  1. Or confusing the qualifying offer system to the old system with type A and type B free agents. Under that system, players could decline arbitration offers, and the team would get draft compensation, but this system has been replaced with the qualifying offer. That system still wouldn't have applied to Fien though, as the service time requirements did not change.
  2. This doesn't have anything to do with the qualifying offer. That is only for players that are pending free agents (minimum of 6 years of service time). Tendering a contract just means that the player will receive a contract from the team that owns his rights (under 6 years of service time). There does not need to be an actual dollar amount at that time. The team and the player can negotiate a salary. This will lead to the beginning of the arbitration process. They can negotiate up until an arbitrator makes a salary ruling, which would be binding. So, tendering a contract is the start of the process.
  3. He was offered a contract. If they can't reach an agreement, then it will go to arbitration, where the Twins and Fien will both submit an offer, and a neutral arbitrator will decide who's salary number is more accurate based on Fien's previous performance. Whatever number the arbitrator picks will be Fien's salary for the year, and he cannot reject it and become a free agent.
  4. The Korean team didn't have to let him leave. They could have just kept him if they wanted, and he wouldn't get his chance to play in the MLB until next year. So, they're actually doing Park a favor by getting him paid more than he would have made in the KBO.
  5. I am excited about this deal. Congrats to everyone involved. I'm excited to see Park blasting HRs out of Target Field in 2016.
  6. It would depend on how his showcase goes in January. If he's recovered from his hip surgery, and that helps him bring his velocity back up on his fastball, then maybe. I would expect that if his velocity is better than the 88mph he was throwing last year, then someone would give him a one year deal as a starter. If his FB velocity is 88 or lower, then I would have to say the Twins should pass.
  7. Great article. I have heard some people make this comparison on the radio, which has always seemed silly to me. TR even said something like "this is just like Nishioka" in a press-conference, but I'm pretty sure he was only saying that in reference to negotiating a contract and timelines. Also, slight nit to pick: Rob Refsnyder was born in South Korea, yes... but he was adopted when he was 5-months old and lived in California after that. I'm not sure he's worth mentioning as a comparison. And, I know Hyun-Jin Ryu is a pitcher, but he also played in the KBO and has been able transfer his skills to the MLB. Just a thought.
  8. That was a nice looking HR. I thought the announcer was mistaken at first when he listed the score though. A three-run homer to bring the Aces within twelve. Ouch. Good hit though.
  9. Congrats to Torii on a great career. I have many wonderful memories of him playing with the Twins. I'm sure that he'll go down in Twins history being considered a great player who played the game the right way and was a positive influence on all those around him. Thanks for the memories, Torii. Good luck in retirement.
  10. I just wanted to further add to the discussion. I probably wouldn't have thought about all that if I hadn't read your post. Good teamwork. Go Twins!
  11. Just a little thing to add to your points: 1). The Rangers have indeed clinched a playoff spot, but if they were to lose out they may not win their division. They need one more win or a Houston loss to claim their division. So, the Rangers are playing to ensure that they don't end up playing a 1 game playoff. 2). Houston is playing Arizona... in Arizona. So, no DH. Also, Houston is 31-47 so far on the road this year. Arizona also has a shot to finish the season at .500, which I'm sure they're going to try for. 3). Unfortunately, the Royals have a chance to get the best record in the American league and secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Just some things to consider. No team is really going to roll over, even if they're already in the playoffs or already out. So, who knows, but it should be an exciting weekend in baseball.
  12. I'm going to the game tonight. Going to pick up my zubaz* and my stocking hat and cheer my butt off. This should be a fun game. *Zubaz will not be worn outside of the privacy of my own home.
  13. Also, attaching photos from your phone while drinking can be a difficult task.
  14. Just want to give everyone an update from my perspective.
  15. Ok. Time to spend the rest of my Friday playing video games and drinking whiskey.
  16. This is the best idea I've heard in a very long time.

  19. Gotta love how you can count on the sox to kick the ball around once or twice a game.
  20. Also with heart and grit... with a side of battling their tails off.
  21. Bark, someday will you a picture of a raccoon trash can band? I will leave it up to you to interpret what that means.
  22. I think Sano and Rosario decided to have a contest to see who could have the taller pop up. I would have told them to not have that contest.
