  1. I'm now listening. I forgot it was an early game today. Glad to see the Royals taking the lead at this point. And that Delmon Young just hit into his second double play today.
  2. My Untappd name is JamesZoss. Also, very similar to my real name.
  3. I love Bender. I named my cat Bender (only partially for the beer). I like Tin Whiskers beer. Pretty good overall. Their stout is pretty good.
  4. It's all from an app called "Untappd" used to track and rate beers. It's fantastic. https://untappd.com/ I'm at 635 unique check-ins at the moment, since Nov 22, 2012. So, I'm doing some damage. The only beer that I tend to check in more than once is good old Grainbelt. Which is my favorite cheap beer. If you're looking for another good beer store, The Ale Jail in St. Paul has some great stuff. I tend to go to Stinson Wine, Beer and Spirits. I know they list wine first, but beer is their priority.
  5. I'm not pulling my hair out either. It seems to have no problem falling out of my head all by its own. I don't need to help it out by pulling it out.
  6. These are the problems that I love to have. I think you have to go with Santana at SS. I have to preface this with the fact that I love Escobar. I love him as a utility man though. I know Santana isn't the best at SS yet. But he's young, and he's not going to get any better at SS by playing in CF. If you think Santana is your SS of the future, the answer to this problem is easy... play Santana at short. Keep Escobar as your utility infielder.
  7. The Salt River Rafters are managed by Andy Haines (Manager of Miami's AAA affiliate). http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/afl/club.jsp?team_id=527
  8. I didn't realize you were a fan of the exploits of the Tanner family. I'm just glad that they're interviewing a ton of candidates. The more candidates that they actually interview, the more it shows me that they didn't already decide on a replacement for Gardy before he was removed as manager, and that interviewing outside candidates is not just a show to appease fans.
  9. I like Plouffe at 3b. I do. I have no idea how Sano's defense at 3b is. From what I hear, it's not bad, but not great. I'm pretty torn on this move though. I think Sano would be more valuable at 3b, and it would leave room open for Rosario, Kepler, Harrison or Walker to play out there in the future. Obviously, those guys are all a ways a way, if they ever get here. It'll make things interesting. That all being said, having too much talent at a position is not a bad problem to have. We'll just have to see how this goes. Maybe Sano turns into a very good outfielder... maybe he's better suited for 3b. Only time will really tell. I'm all for whatever gets Sano up and playing for the Twins as soon as possible.
  10. So, I do have cable, so I've been able to watch the games, which is great for me. Even though I do have cable, I 100% agree with the sentiment here. Especially due to the fact that all the sports "talking heads" keep trying to explain that baseball is dying. It seems to me that the chose short-term revenue over the overall health of the sport. I'm sure that network stations would love to be showing baseball games, especially in the post-season. I guess this is another thing that we can blame on the Yankees (I'm pretty sure YES network was the first cable station partially owned by a team). I could be wrong, but it's fun to blame the Yankees anyway.
  11. I'm definitely cheering for the Royals this offseason. I've been watching the playoff games, and they are certainly an exciting team to watch. It's really hard to believe that this is a team that lost 90 games as recently as 2012. Kind of gives you hope.
  12. From the radio interview on ESPN 1500 with Mientkiewicz, it sounds like he is probably moving up to Chattanooga. At least, that's kind of what Dougie B kind of hinted at. I'd probably be ok if it ended up being Molitor, but at least interview some outside candidates. I think they will though.
  13. We pay him $23M a year to be a singles hitter! He's sooooo overrated and is always hurt! He's the worst thing to ever happen to the team!!! Other arguments that I can't back up with evidence! Rabble, Rabble, Rabble. Ok. I hope the sarcasm came through. To be fair, I didn't read the article, mainly because I didn't want to give him any page views for it. But the description and ideas presented in this thread already tell me that these are opinions that are not based in reality or fact. Therefore, I will avoid reading it and quietly dismiss it.
  14. Part of the criticism came from the timing. The Royals got Shields and Davis immediately after the 2012 season when they had just lost 90 games. They also had been bad for a long time, so the idea that they these two guys could push them over the edge seemed kind of odd. The A's, on the other hand, knew that their pitching wasn't the strongest, but were in the middle of a season where they had the best record in the American league. The idea of giving up a prospect to win that season wasn't a preposterous idea. It was simply giving up a good prospect to get players that could help you win right now, when you had a track record of winning. They are difficult trades to compare.
  15. OK. I had a whole message written but it failed to post. so, I'll summarize. I think the argument of "The Pohlads treat the Twins like a business" is fundamentally flawed. This is the main reason: MLB teams are, in fact, businesses. Why would the owners treat them as anything other than that. But, that doesn't mean that the Pohlads don't want to win. In fact, if the argument if you are convinced that they only care about money, they should, in fact, want to ensure that they have a winning team every year. Why, because winning teams draw more fans to the ballpark (except for possibly in Tampa). If all they cared about was the money, they would ensure they put a team on the field that filled every seat of Target Field. If you truly believe that the Pohlads run their business any differently than every other owner, please show me evidence of how. Because this argument contradicts itself.
  16. Good luck, and wishing him a speedy and full recovery.
  17. I'm sorry to see him go, and I thank him for what he has done with the organization. But I also agree that it is time to go a new direction. This wasn't a decision about next year, but rather for the future of the club beyond 2015. I wish Gardy the best of luck in any future endeavors.
  18. Burton's pitching, huh? This should be interesting.
  19. BAM! Three pages... right?
  20. I'm going to propagate the idea (correctly or incorrectly) that the Pohlads are cheap and they are calling the dugout/clubhouse now telling Gardy not to let Hughes go back out there.
  21. They might just call this game... due to the fact that both teams don't care that much. nothing to do with the rain.
  22. Ooh. That replay of Plouffe... I don't think he'll be back for a while. Update: Fractured left forearm. He's officially done for the year.
  23. Late to the game. Sounds like the D-backs are already on pitcher #2.
  24. I have been buying season tickets with a group for the last 5 years. I'm pretty sure that this year has been the last. Of the group, all but two of us have decided that they don't want to buy in again. So, it seems like time as a season ticket holder has come to an end. It has been tougher and tougher to find people to go with me to games. For the past two years, I haven't been able to find anyone that has been willing to pay full price for the seats (which are very similar to the seats that Nick described). I have been trading the seats for a few beers each game. That's pretty much the only way that I've been able to get people to go to the games with me (and I usually have 4 tickets to games). I will probably still attend 10-15 games per year, but I can't see those tickets coming from splitting season tickets. This article is very accurate, the Twins are in trouble. I have a hard time seeing companies like Budweiser and Delta pulling their sponsorship. It is the smaller companies that need to ensure that their marketing dollars are used in the most effective manner that will be leaving as their exposure will be dwindling. As for options to fix the issue, that is a more complicated issue. It's likely that there is no one solution. It is going to take a few things to turn this ship around.
