Twins need to assess whether they can grow into mid rotation starters. They already spent 100 million in search on the back end of the rotation.
  11. Meyer hit 101 on the gun today. There have been other pitchers who didn't reduce their walk rate until after they were in the majors. I don't think there is anything he is going to learn in AAA. When he throws it over the plate, AAA hitters don't put it in play enough. The twins are projected for around 70 wins. Seems like the perfect year to give him 25 starts and see if he can figure it out.
  12. Meyer has walked 5. Hit 101 on the gun. Buffalo can't hit him. They just wait out the walks. Major leaguers would put the ball in play in some of those at bats before the walk occurs.
  13. It wasn't a big pop up. He was stealing and it was a soft fly near 1B. It could have a hit and run but he had no chance.
  14. The Twins have plenty of guys that can hit lefties. No need for Hicks.
  15. Hicks batting lead off walked and scored. Pinto has thrown out a runner and made a nice play on a bunt. Peterson has 3 RBIs. Pinto walked and scored on Brock's HR Meyer gave up a run in the third. Ball off the glove of Diaz allowed run to score.45 pitches through 3 innings
  16. In Rochester... Hicks made a great catch and scored a run Pinto has thrown out a runner. Meyer has two scoreless innings (two walks) 1-0 Rochester in the third
  17. There is no way Nolasco is making it up. He worked hard this winter to get in shape ready to play. I don't think anyone here believes it. A few just want to joke and at the same time disrespect the player. These men deserve better.
  18. Nolasco will probably make the next start when the MRI shows nothing. May is scheduled to start on Saturday. If he makes that start, Wheeler and Hamburger are the next two scheduled starters. If Nolasco is indeed out, the Twins could bring up May and start him on Saturday pushing back Milone and Pelfrey.
  19. Oravetz returned to the Twins organization after playing for the Senators and Mets organizations in 1962. At 5'4" and 145 it must have been a continual battle to remain a professional ball player.
  20. Tigers willing to call up young relievers with little experience. Wish the Twins would do the same.
  21. Schafer's reputation of being a poor defensive CF from Houston and Atlanta is on display today. His tools have won him an opening day start four times in his career. His performance is why he has been DFA'd twice.
  22. Nolasco was in 2014 form today. How many more starts? 7? 15? 90?
  23. Reading the article on the first big Twin trade, helped me recall the first three Minnesota Twin trades that were minor on the field yet involving three legends. Ernie Oravetz was traded for Ed Palmquist and Joe Altobelli. All three were career minor leaguers and Palmquist and Altobelli did play some for the Twins after they acquired them. Altobelli managed in the major leagues for the Giants, Orioles and Cubs. He won a World Series for the Orioles. People in Rochester know him as Mr. Baseball. Following his season with the Twins he played in Rochester in 1962. He has also served as coach, manager, general manager and broadcaster. http://m.milb.com/ne...14090192377228/ The franchises second trade also involved a World Series winning manager. The Twins traded Billy Consolo for Billy Martin. Martin retired from baseball after 1961 and stayed in the organization as a scout, third base coach, AAA manager and finally manager in 1969. He was part of the Twins first two playoff teams in 1965 and 1969. I believe the stretch from 1961-69 was his longest continual stretch with any organization. It lasted until he knocked out Dave Boswell with punches in the alley behind the Lindell A.C. bar. On the same day as the Martin trade, the Twins traded Paul Giel and Reno Bertoia for Bill Tuttle and a player to be named later. Nine days later the player to be named later was one of the original players in the trade - Paul Giel. Paul did not want to leave Minnesota and after one start with his new club he retired from baseball. Giel, born in Winona, was a football and baseball star for the Gophers in the early 50s and runner up for the Heisman in 1953. After his return to the Twins and retirement, he was the Vikings announcer from 1962-1969 and University of Minnesota Athletic Director from 1971-1989. The Twins didn't see much on the playing field from Altobelli, Martin and Giel but all three stepped out into significant careers following their last games as a major leaguer and Twin in 1961.
