  1. Vargas was suspended 50 games for violating the MiLB drug policy after testing positive for phentermine, which can be used to help with weight loss. He missed the final 18 games of 2011 and the suspension carried over into 2012. That's why his "games played" stat looks low.
  2. I think this was a very good assessment. I think you're probably right about all of this. I'm hoping that the Twins will go against their old ways and sign some decent starting pitching, but it is really hard to believe that they will actually do this. Good post.
  3. Kenny Williams.... ...wait.... no, not him.
  4. I really like this idea as a way to compare darftees. Everyone's prospect lists usually end up pretty similar, so it's nice to see the names by production as well. Please keep this going.
  5. Nicely put. I would disagree with a few points. I don't think that because we didn't trade Kubel, Cuddy or Joe Nathan last year doesn't mean we won't make moves this year. Those were Bill Smith decisions, not Terry Ryan decisions. I think Smith must have taken enough criticism from the media for the Capps/Ramos trade the year before that it made him unwilling to do anything. At the same time, the Twins were on a winning streak before the deadline and he probably honestly thought that the team was back in contention. He was definitely wrong. But losing those three guys did strengthen the organization through extra draft picks. These are probably all points of a 1%'er though. I think my long rant provided more proof of the type of people that read and post on this site.
  6. It sounds like Appel is looking for cash, and Gausman wants to leave his mark on his college. I guess I can't blame Gausman for that part. You forgot to mention that even with the 6th worst record, the Twins would be picking 7th in draft as Baltimore would get a compensation pick immediately after the pick they lost (I assume that is still the case in the top 10 picks, but they are protected, so I'm not really sure how that works). Next year's draft class is supposed to be much deeper, so even if the Twins don't end up with either of these guys, they very well could end up with someone of a similar caliber. But who knows, they could both go back to college and wear down their arms so much that they end up being useless.
  7. He would say that or "heck". Good post Bark.
  8. Well said. I do enjoy the stats, but I'm a science type and that's part of the way my brain works. But, the numbers don't mean anything at all without the emotion that the game of baseball inspires. Thanks for the post.
  9. Good post. He definitely would be an unconventional ace. You're right, this would be a lot to ask of him, but I can hope he keeps this up.
  10. I would think that you would want to flip Hicks and Revere. Revere would make a much better LF with his arm. Hicks has a good arm already, so RF would not be bad for him. That outfield sure would cover a lot of ground though.
  11. Good stuff. And you signed draftee list is way more complete than BA. Keep up the good work.
  12. Interesting idea. I like it. This is the perfect time to try something new.
  13. Thanks for the write ups! I love hearing about what's going on down on the farm.
  14. Great story. I'm interested in seeing what happens with this. It should be a very interesting off season.
  15. Whenever I have seen your stuff, I have enjoyed it. It seems like it is pretty tough to stay on the front page here. Sorry to see you go.
  16. Fire the GM less than 20 games into the season before we've even played a team in our own division, huh? That seems... reasonable? I'm hoping the sarcasm came through. I think this post falls into the "knee-jerk reaction" category. If they lose 100 games again, sure. That's a different scenario. I think it's a little too early to start re[placing everyone in the front office, especially if they haven't really had a chance to undo the damage done by the previous guy.
